I find it difficult to convince myself to have a weekly rest day. My definition of a rest day is a light walk, no workouts. I know I feel stronger after a rest day but it's tough sometimes....I'm just hooked on those workout endorphins.

I voted other. I don't take rest days unless I'm sick, family obligations, vacation, holidays, etc., but that doesn't mean that I don't believe in them! I probably end up taking about 5 full days off a year.

I make sure I rest once a week. I used to go until my body yelled at me to stop, but I found I can workout harder, more consistantly if I take rest days once a week.

I voted other because it varies. If I do an intense cardio or strength rotation, I will take two days off to let my muscles heal and my heart rest. If I do a moderate rotation then I will only need one.

I have been doing 6 days on/1 day off for as long as I can remember now unless something comes up and I have to change it...

I just started a brand new rotation this week though and it's different from anything I have ever done before so I am considering doing 6 days on/2 days off to give my body more time to recup in between. :)

I never did before my baby but now I give myself permission to take one rest day a week. I used to feel guilty but now there's times when I just don't have the time or energy to get in a workout so I forgive myself and hit it hard the next day.

I took one yesterday....and I think another one this year....no wonder I am tired....http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/l0/sleepzz.gif[/img]...Carole

I take all the rest days I want. I have a low boredom threshold. I love to read, browse book stores and drink coffee. So, sometimes, the reading and browsing wins out!

I have times when I am gung-ho and must work out a lot, and other times when 3 or 4 days per week is plenty enough for me.

I find life is way too busy to go through all the angst that comes with having a mindset that says that "I must workout 6 days per week to be healthy and fit." It causes me too much anxiety struggling to mnake it happen or from feeling guilty when I "fail" to live up to the goal. So, I ask myself, whose goal is this? It generally belongs to the people of the Cathe forums and not me personally. So, I am giving it up and working out purely from the pleasure of movement, as much or as little as I want.

Suffering from mental ill-health as I do, I achieve greater inner tranquility this way.

And I can power-walk 6 miles in 60 minutes, so one of my goals is met and I'm happy!

Clare, this is exactly the mindset I am trying to achieve both with eating and exercise. And, what you said about "whose goal is this.....," well, I have had the same experience since I started visiting the Cathe boards. Many of the women here are devoted to their fitness in a way that costs me too much, mentally and emotionally. Like you, I have to remember my own goals!!

I generally rest one to two days a week, with one day being entirely off and the other involving a walk.

I usually take two rest days per week. Twice a week, however, I double up by working out in the a.m. and then again during lunch at my gym,so I pretty much get 7 workouts in a 7 day period. On workdays, I workout out at 4:30 a.m., but I can usually only do that three times, or I'm good for nothing by the end of the week.

Long story short, yeah I take rest days.

ahh Clare. Always a ray of sunshine. Doesn't seem like the forums are "bad" enough for your health to keep you at bay. I happen to think this is a wonderful, motivation group who have done some amazing things with their health.

I find my results are SO MUCH better when I take a rest day once a week.

Depends on your goal but for building muscle tone the day off makes a huge difference for me :)
