How many days a week do you exercise?

Just curious. I notice in the rotation for this month Cathe has 7 days a week. Granted one of them is a Yoga Day. I often am able to complete 4 days before I mentally hit a wall, but would like to get myself up to 7 days a week.

If you workout 6 or 7 days a week, what type of workouts do you do and how did you get yourself to that level?

jen:

I'm with you. I do about 4 workouts per week because I always hit that wall mentally. More than 4 days with exercise per week does not suit my personality. I love working out but it is because I do not do it 6 or 7 times per week and because I don't force myself to do it that I am bursting with motivation and have no dread about it on the 4 days per week that I do work out.

Since I only work out 4 times per week, I make sure that it counts. I go for it, no half arsed measures. I go full throttle and every workout is around the 2-2 1/2 hours long mark as I tend to go for the cardio plus weights options, the longer premixes on any instrutor's DVD.

When I am in the mood to work out, then I am really in the mood. When I am not, I don't. End of story.

I know that there are guidelines for how many minutes per week we are supposed to exercise for and I know that some experts recommend a little every day rather than fewer giant sessions. But here's the thing: you have to do what works for you, your timetable, your family and other commitments and for your personality.

Whatever helps you stick with the program: that's what you do.

6x week. Each day an hour of cardio and an hour of resistance - but not at the same time. And always at different intensities and varied weights. Not every day is SS cardio. Not every day is heavy weights. But you have to do what works for YOU.

I workout 6 days a week, 3 days weights, 3 days cardio. My day 6 is Saturdays so I don't stress over it if I can't get that day in, if my family has weekend plans or something. But, most Saturday's I do get the cardio in. I agree w/ Maddiesmum, you have to do what works for you. If you can work it out w/ your schedule and if you are up to it, you may try 6 days and see how that goes. But, whew....7 days would be tough for me. I enjoy my rest day too much :D

I get in 5-6 days per week, most of my workouts are about an hour. Right now, I'm relying heavily on kettlebells, kickboxing and boxing dvds. I rest on days when I feel really wiped out, like today. Generally I tend to go for 4 days then take the fifth off. I never schedule a day off because I'm certain there will be at least one day during the week I either feel low on energy, or there is something going on that prevents me from working out.

I also look at my workouts on a larger scale than one week, it seems like every fifth day off is the perfect amount of rest for me. There are also stretches where I go 8-10 days in a row, then end up taking 2 days off in a shorter time frame.

Let's see, a typical week for me consists of at least 4 (hour long) cardio sessions and 3 (hour long) heavy weight workouts. I teach Pilates and Yoga so I get the stretching in on those days as well. 2 days a week I do both cardio and weights so I can get a rest day in. Every 5 weeks or so I do a "recovery week" consisting of easier cardio and a lot of yoga. I also listen to my body and if I feel exhausted I will usually lighten up on the type of workout I do, but I am happiest releasing those happy endorphins- it's a great stress buster!!

I typically workout 5-6 days a week because I need to have a rest day. I will do an hour each day but alternate between cardio and weights. One day cardio, one day weights and so on.

For example my workout today was spending 4 hours at St. Mary's Food Bank for a team builder and let me tell you I'm feeling it. So I didn't do 4DS kickbox today.

I do agree with the other ladies and doing what is best for you :)

I work out 7 days a week, including one Yoga-only day. I do cardio the other 6 days, alternating between high intensity and moderate, and weight-training 3 days. When I'm doing Cathe workouts I do mostly pre-mixes because I can't spare more than 1 hour to work out most days (so more or less 30 minutes cardio, 30 minutes weights - the 4DS workouts are great for this). Right now I'm doing Turbo Fire which meets my needs quite well.

I usually work out 6 times per week, with my rest day being house cleaning day... But, if I'm really tired, I listen to my body & take a break. I alternate cardio days with weight days. I sit all day at my job, & I work out after work - helps loads with stress relief!

I work out 6 days a week doing ever changing rotations that incorporate different amounts of cardio and weights at different levels of intensity. I can work out for 15 minutes one day and 90 mins the next! It's always changing! If I start to feel really beat up I will take my rest day early or take 2 in a week. I've tried to work out 7 days a week only taking rest days when "life gets in the way" but it didn't work for me. I got a severe sinus infection (first and only one in my life!) and struggled for the next to weeks to work out AT ALL! Never again will I do that. Sometimes I push past 6 days but always take a rest day at some point every single week.

I tend to work out 6-7 days a week. I never plan a rest day and just take it when i need it. Currently i am doing sts 6 x a week (meso 1) as my weights and trying to get in 4 cardios (1-2 hour sesisons and 2-3 30-45 min) ones. I also try to get in abs 4-5x a week (but thats only 15 min usually).

This is what i have started doing and what i was doing before my 4 week (p90x and gs) summer break (just doing travel fit and 1 hiit a week). I am also trying to drop 5lbs.

This might change when i head back to work. My job (PE techer) is physical and i might take it down a notch :D

I workout 6 days a week. I do a variety of workouts from running to kettlebells to Crossfit type workouts. I usually run 2-3 days a week with a long run 8+ miles on Sunday. I don't plan rest days but take it as I need it. Sometimes I will take 2 rest days a week. Most of my workouts include some form of strength training as well as cardio except for my long run day which is just cardio.

Lately I have been working out 6 days a week and loving it. I used to do 5 days. My trick is I really don't schedule a rest day. Life usually forces me to take a rest day because of busy schedule, and if I've already taken a scheduled rest day, that makes me feel guilty. (stupid but true) My schedule currently:
Monday p.m. - ballet (intermediate/advanced class)
Tuesday- weights or circuit Cathe dvd
Wednesday-cardio workout with trainer
Thursday- Cathe cardio dvd
Friday-weights with trainer
Saturday-killer plyometrics class at gym
Sunday-ideally a rest day..

The thing that has made it easier for me to train more frequently was getting my trainer and a new training buddy. It made working out more fun...

Thanks for all the responses. I exercise most mornings before work 5:30 am or there about. I aim for 30-60 minutes on workdays and an hour on non work days. I'm pretty consistent with four days but really want to break the mental wall and get to five or six days.

I think your body will let you know when you're ready to up the number of days. Maybe you could tell yourself you're just going to try an extra day one week & give yourself some type of reward for doing the extra day. Then it would be associated with something positive.

I don't think it's my body as much as my brain. I tend to procrastinate getting up in the morning until the last possible moment and then my workout doesn't happen. And on workdays if I don't do it before work I won't come home and do it. But I'm going to give myself a challenge to add one more day for the next month. Once I'm consistent for a month I will reward myself.

I'm anywhere from 4-6. Right now I'm trying to get my running mileage back up after slacking after a half marathon. Plus I've been skimping on weights. I've started aiming for 6 days - 4 days of running and I just started 2 days of STS Meso 1 upper body(I'm actually doing Tonique for lower body - it's needed for my running). This is my first week of really shooting for 6. I prefer to do Mon - Sat., reserving Sunday for a rest day. But this week is already screwed up. Took the kids to the Nature Center yesterday and was too tired to run after. Right now I'm planning to do Sunday long run to make up for it.

Glad to hear others talk about the mental block. I've had something for years I call the "4 day curse." I can do M, Tu, W and come Thursday I just can't!!! Which is what happened again this week. Maybe my body is telling me day 4 is just my natural recovery/rest day and not a cure! hmmmm .... just thought of that!

My day is almost always day 5. I tend to feel tired and just can't even get into my workout clothes on the fifth day, and have taken it as a sign that, that will be my rest day. But I'm always pretty re-energized on day 6 and ready to go.
