How long should my barbell be?

I am looking to purchase a barbell and I'm not sure what the best length is. The majority of the ones I have seen are 5 or 6 feet long. I am just under 5 foot 2 and I wonder if such a long barbell would be a bit hard to balance. Should I keep looking until I find one that is only 4 feet long or will I be ok with the 5 or 6?

Thanks,

Ady

If you can get a "Troy Lite" (Cathe uses them in some of her videos) that would be perfect for you. I found one online, it was not too bad $ including shipping. I was absolutely unable to find one locally, and I live in a major city. They are about 4 feet I think. I find this perfect for home workouts, the longer ones are tough to maneuver in the bedroom I workout in, even 5 feet, IMHO.

Troy Lite only weighs 5 lbs itself. That makes it easy to stash in the closet, etc. Then you can buy the plates at any sporting goods or used sport goods place locally (1" hole).
