How high do ppl go on barbell?

The most I have used is 45# so far. There are many here that go much higher than that, I think. Some have previously posted that they use weighted vests so they can squat heavier without having to lift more over their heads.

before i hurt my knees i was 40-45 pounds on squats/plies/deadlifts and about 30pounds for lunges. i havent done much barbbell work for legs in about 2-3 weeks but the most was about 30 pounds for squats and 20 for lunges. i believe the last workout i did that used barbbell weights for leg work was pyramid lower body.

I have gone higher, but I now limit myself to 45# on the barbell when I have to heft it onto my shoulders (I add up to 20# additional pounds using a weight vest). My shoulders--the limiting factors-- thank me for it!

If I want to go heavier than 65# total, I'll use my Soloflex Rockit, a squat/leg press machine that I've done up to 210# on (but it's been gathering dust for a while, because I've been doing more endurance lower body work)

When doing deadlifts, I have gone up to 65#.

I go up to two 25lb (50lbs total) dumbells for squats or plies without a spotter or rack available.

It all depends on the workout. For PLB and S&H Legs, I use 60#s for the squats. But for LL or ME, I use only 40#. I personally think the squat segments of PH and SJ&P are very challenging and as my lower back tends to fatigue before my legs to - I sometimes use only 35# for those.

I don't own a weight vest and I probably should as I've probably been doing things a bit too easy for a bit too long.

100lbs barbell and a 40lb wt vest for all leg exercises except dlifts(no vest) and leg press. But rarely lift heavy for legs I tend to stay with my endurance set barbell at 58lbs(need to move it up today to 63lbs)Lunge (endurance)wt varies from 38-58 depending on reps leg press 38-58 also.

Hey Sheila, just popped in to tip my hat to you and say that those are some impressive weights Girl!!!! I know it's not all about the numbers but it's great to have an idea what others are lifting to stay challenged and what is a realistic goal for weight increases:) Man, I got get me one of those weight vests and a squat bar!!!}(

The maximum I can lift over my head without assistance is 55lbs. I too, need to purchase a wieghted vest.

Shelia, my hat is off to you, and my skull gleams for you. That's what I call gettin' your barbell freak on.

I don't hoist any more than 50 lbs over my head. I can do 55, but it makes me nervous and is not the point of the workout.

I wear a vest with up to 25 lbs though, so the heaviest weight I use is 75 pounds. That's what I use for PS Legs, and Slow and Heavy legs. I also sometimes set the barbell itself up to 75 pounds for the deadlifts in S/H Back. My problem then is holding onto it. My grip gets pretty tired!

Blushing.....Thanks guys it has taken years for me to work up to my wts 14years(long time)I started with 3lbs then.I have been stuck at 100 for awhile-since I don't lift heavy often but did up my endurance bb to 64lb yesterday for power circuit.

I tried 55lb the other day with PLB and it was very hard!! My DH was in the other room and kept coming out to see why I was making the noises I was making... LOL most of them came from the effort of getting that thing over my head!!! (I wonder if that part gets easier?) I did deadlifts and my forearms were so tired I almost dropped the bar.

But, I got DOMS in my legs for the first time in a while! :D

>100lbs barbell and a 40lb wt vest for all leg exercises
>except dlifts(no vest) and leg press.

You hoist a 100# barbell on your shoulders without a squat rack or a spotter? Yikes! I'm impressed. You must have some very strong shoulders!

yes I do.I wish I had a squat rack or a spoter(that last one might get on my nerves as I like to be to myself during wt training).my shoulders are pretty strong I use 80lbs for overhead press for 4 reps and then 3-3 when I do my"super heavy" workout of a max of 5 reps when I do over 5 I up the wt.Right now I am on a mixed rep so for overhead press I'll do 2sets with 80lb and then switch to 60lbs to get in 8-9 reps.I just started this and was quiet sore for the first couple of workouts.my shoulders have always been one of my stronger bodyparts.

I'm in the range of 50-55# max weight on the barbell and only go to 55# if my tetchy right wrist and left elbow are feeling very healthy.

My 40# weighted vest was a great investment to work my legs without overstraining my upper body.

>yes I do.I wish I had a squat rack or a spotter

Do you actually lift the bar off the ground, the way Cathe does? I just can't get over someone being able to do this with 100#! (Where is the "I am in awe" smilie?)

The heaviest I go on a Cathe workout is #65 for squats. I can go quite heavier than that using a rack. However without one I feel the risk of injury is too great to go heavier.
