How do you tell the difference???

Hi Wendy! Well, you know I was on the RT, too, and you also probably could tell I'm not as fit as you. I gave myself permission to take this whole week off. I have been exhausted--not so much the workouts, though 3 Cathe workouts in one day was a lot for me, but from the combo of the workouts, not enough sleep, and tons of personal interaction (I am an introvert--believe-it-or-not--so I need to re-energize with alone time afterward). I figured rather than wearing myself out this week, I will start fresh next week.

I also like what Christine said about those days you aren't sure if you need a rest or you're just feeling lazy--I definitely pull out one of my favorites and see how I feel after the warmup.

Hey Lanie.

Glad that you are listening to your body and resting up this week if that's what you need. I have never ever taken a rest week. I just can't. LOL I would go outta my gourd if I tried I think-no matter how tired I am! I wish I could as it would probably be good for me but I don't see it happening any time too soon. LOL

You are right on the RT. It was certainly exhausting but ITA that it came from sooo much more then just the work outs! The exhausted feeling from the RT is distinctly different from what I felt y'day or any other day when I consider resting at the last minute or have to PUSH myself to get a work out done. The RT exhaustion was a "happier" tired. I didn't mind working out through that kind of tired. I didn't end up dreading ANY of the classes like I thought I would. It was sooo cool! :)

For me, I can tell its time to take some time off when my limbs feel "heavy" and I have no energy. Also, my performance starts to plateau or worsen. ( ie I can't lift as heavy or run as fast).

I've committed to taking 2 rest weeks off per year and I've actually got one coming up the week after Labor Day. Mentally, I hate it, but I'm going to try to keep busy doing some projects around the house and activities that aren't part of my usual work/family/leisure routines.

As with my previous rest weeks, I ALWAYS come back stronger, faster, and much more focused.

Take care, Lynn M.

If I feel super tired, I'll just go back to sleep. Luckily, with training so many of my other clients, I haven't been working nearly as long so I know I'm not overtrained. If my schedule is completely hectic with appointments that would conflict with my full-time job, I'll schedule that as a rest day. However, for me, a rest day might be Bryan Kest/Mark Blanchard yoga or steady state on a machine or even only 30 minutes of easy cardio.

I just really listen to my body. I used to plan EVERYTHING out--sets, reps, weight, cardio. Now I just listen to my body and try to hit each body part once a week.
