How do you fit yoga into your rotation?

For those of you who primarily workout with Cathe and also do yoga, how do you fit yoga into your rotation? I desperately want to add yoga to my routine, but I just haven't been able to find the time. I like to do cardio three days a week and weights three days a week. If I take a rest day, I'm out of days.

This week I'm trying to combine cardio and two or three body parts in one day. I'm hoping that leaves a day for yoga, we'll see. The only other thing I can think of is on weekends to try to tack on some yoga after my regularly scheduled workout. It's tough to find 90 to 120 minutes in a row to workout however.

How do you guys do it?
Thanks,
Shelbygirl

Well, I tried yoga for a time. When I did, I put it on my rest day and considered it an "active rest day," sort of like taking a walk. Depending on the type of yoga you do, I think that would be fine.

Hello, I do my yoga in the morning before work and then i do the rest of my routine when im off, this really works for me and then i can always have time for everything i want to do. :)

I do one yga session on my "rest day". Then, I try to squeeze in two more sessions on the days when I run at night (with a large group). I'll do the yoga in the morning, then run at night. The a.m. yoga helps my muscles get nice and stretched out and my runs go better that evening since I am nice and loose.

You could do it on your rest day and add some on your cardio days. It is also nice to do the yoga in the evening since it is so relaxing...even the ashtunga or power yoga...at least I find it relaxing.

I've just recently been doing Yoga ( maybe a month now ) and I just had a friend make up a rotation for me. I am doing my cardio with my treadmill which is a 40 minute programmed routine so then after that I have time for a shorter Yoga workout, I think this will work for me for now. Good Luck! It is hard to squeeze in. Have you had good results with Yoga ?

This is a challenge for me too. I've found that squeezing in a 20 to 40 minute (depending on how long the weight workout is) yoga routine right before a weight workout works for me. I don't have to add any extra days and I really enjoy yoga so I don't think of it as an extra workout. It's just some extra stretching before the really hard work begins even though some yoga poses are a workout by themselves ;-).

My current rotation is based on Slow & Heavy, but includes 2 days of cardio, and 2 days of yoga:

Monday -- Spinning class, SH chest
Tuesday -- SH back, yoga
Wednesday -- Butts & Gutts (sub. for SH legs/abs)
Thursday -- SH biceps/triceps
Friday -- Spinning class
Saturday -- SH shoulers, yoga

I'm fairly new to yoga, but I'm finding I love it. I take a Fitness Yoga class at the gym. It's fantastic. :)

Best wishes,

i try to do anywhere from 20 mins to an hour of yoga before bed after getting viola to bed. sometimes that is hard so i will do as many sun salutation rounds as i am up to or have time for just say i did something.

on an email group, one gal used 10-30 mins of yoga as a warm up for her weight workouts. she couldn't handle doing anymore then 30 mins but said she found yoga to be a good waker upper as well as good for warming the body up. just an idea, i haven't tried this myself, but am tempted.

I've just recently started yoga myself, and am really enjoying it. The yoga workouts I've been doing have been stretching-oriented and not really strenuous (hour sessions of sun salutations, deep breathing, twists and such) and I have been using them more as a way to wind down in the evenings.

From what I've read, it says that doing yoga 15 minutes a day has much more benefit for you than doing one hour a week, and many suggest using yoga as your workout's cool-down.

You might look into some shorter yoga practices and try to incorporate that way?

Not to change your whole wrokout routine....BUT..if you want to do a strenuous yoga, you could change your rotation to a body part + cardio each day...and your rotation would look something like...

1-Back+abs+cardio
2-Bis+cardio
3-Tris+abs+cardio
4-Shoulders+legs
5-Chest+abs+cardio
6-yoga

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the great ideas, ladies. I knew you'd be a big help. I guess if someone wants to do something badly enough, they'll find a way to fit it in. (Hopefully that "someone" will be me!).
