How do they do it?

Today was my b-day (BIG 27!) and DH wanted to take me out for dinner before I came to work. I went out with the intentions of eating something BAD and I did.
I ordered ribs and fries...with gravy:eek: Ah....but it was my b-day.The ribs didn't come in rack form but more like 3 huge pieces. And b/c the ribs were so big, there wasn't a whole lot of room left on my plate for my fries.I didn't even make it through one rib and I ate most of the fries and I felt like SH*T! I took a break (wasn't full just grossed out) and then I had one more fry.I started chewing it and I wanted to spit it out, being in a public place, I opted to swallow it;) The meal was fine, it was just me. I doggie bagged the rest for DH to take home and I left the restaurant wondering, "How in the world do people eat like that all of the time?" and my DH being one of them. I eat my share of sweets but I don't eat alot of fried fatty foods. And obviously I am not use to it. When I got to work, I even thought about pucking b/c I felt like I needed to.
I just don't know how people do it. The most I eat in greasy food is stealing a couple of fries from my daughters McDonalds Happy Meal when she is not looking. Its amazing what people do to their bodies.

Haha... I wonder too sometimes...

When my hubby & I go to steakhouse, we never wonder why some people have huge alcohol drinks with whipped cream, huge dessert and huge portion of fried food and they are overweight. Many people are used to that kind of eating style, and they get hungry if they don't eat like that. Or some people try to save money on food, and they buy cheaper food like fast food. I found out that it is really cheap to get fast food for dinner than eating healthy when my hubby and I started watching what we are spending.

Anyways, I can't deny that fried food, food that's high in fat like dark/ red meat, and dessert are tasty thou... I looove eating :p maybe that's why it's hard for me to achieve my fitness goal x( but I also agree with you that it gets yucky when I eat too much of those.

When you consider that your stomach is as big as your fist, it makes you wonder how people can shovel all that crap in there and STILL eat again 1-2 hrs. later!

I knew my taste buds had changed when my SIL mailed us some "goodies" from America. There were some tasty cakes in there. I used to love them. Well I took one bite and it tasted like stale cardboard! My kids even commented on how their old favorite snacks tasted stale. I truly could never go back to that kind of eating.

Btw, belated happy birthday Lori! :)

Is it really all that much cheaper to eat fast food? I mean, two people go to Wendy's and it costs $15.00! For that in the grocery store you can by brown rice, beans, eggs, bananas, whole grain pasta....Dr Phil actually did a report on this once when he had an overweight family on (single mom, two boys, all big). The mom claimed all the fast food was because it was cheaper than the grocery store. He broke it down dollar for dollar; once she knew how to shop (previously she was buying $4.00 bags of Chips Ahoy, sodas etc.) it turned out that healthy food in the grocery was a lot less expensive than buying fast food (or junk food). It was interesting.

My hubby gets annoyed everytime we go out to eat, which is only about once a month, because I can barely put a dent in the plate of food they give you.

Its amazing and scarey the amt of food you get. I, like you, do not understand how poeple stuff themselves full of food...be it McDonalds or a steak house.

As far as going out to a $10 all you can eat place, there is no point for me. One plate and I am done for.

Thank goodness!!!!!

I remember in my early 20's there was a point in time where I ate McDonalds for lunch every day at work for a period of what was probably a couple of months! EEEEK! x(

I love McDonalds food and probably indulge in it about once a month now-a-days and that is plenty!:9

I firmly believe that eating anything in moderation is fine. It's when you cross that "line" that it starts causing problems....

I can tell you, they don't do it. My husband eats crap like that all the time, and he always has a stomach ache. He feels terrible about himself. On Sunday, he told me that if he didn't have me to do the grociery shopping and cookig his dinner, he would have had a heart attack by now. I asked him why he still ate ff everyday for lunch. He is addicted to it, and a rich green salad with chicken and chopped veggies with only one tablespoon of dressing really doesn't taste as good as a big mac.

Why are antacids so popular? Because bodies cannot eat like that and be healthy - and indigestion is our bodies way of telling us not to eat something. We've really become a nation of pill poppers when simply eating right and exercising would do the same thing.

Now, I can't say much because I'm feeling pretty lousy after making about a dozen wrong food choices yesterday. I added a longer weight routine, and my body responded by demanding more food. I didn't fulfill the demand with good foods, either. I feel hungover, even though I didn't drink anything! It's small healthy frequent meals today so I don't feel this way again! Oh I hate it!

My top weight was about 246. Basically, you just get used to it. When you eat like that all time your body gets used to it. You get used to feeling like carp so it doesn't feel any different to you. Now, when I eat full fat something, I do get a little queasy, but it is not terrible, and quite frankly sometimes it is worth it. I'm not talking about McDonald's because I personally hate that kind of food, but an occasional donut really hits the spot. I agree with Wendy, everything in moderation.

I was blown away the other day. I had a day off so I took myself out to breakfast with a good book. Something I love to do. I couldn't believe the amounts of food on the menu. A hashbrown bowl with two orders of hashbrowns, two eggs, gravy, cheese, and bacon, and then on the side pancakes, 2 bacon and 2 sausage. And that was one of the smaller offerings. It was literally enough for 2-3 people!

My family came to visit this weekend; my husband and I spent a ton of money at the grocery store before they got here so we could eat every meal here-- we thought it would be nice to talk and visit at home. They insisted on taking us out for breakfast, and I decided to indulge in some not-so-clean eating:( Bad idea. Long story short, for the next two days I was really sick and all day yesterday I felt yucky. It's only today that my stomach feels normal. I won't do that again!

Well I am one that can put away some major food I outeat my hubby. But this is 1 day a week we always go out to eat I have appetizers-a dinner usually steak or pasta-a bahama mama or wine and desert and I finish it all.I enjoy little chocolate treats everyday 1-2 minitures.Today however was pizza we never eat pizza but it was hot and I wanted to lay by the pool so I refused to cook and ordered out.I however can't eat more than 1 bad meal or I will get a tummy ache. But I enjoy going out to eat so I do eat (enough for 2)-I am always asked where do you put it.

But I enjoy going out to
>eat so I do eat (enough for 2)-I am always asked where do you
>put it.

That reminds me: whenever we go out to eat and at the end of the meal, I was so so so soooo full and cannot stuff anything anymore, I would order dessert. I can always manage to stuff that dessert down in my stomach after I am "so so so soooo full," and my hubby always asks me where do I put the dessert. I always tell him, I have another stomach just for dessert
;-)

I completely agree with you. I wonder how I did it myself for years. I love it that I can't eat greasy pit food anymore. I see alot of bad eating going on, but it is no wonder when you go out somewhere and all that is on the menu is: macaroni salad, potato salad, mac n cheese, churro (heart attack on a stick), plate of fries w/nacho cheese and chili and hot dogs. This is just a sample of what you will find at Water Country in Busch Gardens. We did have a great time. Anyhow, I ended up eating a Chicken Ceasar Salad with grease ridden chicken tenders (I ate 5 pieces cuz I needed some protein).

Interesting thread. I eat healthy a lot of the time but occasionally allow myself treat meals or what have you.

I will never completely give up any food group etc. because when one omits something completely from their diet that they enjoy, they obsess about it, obsess when others are consuming it, and are critical of those able to enjoy it.

My stomach actually churns worse when I eat "healthy" foods like any type of vegetable or fruit salad. It would be a lot easier to avoid the "bad" foods if they caused me to feel sick to my stomach.

I agree if I deny or obsess over food then I over do it so if I want something I eat it I figure I burn it off anyways and life is to short for me at this point (later who knows I may have a medical condition)to worry about every morsal put into my body.I am a good size and body fat unlike my former very thin counting every calorie boarding a eating disorder self.I was very obsessed with food it controled if I went to functions or not and holidays were a night mare everyone shoving food at me.I appluad anyone who has the willpower to eat clean 24/7 I am weak and gotta have some bad stuff-however if I was told for my health to do so I could.now if I go to a function I eat what is served and know one bad meal is not going to undo all my hard work. All and all I tend to eat healthy most of the time.
