Cathlete
Hi everyone – I haven’t been around for a while, except to check up on Cathe’s latest series. But I found a brand-new instructor with a brand-new series, and my first thought was to tell the Cathe crowd.
Kris Mougeot has 25 years of experience as an instructor, and she’s good! In addition to her teaching, she used to adventure race, so you know she loves to be super-fit. An old injury keeps her from doing high impact now, so these workouts are low impact, which I love. I’m always looking for new and challenging low impact options.

I like the Hot Flash workouts a lot. They’re designed in segments of different levels, which make them very accessible to just about everyone – and the mix-and-match options are endless. Just mixing up segments from the series could keep me busy for a couple of weeks, and I see lots of opportunity to use them as add-ons to my other workouts if I want an extra push.
I think her strength training is excellent and very well-rounded. It’s easy to adapt for all levels, and people can easily either lower or increase the intensity, depending on what they want. For cardio, she offers some good, solid low-impact Tabata and kickboxing routines. Here are the workouts:
SuperSculpt: I’ve never had this much fun with a high-rep, low-weight workout. There are so many different ways to use this workout, and every one of them will probably leave me wiped out – and looking forward to it again.
The Mix: The Mix is very cool! If you do all three segments at once, it’s not really a typical total body workout, but yet it does work your whole body in a very good way. It left me feeling refreshed and relaxed, yet really worked-out. The Ups and Downs segment is probably the most fun core workout I’ve done in a long time. I really like the standing ab work – such a nice change from the typical floor work that I’m used to. And the plank work … oh my! Super hard! The Tabatas were neat, and they made me laugh. Who thought I could move so fast without actually jumping? The Stretch is very thorough and felt wonderful. I can’t begin to emphasize how important a proper stretch is to stay physically fit.
Cardio Kickboxing: This is totally low impact, with a great focus on lower body moves. The combos stick with basic choreography and strong kicks. Intensity is intermediate, and I think it’s a great introduction into kickboxing for people who have never tried it.
Core: This one offers three 20-minute progressively harder segments – Level 3 is killer. There are lots of new moves, like “roly polys,” which I love. She also incorporates some floor glute work into these.
So check them out - and enjoy!
