Hot Flash Workouts - check them out!

SRP

Cathlete
Hi everyone – I haven’t been around for a while, except to check up on Cathe’s latest series. But I found a brand-new instructor with a brand-new series, and my first thought was to tell the Cathe crowd.

Kris Mougeot has 25 years of experience as an instructor, and she’s good! In addition to her teaching, she used to adventure race, so you know she loves to be super-fit. An old injury keeps her from doing high impact now, so these workouts are low impact, which I love. I’m always looking for new and challenging low impact options.

Her new Hot Flash series can be found here: Home

I like the Hot Flash workouts a lot. They’re designed in segments of different levels, which make them very accessible to just about everyone – and the mix-and-match options are endless. Just mixing up segments from the series could keep me busy for a couple of weeks, and I see lots of opportunity to use them as add-ons to my other workouts if I want an extra push.

I think her strength training is excellent and very well-rounded. It’s easy to adapt for all levels, and people can easily either lower or increase the intensity, depending on what they want. For cardio, she offers some good, solid low-impact Tabata and kickboxing routines. Here are the workouts:

SuperSculpt: I’ve never had this much fun with a high-rep, low-weight workout. There are so many different ways to use this workout, and every one of them will probably leave me wiped out – and looking forward to it again.

The Mix: The Mix is very cool! If you do all three segments at once, it’s not really a typical total body workout, but yet it does work your whole body in a very good way. It left me feeling refreshed and relaxed, yet really worked-out. The Ups and Downs segment is probably the most fun core workout I’ve done in a long time. I really like the standing ab work – such a nice change from the typical floor work that I’m used to. And the plank work … oh my! Super hard! The Tabatas were neat, and they made me laugh. Who thought I could move so fast without actually jumping? The Stretch is very thorough and felt wonderful. I can’t begin to emphasize how important a proper stretch is to stay physically fit.

Cardio Kickboxing: This is totally low impact, with a great focus on lower body moves. The combos stick with basic choreography and strong kicks. Intensity is intermediate, and I think it’s a great introduction into kickboxing for people who have never tried it.

Core: This one offers three 20-minute progressively harder segments – Level 3 is killer. There are lots of new moves, like “roly polys,” which I love. She also incorporates some floor glute work into these.

So check them out - and enjoy!

thanks for the info...but is there anywhere we can see a clip? youtube isn't working for me right now. Are there some there?

Thanks

She doesn't have a clip up yet, but she has one ready - it'll be on YouTube, and she'll get it up ASAP. Thanks for asking!

Shannon:

would you let us know when she has some clips available to view? These look interesting, but I will never buy anything just from reading a description, you know what I mean?

Thanks Shannon,

Clare

Renee - she does her cardio in 20-min segments, so it's not like the typical Cathe-like sweatfest. But for a quick 20-min blast, yes, I think it's very effective. The tabatas in The Mix are all low impact, lots of fun, and really build in intensity until you're panting - not gasping or anything, but your heart rate is definitely up. The kickboxing segments are lower intensity - but when I really focus on putting all my "oomph" into them - really reaching into the moves, and putting force behind the kicks, etc., I feel pretty darned good.

The other workouts (Core, SuperSculpt, and the other two segments in The Mix) aren't cardio. They are PURE WORK. Trust me on this. You will seriously work in her strength-focused workouts.

SRP, Thank you for turning me on to these workouts!

I received the workouts yesterday; this morning I started with Supersculpt - I did the first 2 segments and they got me:D It is a nice change of pace.
Each segment focuses on different muscle groups.

The first is shoulders and legs (squats); the second is biceps/triceps and legs (lunges). There were standing crunches in one of the segments but I've already forgotten which one!

I started the 3rd segment (back) but my shoulders were just wiped out so I stopped. To be fair and honest I was already fatigued from Cathe's Hard Strikes plus Shoulder Conditioning drills the day before but honestly the Hotflash segments worked my muscles very well.

I went on to do some plank work with the Mix; the standing abdominal crunches had similar moves as Supersculpt but there are planks added in. I am going to LOVE this one especially since there are NO sit-ups at all (they hurt my back).

Based on what I've already done in the 2 discs I am really looking forward to the Kickboxing and the glute-specific exercises in the Core CD. I'm also looking forward to doing the last segment in Supersculpt.

On a side note, Kris is good at cuing and shipping was SUPER fast:)

Jennifer - I'm so glad you're enjoying the HotFlash workouts! It's amazing how hard they work you, isn't it? Yep, Kris' cuing is excellent - I could probably do her workouts with my back turned to the TV. I can't wait to hear what you think about the Core DVD.

My abs are sore, Shannon! Not super bad but I can feel them.

I did both 1 and 2 of Core and really enjoyed it:) It's not all sit-ups (in addition to glutes) as I was afraid it might be so that was a nice surprise. I also like the glute exercises; there is one in level 2 where I thought "is she serious?!" and man did it work my thighs:D I feel them today, too.

I did both 1 and 2 of the cardio kickboxing; it's good for a day that you want work the muscles but not work super hard - just like you said:D

Hi Jennifer - Yes, Kris is pretty creative with her core work. Just wait until you try Level 3! I'm glad you liked the kickboxing, too.

I did Super Sculpt again last night. I always have fun with that one - I did all the segments, so it was like a total body workout. I think my favorite parts are the lunges in segment one, especially when you lift the back leg and push the weight forward in your hands. And then the standing core in segment two, with all the balancing moves. I'm still playing around with the weights to find that perfect mix. And you know I thought it might be cool to try using the discs during the lunge segment someday.

This morning I did Cathe's Power Hour (love that one!) but when it came time for the Ab section I stopped it and put in Hotflash Core; it was the perfect add-on :)
