This is a Christmas edition of getting to know your friends. Okay,
here's what you're supposed to do: copy this list and paste into a new post. Change all the answers so that they apply to you. I know it's heavy on the Christmas questions, but I got it from a Jewish friend who put in Chanukah answers.

I'll go ahead and start this one off.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Lately I do white craft paper and lots of pretty ribbons (only problem is you can see the box through the white paper sometimes)
2. Real tree or artificial? artificial--we've got too many allergies to risk a real one
3. When do you put up your tree? the day after Thanksgiving
4. When do you take the tree down? some time after the New Year
5. Do you like eggnog? Yes, especially with rum
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Miss Piggy puppet, baseball bat which came in a giant stocking
7. Do you have a nativity scene? yes, two little toy ones anyway
8. Hardest person to buy for? Brian
9. Easiest person to buy for? Isaac
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? a small plastic Christmas tree filled with pennies (but it was given with good intentions)
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail, but I don't mind receiving them by email
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? It's a Wonderful Life
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? all year, but especially after Halloween
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? sometimes
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Christmas cookies

I hope people don't think I'm a scrooge. I do celebrate Christmas but since my family doesn't include kids, we adopt a needy family every year instead of exchanging gifts. All money for decorations, etc goes to the family that we adopt so I not much into decorating.

23. What I love most about Christmas? Singing carols loudly and out of tune, cooking/baking, shopping, snuggling by the Christmas tree, "hiding" under the cover by the lights of the Christmas tree in our room

3. When do you put up your tree? We always say the day after Thanksgiving, but usually about two weeks after that
4. When do you take the tree down? You're supposed to take them down?!! Yeah, we usually get it down about January 2nd or so.
5. Do you like eggnog? only storebought fattening Hiland kind
6. Favorite gift received as a child? A real dollhouse with cute little furniture and EVERYTHING
7. Do you have a nativity scene? A few over the years--one on the mantle and others
8. Hardest person to buy for? My dad--he knows what he wants, he buys it for himself, and he doesn't try to act impressed
9. Easiest person to buy for? My mom--all I have to do is tell her how great she is, and everything after that is gravy
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Anything from my great Aunt. She means well, but they are always the strangest most unusable trinkets from overseas--think strange ceramic skunk faces that are hollow like for drinking, but can't be set down for the nose??
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Definitely snail mail. We do the whole family picture thing
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? All of 'em. Christmas Vacation is a must, but I love It's a Wonderful Life and White Christmas, and Meet Me in St. Louis has me in tear each time
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? I'm sad to say, but about two weeks before the day
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? only the goodies I'm given. Actually, that's pretty horrible, but I try to only keep around the things I really love, which are either made by moi or family.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? pralines, fudge...at least my grandparents still send a huge box of grapefruit, so we're healthy sometimes.
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Multi-colored on EVERYTHING. We have a red brick house, and once it's dolled up it looks like a gingerbread house.
17. Favorite Christmas song? I play the piano, so I love hymns, but also really love White Christmas and Silver Bells, etc.
18. Travel for Christmas or stay at home? most of my family is near, so I just have to wait for the others to come
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? gosh...no (can't believe it)
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel--because our star died this year
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? The extended family is Christmas Eve, and Santa and close family on Christmas morning
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? How fast it goes by...and all that work is gone in 28 days
23. What I love most about Christmas? My sisters, mother, and me all crowded in the kitchen. The holiday brunch I have for friends each year. Snow (it won't be long before we'll all be there with snow). Movies, music, merriment, holiday malls (I must be the only one), house lights, and most importantly I love my church on Christmas Eve when the light of one light transforms the church slowly but surely from light to dark and we sing Silent Night and are reminded of the true meaning of the season.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? I was 15 and my mom got me two complete make-up "looks" from 17 magazine, packaged in a cunning little box with the article on how to apply all the stuff--it was great.
7. Do you have a nativity scene? yes, but it's not out because it's old and fragile and will be ceaselessly tampered with by small people

9. Easiest person to buy for? my daughters
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? a really ugly matronly outfit from my FIL's 2nd x-wife--a very awkward moment, plus I felt obligated to wear it at least once in front of her.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? usually right after Thanksgiving and I do 90% online.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Everything in sight--I have no restraint
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? I'd like clear white, but I have large colored ones because the KIDS think little white lights are boring--we must be as flashy and dramatic as possible--I've given up:p

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? neither, in keeping with the large colored lights, we have a flashy purple bulby sort of thing with white glitter designs on it
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? we do sibling gifts on Christmas Eve (the kids draw names and buy gifts that way), the rest on Christmas Day.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? the temptation to keep spending money and canned Christmas music
23. What I love most about Christmas? Well, I do love celebrating the birth of Christ, my Savior, but I love lots of the trappings as well, especially baking and polyphonic Christmas Carols from the middle ages and renaissance and the lights, even the big colored ones.

8. Hardest person to buy for? Father-In-Law
9. Easiest person to buy for? Our closest friends
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Hmmm... can't really think of anything... maybe the full-fledged boxing gloves MIL got me last year when I wanted weighted gloves for kickboxing. (She said the look on my face was priceless, though... I was like "WTH?!?")
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail (I LOVE getting them so I always send a bunch out too!)
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? It's a Wonderful Life
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Usually in October
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? I don't think so... but I have given things to others & told them it was originally a gift for me
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? EVERYTHING... but we especially enjoy the sausage balls b/c that's the only time I ever make them.

17. Favorite Christmas song? I really like them all but I actually enjoy the unusual songs the best... like Jimmy Buffett's Christmas Album for instance
18. Travel for Christmas or stay at home? Travel a about an hour to the in-laws

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? DH & I open all of ours to one another on Christmas Eve (at home) & then we open with in-laws on Christmas Day (at their house)
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Feeling "obligated" to do stuff
23. What I love most about Christmas? Spending time with family & friends... & seeing people truly enjoy what I've gotten them. Oh yeah... the FOOD too!

7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, Precious Moments, bought it in '83 for $65.00, wonder what they are going for now

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Mostly wrapping paper unless it's a really wierd size or shape.
2. Real tree or artificial? REAL! We go out in a field and cut it ourselves.

I don't really celebrate Christmas, but I'll give it a go:

>1. gift bags: I hate it when people just tear of wrapping paper that thow it away. If they cut it off carefully, and saved it for reuse (as we did when I was a kid), I might do paper instead.

>16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? (this applies to what kind of trees I want to look at, since I don't put up a tree of my own): small multicolored (for heaven's sakes NO all-blue lights, which cause an optical illusion and are hard to look at ).
