Holiday-ish songs that make your ears....

bleed?

Understanding "different strokes for different folks" I'd rather listen to traffic horns than Dan Fogelberg's Same Old Lang Syne. Oh, I just HATE it, hate it, hate it!

So, what on your "I'd rather hear cowbells clanging than..." list?

"Suzie Snowflake" Wee, the ride's on me! AAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

I happen to like "Last Christmas" by Wham!

I don't particulary like "Blue Christmas" by Elvis, either, but it has an amusement factor to it, because I can sing along with my very terrible Elvis impression.

And "I'll Be Home for Christmas" makes me sad. My mom died on Christmas morn (11 yrs this yr) and at Thanksgiving before that we all thought she'd be back home for Christmas, so the song is kinda sad.

Nan

By Christmas, I'm pretty much fed up with many Christmas songs, except the ones that I don't hear often (and still like), like the Little Drummer Boy or Carol of the Bells.

What I hate hearing this time of year is the clanging Salvation Army bell. Especially since they are stationed next to the entrance/exit of stores, and most don't pay attention to how close people are to them, and still keep clanging away at that $#)!%&! bell!

"Santa Baby" - by anybody, especially Madonna

"Silent Night" - Stevie Nicks' version. It's just wrong.

"Christmas Shoes" - This one doesn't make my ears bleed, but it is so freaking sad and depressing, I can't listen to it without crying. Especially dangerous when driving.

But, I DO LOVE "Grownup Christmas List". I think Kelly Clarkson's is the best version.

Oh, and anything by Nat King Cole.

The Polish Christmas Donkey song... Holy CRAP, that is SO WRONG!

Any Country Christmas song (I'm not a fan of country...the twang is like nails on a chalk board to me)..

On the other hand, I heard a NEW song this year that I just love, "Marshmallow World" by Frank Sinatra. LOVE this!

I really don't like any of the 'newer' Christmas songs. I'm a sucker for the classics (O Holy Night, Silent Night, etc. etc.) and the stuff done by people like Bing, Frank, Nat...

There's this truly AWFUL song called Christmas Rapping by the Waitresses that makes me gag.

The only newer ones I like are Fairy Tale of New York by the Pogues and the Little Drummer Boy version done by David Bowie and Bing Crosby.

Exactly what I was thinking!!!

Kathryn, that bell drives me nuts. It is so loud, and I love when they point it in your direction as you walk by. I especially love it when my toddler drives me crazy by screaming on the way to the store and then I have to get out and walk by that not only going in, but going out, too.

I'm with Shelley, I like the old school Christmas music, the Drummer Boy by Bowie and Bing is amazing though...

I'm a HUGE fan of Christmas songs. However, I agree with Shelley, the old songs are the BEST! I also like James Taylor's Christmas album and any of Harry Connick Jr.'s. *drool*

I hate hate hate the 12 Days of Christmas, however. My kids love this song and play their kid Christmas CD with it on it over and over and over.... *serenity now!!*

I guess I look at the Salvation Army's bell ringing a little differently after seeing the work they do when I was down with the Red Cross helping with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I always say hi to the person ringing the bell (they are volunteering after all as well), and try to put something in the red bucket. It could be me needing their help one day, after all.

I can honestly say that I'm not exposed to any of it...thank goodness! The only xmas music I've heard this year is what I have on a playlist that I made myself. I saw a commercial the other day that started with Mariah Cary (sorry, I'm not looking up how to spell her name) singing something, and I clicked it before she could get the second word out.

Okay, I take it back. I did watch "Meet Me in St. Louis" the other night, and I love when Judy Garland sings "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." It's really such a sad song.

I forgot about the Christmas Shoes song, that one is horrendous. If mama's dead, she doesn't need new shoes! The undertaker doesn't give a hoot what she looks like!

And Grownup Christmas list, don't like that one either. My grownup list doesn't include peace and happiness. It includes a weighted vest and some jewelry!

All I Want for Christmas is You by Hoochie-Mama Carey. Yick!

I also agree w/ Stevie Nicks "Silent Night" Nails.Chalkboard.Ow

I pretty much like the older songs, but I do like some of the kids songs, too, just because they are fun. The Hippo song and the Donkey song. And I like Hardrock, Coco, and Joe.

Okay, I sincerely hope this post was meant as a joke...:( You don't have to enjoy the song but c'mon...that was extremely uncalled for IMO.

As we all know, I despise Christmas music (with the exception of what Shelley mentioned and Chrimstmas in Hollis by Run DMC).

And that Dan Fogelberg song....positively DREADFUL!

dumb bell ringer!

I don't look this svelt (motioning the conspicuous lack of 30 pounds of fat) by KEEPING my money! I donate it to the "Worship Cathe Fund." :D;)

I really don't like any Christmas music...unless it's a parody or something, like the stuff from Stephen Colbert's Christmas Special. :D
