High step advanced.

I try really hard to like HSTA but I have to say that this is my least favorite workout of Cathe's. I don't like how the music just slows down during the weight segments and the compound moves are done too quickly, especially the hamstring leg press with chest flies. I do like to do the cardio premix after a weight workout but the double risers are too much for me (especially for fast foot work). I love bootcamp and it's intensity but this workout feels like it was kind of thrown together. No flames please x(

DMD-I looooove Plyos. They really are the best, especially when it's the last one in a series, right?:D

CurlyQ- You hit the nail on the head. I did HSTA yesterday, & the only thing sore today are my hip flexors. I was wondering what the heck was up as I was doing IMAX 2 tonight then realized is was those darn fast foot repeaters on 2 risers. I also think those hamstring presses/chest flies were too fast-for me at least. Maybe I'm just not good at compound exercises. After all, I can't really touch my nose & pat my head. I also think maybe Cathe had to throw this together quickly for the Mini Step marketing deal or something. I don't know.

I don't care either, since I would much rather work out to my least favorite of her workouts , than to just about anyone else out there on the market.:)

Amen to that sister....;-)

Think I will do the cardio portion of MIC+HSTA cardio+lower body premix next, seems like they would go together well. Can't wait for the new workouts to arrive. Which workout are you most looking forward to? I am looking forward to the High step and the weight workouts the most...the stretching one looks good too!

Marla - It's funny how some people can't do two things at once, I think it gets worse with age, lol, I'm definitely one of those people. I even have a hard time with alternating bicep curls! I used to do compound moves with The Firm and had no problems, I guess back then I wasn't aware of how important it was to concentrate on the muscles being worked. (not meant as a jab to anyone, just a personal observation)

I admire anyone who can get through this workout on two risers - it is a tough one!

I've enjoyed reading all these responses. It's fun for me to see different reactions to workouts. I really like this workout -- but I happen to be a big fan of leg presses. I agree, though, the music is boring --- not nearly as good as the Intensity Series, kind of carnivally in places! The worst part of the workout for me is the one arm dips (which I can't do with one arm, so I cheat and use both, and I still can't quite make it through. I always dread this part of the workout....) I have however gotten to where I can do most of the chest crosses, and I have grown to like this exercize. The bottom line: if you like leg presses and intensity bursts, this is probably a good workout to get (even with the music).

Writer, I agree with you 100% -- it's interesting to see that we all have different opinions on workouts. I was holding back on getting HSTA because of the comments about the music and the leg presses. But I couldn't wait any longer -- I want 'em all! And guess what? I love this workout! :)

I agree with you! This was my first Cathe workout. I did it once before I got the Intensities and BB series. I sort of forgot about it and then had a dread factor about doing it because of the comments about music and the leg presses. But a few weeks ago I did it again, and I am in love! I plan to start her advanced workout rotation from earlier this year that had you doing it twice a week because I love it so much! I hope I do not burn out on it though because the rotation calls for it to be done twice a week for a month but I am thinking of substituting BC, which to me has the same type of feel to it afterwards, namely I am breathless and spent at the end}( }(

And I own this workout and have never done it because the music bores me to death and does not inspire me to move. I'm with CurlyQ on this one. Sorry, but there it is: you can't please everyone all the time.....

I have really grown to love this workout. I am not too thrilled with the cardio portion and gazillion leg presses, but I am quite winded after this one. It was hard for me to get used to doing cardio on a small step, but it's getting better. I really like the strength part of this workout. It offers a different challenge.

I don't like how the
>music just slows down during the weight segments

Oh, I hate that too! It's like you can hear someone actually turning the speed knob on the music! Not very well planned at all.

And I love step-ups, but set after set of the same leg exercise is too much, IMO. I varied things a bit by changing the step ups with each set: one set (both legs) with 10# weight on a 12" step; one set with no added weights on a 14" step; one set stepping down to the side rather than back, etc. I think it's better to vary the movement to avoid doing the same thing over and over in the same range of motion.

I LOVE this workout! Music, speed and all! I feel it is neccesary to slow the music down for the leg presses and I am so glad Cathe put this workout together with so many sets because I need help in that area of my body. I feel so worked out after I complete it. Guess we all are different. I even like the music! :7

I enjoy this workout. Honestly when I first did this workout the music did catch me off guard and I thought it was a little weird. But, IMO, I think the music slows down b/c some people tend to do things to the beat of the music, I'm one of them. So slowing the music down during tricep push-ups helps alot (for me anyway).

Obviously, but it was handled much better in Bootcamp, where the song changed to a slower one when slower moves were done. This "let's crank the music up faster/down slower" technique in HSTA is a very "thrown together" way of doing it. It actually makes me like the workout less than I would if the music were smoothly edited.

This one grew on me. I wasn't wild about the music at first but the workout definitely grew on me and now it is one of my faves. I love all the step ups. The way they slowed the music down was definitely different from how Cathe normally does it but now I'm used to it.

P.S. dmd - I did the HSTA cario & lower body premix followd by BC cardio & lower body premix....thanks for the idea! I couldn't remember where I had heard about this when the idea popped into my head this week...anyway...thanks! It was a great workout!

I feel just like Angela. The music threw me at first but I got used to it. I don't like compound moves or circuit workouts, but as always I gave this several trys & I learned to love it...MOSTLY because it really made a difference in my rear view!

Ruth:)
