High step advanced.

Hi..I'm have most all of Cathe workouts, but not the high step ones. Was thinking of getting the Advanced. Is it a worthwhile workout?

Thanks, Jodi

Yes, I think it is. Do you like BootCamp? It is very similar, but without kickboxing moves. Very creative, fast moving, and with enough leg presses to satisfy even Aquajock, I should think :)

Cheers,
Sandra

I have done it only one time. I remenber lot of leg presses.I don´t have the high step. I use my fanny lifter to do the leg presses and my step in the cardio segments.I am going to do it today. Later I will post my opinion.

I love High Step Advanced. It is a nice change. More weight work than Boot Camp and a little friendlier cardio segments.

It is very worthwhile!

Hi there~

I love this workout! I sometimes use the cardio+lower body premix in conjunction with Bootcamp's cardio+ lower body premix for an intense lower body cardio blast. I wish Cathe made more workouts like these.
I don't think you can go wrong with this one!:)

That does sound like a great cardio/lowerbody combo. I am definetely going to try that one out. I wonder how many minutes this workout would be?

I like HSTA a lot!! I use the upper body only premix as add ons when I am pressed for time. I would definitely say it's worth buying.

Aila:)

I have done HSTA yet. It is great. I think the Cathe's cueing is not as good as usual in the cardio. It is only my opinion.I did modifications in the cross over push ups and in the one arm disps. I am an advanced exerciser and I can not do the push up cross over the step. The dips ? Maybe some day. This workout is a challenge and I looove the challenges. Anyway I prefer bootcamp.Only one more comment : There is no abs exercises in this workout.

I love this work out! At first, I was a little put off because I heard about the leg presses but they really are not that bad. It is a worthwhile purchase in my opinion.:)

Hi Beverly,

I did this again today and it took me 55 mins. HSTA cardio+lower body is 26 mins. and BootCamp+lower body is 34 mins (minus 5 min.w/o the warm-up). Man oh man was I feeling it today! I wanted to wimp so bad since legs were tired from a long run yesterday. I run again in the morning and will surely take it slooooow. I have enjoyed doing this for lower body the past month. I usually do upper body on run days. Gauntlet it a goodie too! I will usually do it if I can't get upper body in after a run. Good luck with this one let me know if you like it!:) dmd

Hi dmd!

Thanks for the reply. I am going to give this one a try tonight. It sounds great and not to short. I love the Gauntlet too. I was hooked on that one for months.

Have a good run!! I got in 6.2 miles last night.

I don't care for this one too much. I just did it this evening. The music is boring. I thought the cardio was too short. Two minutes of cardio times five, what was the point? AND, if you do not feel like concentrating, the compound moves can really throw you. I wasn't prepared to do a rear lunge with hammer curls so quickly & wobbled there for a bit. I don't know. I've had this one for a while cause everyone raves about it but this is only my second time using it. Maybe I just didn't feel like working out. Usually though, once I get started with Cathe, I really get into it.

All that said, she really doesn't have a bad workout at all. I'd just rather do BC or one of the Terminators.

My 2 cents,

Interesting perspective on compound moves. I don't mind them so much. What I find so appealing about HSTA is it's quick and dirty intensity...BootCamp has this quality too. I personally have a difficult time concentrating on "step" workouts. I find myself very impatient with them. In my head I am saying, " Lets start the intensity already" I don't want to be at a moderate heart rate for 60 mins. This is my problem with the I-max workouts too....I have no patience for the 5 rounds of step to get to the blast! I'd rather do short intense blasts and grab some heavy weights and keep the heart rate up. I think it really is about what kind of workout one is after.I hope Cathe either continues to make these sort of intense cirduit style workouts or offers the premixes so we can put them together ourselves. She is the best!! I am primarily a runnner and find that I loooove to run slow ( 10 mi. pace) for 4-8 mi. at a time but, when it comes to my Cathe workouts I want them shorter and intense.

i really like HSTA! it's one of my faves (up there with viper and guantlet)... i burn more calories doing HSTA than i do bootcamp!

I have found the intensity to be more difficult if I grab a heavy weight for those step-ups....Woa! When I do the cardio/lower body premix and really up the weight I am literally dizzy after the sit and stands...Love, love, love this style workout. dmd

Those step-ups, well I could do those all night. They are the easy part of the work-out and today, no worse for the wear. I like the intensity blast too, I just thought they were too far apart & only five of them. Also, I felt it was a pretty good workout for the biceps & triceps, I just think this is my least favorite as far as the music & cardio is concerned. I would rather do a Terminator. As far as calories burned, any of the Terminators & HSTA burn for me about the same amt of calories: approx 560 cal, BootCamp only qbout 425.

I hear you Marla about the music! I always cringe a bit when the music allllll of a sudden slows down from cardio segmant to the step-up portion. Just poorly edited I guess. It would be cool if Cathe came up with a workout that involved longer more intense cardio blasts that used the step for Plyo/power moves. It seems these workouts affect my overall fitness level best. A girl can dream right? dmd
