since starting sts my neck seems always to be stiff. do you have any suggestions to relieve this? could it be my weights are too heavy??
 
Hi Lkl! It is quite possible that you are tensing your neck muscles as you lift your heavier weights. Also make sure that when you are lifting your heavier weights that you are not trying to look at the TV at the same time. This can absolutely strain your neck. If your neck is currently stiff, try working 5 minutes daily on neck exercises to relieve the stiffness. Do PNF stretching for head rotations to left and right, head tilts to ear as well as at a 45 degree forward tilt, forward and backward tilt, and chin tuck and jut forward (looks like a clucking chicken).

PNF is a technique in which in this case you use resistance with hand against head in the direction you want to stretch, then you back off of the resistance and stretch slowly into the actual direction of the stretch. Use PNF before each of the neck stretches.

Thanks Cathe! I know that I'm not the one who asked this question but my neck has been stiff also. This is the first time that I heard of PNF. I tried it and it really works! (Maybe my husband will wake up with a stiff neck -- then I can show him what I learned.:D)
