Hey True Blood fans!

I thought the episode was a great season 2 kick off... Only drawback is I can't really be "Mr. Know It All" to my friends... They rendered me useless when I told them Lafayette was dead in the car!!!:eek::eek:

Chris.
Heck if you have HBO there was this sorta extra where they interviewed the producer/director guy and even he said that if you've read the books you'll know that Lafayette was in the car. I was SO shocked when it wasn't!

Janie, I saw the interviews online. Quite secretive, no???

Supposedly, Maenads thrive on lust and intoxication so I guess she is planning some sort of an orgy. At least that's what's in the book... The guy's name is Eggs (Benedict is his real name...). I won't tell you who Sookie hooks up with (if she does...) but it's not Sam... ;)

Sookie gets clawed by the Maenad to send a message to the Vampires of Shreveport.

Chris.

Awe come on! Chris, . . spill the beans! I just finished Dead to the World and I'm on book 5 Definitely Dead, . .the front cover has Sookie riding a tiger and what looks like Bill right behind them.

:D:D:D

The tiger is another shifter, Quinn... I guess Eric is your best bet as to who Sookie will hook up with... but not yet... maybe in Book 10...

god, i hate quinn....he irritates me soooo much - the whole "babe" thing just annoys me...
but hey now, when eric constantly says "my lover," well, now that is a different story ....*swoons* lol

i guess creepy lady with tara is the maenard, with an enhanced storyline....

I think as the books develop more agendas are revealed. For one, Quinn is a bit of a mama's boy, what with the mother and sister issue, Alcide is a bit of a manipulative (and spineless) politician, Bill is kind of a geek... so that leaves Eric, I guess... lethal and sarcastic.

My favorite part is Sookie's and Eric's escape from the pyramid hotel bombing. It might be a long way to go, but I can't wait to see that sequence in the show!!!

Chris.

skimming living dead in dallas now to jog my memory...yes, freak lady is maenad...totally forgot she always appears with a razorback.....
took the words out of my mouth...quinn is such a mamma's boy - i love it when he gets kicked out of bon temps in the last book ....

do you guys think they will make maryanne be the maenad or maybe a succubus...change it around or something? or would those be the same creatures?? im curious to see what she wants from sam if its not that HUGE chunk of cash he stole!!

i hope they kill off jessica...she gets on my nerves (though i was rolling at the recycling part too). i didnt even recognize eric with his foils in his hair...too funny! i love eric.

i cant believe that exorcist lady was the dead person in the car!!!! i was so sure it was lafayette. the whole time, my BF was getting mad at me cuz i kept saying "that didnt happen in the book...THAT didnt happen in the book!" hes like "ITS NOT THE BOOK!!!!" lol

Melissa, aren't you glad that things unfold so differently, but as interesting as the books? I tell you, if the series followed the books to a T I don't think it would be such a success; we'd know what to expect.
I think Jessica is quite funny, like "Can I eat your girlfriend?" funny!!! And the whole True Blood cocktail tasting was hilarious! "Two parts O negative, to one part B positive. Remember that."... :D:D:D

That said, books are all written from Sookie's perspective so that's why you sometimes don't clearly get what actually happens (as with the Maenad attack on Sookie's back or at the cabin in the end of Book 2). I'm happy with the way each character in the series has their own story unfolding.

Chris.

***Spoilerish Comment for Book 9***

Kelly - who do u think Sookie's granddad was referring to in the end of the book?... Bill or Eric?

I don't know! I'm an Eric fan, so I kinda hope it's him, but Sookie's thoughts towards the end of the book seemed to open the door for Bill to re-emerge as a love interest......

I agree that it's nice that the series isn't just following the books to a T, or I'd know everything already! It seems obvious that the show will use the murders and mysteries as a loose framework, but we cannot bet on any character following the same arc as the character in the book. In the end, I think that's probably best, but it can make for some confusing moments as you watch, thinking "Wait, but in the book.....". Jason is a prime example of that! I'm kinda disappointed he doesn't seem to be going the same route as the book, but the logo on his hat in the shows makes me giggle :)

Somehow I got the impression that Book 9 was a stepping stone for Book 10... not a lot happened in there, what with the Weres' coming out, or the vampire - fairy battle. And what happened didn't have closure.

In any case I think it'll be fun if we can keep this thread and speculate on the show's progress. None of my friends have read the books... :(:(:( so I can't really discuss anything with them.

Chris.

I'm a new convert!
I don't get HBO, but I saw an episode when I was staying in a hotel, and just got the DVD boxed set and watched it all! (12 episodes--kind of a short 'season,' isn't it?) Amazon is already taking pre-orders on season 2, but I guess that won't be out for a while, huh?

Kathryn welcome to our little "blood thirsty" thread!!!:D:D:D

I got the Season 1 DVD pack, too and prior to the second season I re-watched it. Did you get a chance to look at the extras? They are quite funny!

It isn't very short, each episode runs at about 50' (regular peisodes run at about 42'). My best bet is that Season 2 will be released about 5-6 months after it wraps. That's how long it took for Season 1.

Why don't you read the books in the meantime? ;)

Chris.

Now I'm on book 7. You know I sorta wish that the TV series would bring in Bubba. I'd love to see how that would pan out. Any characters that you hope to see this season? By the way, . .I agree with y all Quinn is irritating, . . how in the world she all of a sudden started dating him is beyond me. There was barely anything built up there. It was just oh okay lick my leg, . now lets go on a date. So spoil it for me will ya, . .tell me what happens in 7.

:D:D:D

I think that ever since Bill introduced her to the joys of sex she is unstoppable!!! Just kidding! But come to think of it... Bill, Alcide, Eric, Quinn...;)
I do hope they bring in Bubba... might be fun! In any case, they are bringing the Queen much earlier, in the last couple of episodes this season.

Just finished re-reading Book 3 and I'm off to 4 where Eric loses his memory (or not!!!)

Chris.

So I just watched "Twilight" for the first time this past weekend and fell in love with it and have the Twilight Saga book set on order. Since I'm now a convert to the dark side I must check out this "True Blood" since it is apparently more of an adult level show (and I'm certainly not a teenager anymore). Is "True Blood" really violent? I'm not a fan of gore which is why I like "Twilight", but I'm really digging this vampire stuff

What!!! Chris you are killing me, . . are you saying he never really lost his memory???? Still on book 7, . . .awe common, . . I read fast but not that fast.

Jennifer, the Sookie Stackhouse books (a.k.a. True Blood) are not gore-ish but the show is... They are definitely an adult reading, with many subtext messages in them. As I've already written, the Twilight books are linear and centered around Bella and Edward. Charlaine Harris has built a whole thrilling Sookie-universe, with many diverse characters (vampires, shifters, maenads, fairies) to match.

Janie, ok ok... LOLOL actually Eric had indeed lost his memory, but everything comes back to him so he knows what's happened between him and Sookie in Book 4!!!! Although until Book 8 I think he doesn't disclose it. ;)

So, there!!!!

Chris.

Thanks, Chris!! I will definitely look into the Sookie Stackhouse books next. I can handle gore better in a book than in a show/movie and these sound super interesting :)
