Help with my flight

Cathlete
I just submitted a post but it disappeared. Sorry if its a duplicate.

I have only two options for my return flight back to florida - 945am or 6pm.

If i chose the 945 am flight Sunday, will i have time to take the early bird class?? Or is that cutting it too close for my plane?

Also what class is being taught for the early bird class? Id like to find out so i can decide if i want to spend hours in the airport to take the class or if i just want to cut my losses. It will help my decide on what return flight I should choose.

Also how far is cathe's gym/hotels from philly airport?

You would need to be to the airport no later than 8:45 a.m. and maybe even a little earlier to be safe. Don't see how you could possibly do that and make it for the class. I think the airport is about 45 minutes away, so you wouldn't be giving yourself much time to shower after the class and get to the airport (if any time). You'll also miss the farewell brunch which is a lot of fun! :/ Not sure what is planned for the class but it could change at a moments notice. Cathe didn't do what she had planned last year. She improvised based on what the group wanted to do.

Liann is correct. In order to make it to your 9:45 AM flight you will need to take Rapid Rover no later than 7:00-7:30 AM to return the rental car, etc.

I need a rental car?

Oh.. didn't realize i had to get a car too. I thought the Rover bus was going to take care of all the transportation issues...guess I didnt really think all of this through well enough. Am i mistaken? I also didnt realize the airport was that far away.

Another question here along the same lines. It looks like my return flight time is going to have to be 1:15 out of PHL. Will I be able to make it to the airport in time from the Sunday breakfast if it ends at 11:15? That gives me 2 hours from the time we leave in the morning to get me to the airport and check in. I don't know how big PHL airport is and how congested it gets at that time of day. What do you think? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't take that flight...it's cutting it too close. The airport is at least 40 mins away.

1:15 FLIGHT -- CAN I COME TO BRUNCH??

Hey folks!

I think I can help a bit here too.

To be comfortably on time for your Sunday flight/train, you need to leave (from ANY of our locations -- the hotels, the gym or the Diner) at least 2.5 hours before your scheduled flight/train time, and if you have a rental car allow yourself a full 3 hours. I myself, being a neurotic wuss, always shoot for 3 hours even if I don't have a rental car. I'd rather be sitting at the gate reading a book than huffing and puffing down the concourse running to make a flight! :)

This means that if you have a flight/train in the 1:15 time frame, you'll still have time to come to the Diner for a good solid hour of the Brunch. This gives you plenty of time to eat, say your goodbyes and grab those last precious pictures with Cathe and with your RT friends!

Remember that our Brunch starts at 9:00ish -- the bus will leave Cathe's gym around 8:35 - 8:45, or as soon as we've all toweled off, grabbed our gear and scrambled onto it after the Early Bird class. The Diner is 10 minutes away -- you'll pass it every day coming from the hotels to Cathe's gym. To catch a 1:15 flight/train, you'd just need to make a reservation for Rapid Rover pick you up from the Diner at 10:15. That would put you at the airport or train station around 11:00. If you're returning a rental car, I'd recommend you leave the Diner no later than 10:15. We will be providing you with driving directions, by the way, in case you ARE renting a car.

For those of you who haven't been on a Road Trip, it might help if you picture the Brunch. We go to a very typical New Jersey diner which is busy busy busy on a Sunday morning. You will be able to bring your luggage on the Cathe bus, and it'll be safe there while you eat. Cathe and Chris will treat you to this wonderful meal, but otherwise you'll find that it's very much like going to a diner with a large (well, huge) group of friends. :) They rope off a big section of the room for us, but we're seated at booths and tables just as if we walked in and said "Hi -- How long a wait is there for a party of 105?" ;-) And they'll have waitresses (I'm not sure how many, but trust me, it's enough) assigned to us. You will order your food from the menu (dee-lish) and enjoy a last yummy meal with a table full of your new RT friends. If you need to leave at 10:15, just be a little more aggressive about flagging down your waitress and telling her when you need to leave! She may suggest certain foods to you that are quicker. Then when you're just plain stuffed, you'll grab your camera for a few parting shots, exchange hugs and tears, say your goodbyes to Cathe and Chris, and then you'll dash out to the Cathe bus to grab your luggage and WHOOSH, off to the airport/train station you'll go via Rapid Rover or rental car.

The last 30+ minutes of the Brunch for everyone are just like YOUR last few minutes will be -- people milling about, lingering, hugging, taking pictures, exchanging thank-yous and addresses and cell phone numbers, sharing a last cup of coffee for the road.

So -- definitely come for a while if you have an early afternoon departure. It just won't be the same if you don't! ;-)

Hope this helps!!!

RE: 1:15 FLIGHT -- CAN I COME TO BRUNCH??

Kathy - thank you so much for your response. For me, it doesn't look like there is much else to choose from (for flights) to get me home sometime before midnight but I didn't want to miss anything either. Considering I have a 3.5 hour drive after my plane lands I was really hoping this would work. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief!

Also Kathy - as a first timer I REALLY appreciate all your posts to help us along the way. Thank you so very much!!!

Angie,

I fly in/out of Philly and always try to get there 2 hours ahead of time for domestic flights. If I were using Rapid Rover, I would allow myself even a little more time. The layout of the entire airport itself is, IMO, somewhat bass-ackwards, so the extra time can't hurt. Check-in typically has taken me a half an hour with the security checkpoint taking anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. Sometimes it gets backed up, but it moves at a pretty decent pace. The most trouble I've run into is baggage claim. At times, when there are staffing issues, it can be a long wait. I would try to fly in as early as possible on Friday to avoid the rush hour traffic.

Early Bird Class

jenmgo,

Just wanted to let you know that Cathe hasn't finalized the format for the 2008 Early Bird class. In 2005 it was a high step class -- if memory serves me (and boy, that's real iffy these days) we did a little cardio and a little sculpting. But I could be wrong; I only specifically remember using a high step. ;-) Last year we did kickboxing. Plus, even if the class is already planned to be a particular thing, Cathe will modify it if there's a groundswell of support from the Road Trippers for something different. That happened last year -- our kickboxing class on Saturday was so much fun that everybody wanted to do it again, so that's what Cathe taught on Sunday morning. Wahoo!

I wish I could tell you something more definite to help you decide about staying. It IS a verrrrrrry early morning class. But it's also a really fun way to cap the weekend. :)
