I took my kids to the mall to buy them some shoes, when I came out of the mall I found a note stating that I bumped into them and dented thr front bumper. I'm 100% sure I didn't hit anyone or came close. I had 3 of my kids with me, we didn't feel anything or thres no scratches on my car bumper. What do I do, how do I protect myself if ths person is lying. Why didn't she call security or the police? I know if someone hit my car I would call police or authorities and wait for the person to come out. What do I do?!

Don't do anything. If they track you down they will still have to prove that you did the damage. There are security camera's at the mall, if they file charges then you can ask the police to pull the footage.

That seems really weird to me...they just left a note saying you dented their bumper?? Did they leave a number for you to call to get in touch with them? Did they say they would be contacting you somehow? I mean....what did they want you to do about it???

Sounds like some kind of scam, did they leave contact info? I would personally do nothing, they can't possibly have proof for something that did no happen. Wouldn't your bumper be a little dented if the force was enough to dent theirs anyway?

I've heard of scams like this. Some people tried to pull a similar scam on my mother in a parking lot near her house. If I were you, I'd go to the business where you were parked and ask the manager if they've had any scams like this happen lately. They should be alerted.

Agreed. I've also heard of these scams. The note sounds really weird; I know if I got bumped, I wouldn't wait to leave a note on the person's car...I would get out and probably scream at them lol

Definitely sounds like a scam! How would they know you dented their bumper anyways? If anything is dented, I bet they hit you while you were in the store and then tried to pawn it off on you with the note. It all sounds very fishy. I would just ignore it. By the way, my nephew recently had his car door smashed into right after he parked his car in a mall parking lot. He saw it happen and the lady gave him her insurance information. Only thing is, she LIED about her name, policy number etc... Luckily, he wrote down her license plate and called the police when he found out she lied. The police tracked her down but told him that they can't do anything about it. Makes no sense to me, but it was something about the parking lot being "private" or something. He's now trying to take the lady to small claims court. All that to say that this person would really have to work hard to prove you did anything so I wouldn't worry about it.

She did leave her # on the card. Called the number and she proceded to tell I dented her front bumper with my vehicle. I told her I was 100% sure I did not touch her car. It just doenst make any since to me. If I was to hit someone I would have waited for them or call security and let them know I hit someone, or if I wanted to avoid it would have been just as easy for me to remove my car and park somewhere else. Anyways I told her she would have to call the police, because I wasn't about to give her any insurance information when I was positive I didn't even come close to touching another car. How do I know if when she was trying to leave the mall instead of putting her car in reverse she didn't bump into my car and now shes trying to put the blame on me. I just hope ths alll goes away and she rethinks what shes doing! Liann how are you and the baby doing? Thanks everyone!

If she wasn't there when this allegedly happened, then how does she know it was you? This definitely sounds like a scam to me...it's up to her to PROVE it was you and obviously she can't so I wouldn't think any more about it.

Yeah, if it's a private lot, they can't write a ticket. I smushed someone in a parking lot once :eek::eek::eek::eek: Wasn't paying attention and backed into her while she was honking and beeping at me :eek::eek::eek::eek: Was having a rough day at work and in la la land. Not one of my prouder driving moments.

I didn't get a ticket, but he did give us both police reports so we could do the insurance filing.
