Help me stop eating JUNK!

Hi Everyone!!

I need some inspiration and advice on how to curb the junk! I have been eating a lot of sugary candy lately...ahhhhhhh Help me stop! Thanks!

Eat a huge breakfast and fill it with protein! Then do the same at lunch and you'll be set.

Yep. Fiber-rich foods early in the day kind of kill cravings.

Get it out of the house!
If it's not around, it won't be a temptation.

When you shop for food, don't pick up the junk. Make sure you have a healthy snack in the car, so if you are tempted to buy some junk, you can tell yourself "I don't need that, because I've got my yummy X in the car I can eat."

Pick up some fruits. Their natural sweetness may help satisfy your sweet tooth in a health way (just don't add sugar to them).

Yep, don't buy the junk and get it out of the house. One of my favorite snacks when I'm hungry is Fage 0 percent Greek Yogurt, drizzled with honey, and topped with fresh kiwi. It's got protein, sweetness, calcium and is filling. And yummy!:)

Ditto to what Kathryn said. I just don't buy it. When I first started to eat better I just put myself into "survivor man" mode and learned how to pay attention to when I'm really hungry. I stop eating before I'm full and I chew my food slowly. I never eat standing up either. I had to get into the right mental state of not giving in even though I could. I know it isn't easy and it is so much easier said than done. I also don't believe in completely depriving myself of an occassional treat. Once a week I'll eat something sweet I'm unfortunately, fortunate to live 1/2 a mile away from here http://www.bouchonbakery.com/. When I do have one I just make sure that it is a small one and that I chew like it was my last meal for the next few days, Survivor Man style. If you haven't seen that show you should check it out on the Discovery Channel.

I have such a sweet tooth it isn't funny and rarely can I walk past the Bulk Barn w/o buying something. I've learned just to buy in small quantities and to never bring it into the house. I like to snack on raisens in the evening to help w/my sweet tooth. Last night I snacked on a small bowl of dry shreddies and that helped. I eat fruit all day long to also combat the sweet tooth too!

Not much help as I'm in the same boat. I have found that my craving for chips isn't what it used to be and a small bag satisfies my desire for them now where I used to have to eat the whole big bag before. When you eat healthy your body starts to reject the junk I find after a while.

I like the tag line from another poster: comfort food isn't so comforting after you've eaten it.

I have a box of Special K with the dried strawberries that I'll eat sometimes as a snakc. Only 3 WW points if you portion it correctly (1 c. cereal, 1/2 c. skim milk).

I agree with Kathryn. Get the junk out. Throw it away. Better in the trash than on your hips and thighs!

I just wanted to add....to stop the cravings, I eat a high protein diet (no counting calories. I eat protein when hungry) for 3 days. Only carb I'll eat is green and grows out of the ground! The sugar cravings leave quicker for me when I do this.

I saw this tip in a recent WW magazine: every time you make a healthy choice (e.g. reaching for carrots instead of the cookie), pay yourself $1. Keep your stash in an envelope and use the money to treat yourself to a new workout, a pedicure, an outfit, whatever!

A similar motivational suggestion was to pay $20 to your favorite charity every time you blow off a workout.

Another vote for "get it out of the house." Another hint, allow yourself a cheat day every week, and only buy what junk you will eat on that day.

Now THAT's a great idea!

Another suggestion, in addition to the ones already mentioned above, is to considerably increase your water intake. You'll be so busy running to/from the bathroom you won't have time to eat junk! ;)
