Dear Cathletes,
I was so looking forward to xtrain and instead, on December 28th, had a bunyionectomy and a bone spur removed from my arthritic left toe. I am not supposed to be weight-bearing for two weeks and after that no impact to or movement of this joint for 4-6 more weeks. Full recovery by middle of March or beginning of April. Can anyone, especially if you have experienced this or have friends who have, give me some suggestions for how to modify workouts to accommodate this limitation? I of course know to stop when it hurts and to follow my doctor's order.

Thanks!

i had surgery on the 5th of december

Hi, I hope that you are feeling well. i had surgery for my bunion on the 5th of December. I was on non-weight bearing for 3 weeks. I am also bummed that I can not do xtrain until I heal (I am waiting for a full recovery). Here are a few tips that have helped me. First, I gave up the crutches after a couple of days and started to crab crawl around the house. Great for the shoulders, butt and core (just keep your bad leg in the air). I modified a couple of Cathe's work outs to suit my needs. Try butts and guts, gym style legs and lower body blast (all floor work). I did turbo barre using my good foot for support, then i placed my bad foot on a bench to work the other leg. I have been able to work out my upper body by modifying utilizing a chair. You can do tricep dips and push ups (bad leg up), abs, modified Yoga and Pilates. I think the medicine ball and ankle weights have helped me keep my muscle tone in my legs. I hope this helps, just be creative with the dvd's you have. Good luck! Have a speedy recovery...Also, remember to stretch and manipulate your big.
