Help! I need a blender for Shakes

Um....$450 for a Vitamix blender????
I guess I'll join the lowly folks who shop at target an osterizer whoo-dingy or something!

I don't know about the newer models, but I got my 4500 model for $359 from www.alissacohen.com (including shipping).

Of course, if you want a basic, no-frills blender, then a less-expensive thing will definitely do (and $359 still sounds expensive for a blender!).

It sounds like the bomb diggity Mercedes of blenders! I just don't know that I'd use one enough to justify the cost. Perhaps one day.....

Another vote here for the super freakin' awesome Vitamix! My husband and I spent several years pining for one but also thinking that there's no way it could be worth $400 and thinking we might not ever use it. Well, that was over two years ago and I still use it just about every day and am always going on about how it is the best thing in my kitchen. The thing is incredible for clean eating. I make veggie soup in it at least once a week and it takes less than 10 minutes total including clean up. It also makes great salsa, dips, frappucinos, smoothies, frozen desserts, margaritas }( and even works for chopping up onions, apples, carrots, and other produce for muffins and casseroles.

I know it seems like a ridiculous amount "for a blender", but the Vitamix really is so much more than just a blender. It is the rock star of my kitchen. :p

Another vote for a Vitamix. It can handle any job....even nuts and nut butters. I also have the dry blender for blending grains for homemade bread. What's even better is Vitamix totally backs its products with incredible customer service (and you can even buy parts). I have another blender which worked really well and was top rated by Consumer Reports (L'Equipp) but one of the inner blades broke. I only needed a new container. It has been over 6 months and the company is still "out of stock." I've contacted them 4 times to no avail. I refuse to purchase a new L'Equipp for just a broken blade (it will probably break again!). With a Vitamix you will always be able to get parts and service for your blender. Well worth every penny.
