Help! How do I get rid of FRUIT FLYS?!!!

Travisli

Cathlete
I have a minor case of fruit flys in my kitchen from some bananas that I had and they are multiplying. . . does anyone know how to get rid of them? They are driving me CRAZY!!!

hey Travisli

Here is a quick method... Get a small bowl and fill it about 1/2 full with red wine or red wine vinegar (apple cider vinegar, juice, rotten fruit and water will all work too just not as fast). Cover the bowl with cling wrap very tightly. Then poke several small holes in the top with a pencil. They need to be big enough that the flys can get in. Make sure that the edges of the holes are turned in towards the bowl. (the hole should feel smooth). Then just set the bowl on the counter and it should fill up overnight. The flies go in but they can't get out and then they get too close to the wine and drown.

Some wine in the bottom of a wine bottle will work too if it has a pretty long neck.

Fly drowning!
Good luck

Oh yuck! We had this problem a few years ago - sooo nasty! We did what Heather mentioned above - worked like a charm!

You can also put some apple cider vinegar in a bowl - you just need enough to cover the bottom of the bowl (I use a flat bottom container like a cottage cheese container) and then add 1-2 drops of dishwashing liquid. Don't stir....just leave it out. No need to cover or anything.

Pesky little buggers aren't they??

This is what I do too and works great.

I read that when you bring fruit home, you should wash it in a mix of water and something like lemon juice.

I wash my bananas and cantaloupe.

Thanks for all the help ladies. I put my bowl of apple cider vinegar out last night and there were quite a few floating this morning. . . I saw more (not many though) still flying so I just left the bowl on the counter!! Never been so happy to drown something in my life!

Thanks again!
