I've had the estimated bills in the past where they were just too damn lazy to come read the meter.
After the 3rd month in a row I called and they had the friggin' nerve to tell me there was a note that they couldn't get to the meter due to the DOG !
Well, yes she barks, and yes she is big (giant schnauzer), but YES she runs the other way while she barks and is behind an 8' fence which is 4' from the meter you lazy damn jerk !
I suggest you go read you meter right now and log it (assuming your bill was to have been read quite recently). That will give you a gauge next month when they read it. Then you can see if they are on target or not.
And if you call, they may be able to give you a lower amount you can pay until they actually come read the meter. I'd check what your bill was exactly a year ago and use that as a base rate. Tell them you'll pay that much and to get their butts out there to read it next month or else !
And FYI . . . we have parrots but also turn our heater down to 55' at night. The house rarely gets down that far and only takes a bit to warm back up in the AM. I just set it to go on about 10 min. before we get up.
