Cathlete
i will be going to hawaii the second week of july and am wondering if any of you have any recommendations/suggestions to help my bf and i plan our visit. He has been looking at turtle bay on the island of oahu, but we are open to any suggestions as neither of us has been.

thanks in advance!

We're going in August so I would love to get some input too!:)

P.S. After seeing Forgetting Sarah Marshall I would LOVE to stay at the Turtle Bay Resort. I keep mentioning it my DH...

Hawaii...................is breath-taking!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy every second of it! You can't do anything wrong there. Do as much as you can but make sure to relax and enjoy the beauty of it all too!

If you get to Maui, try to see the sun rise from the peak of Haleakala and then bike down the mountain. That was fantastic. We also loved the Big Island. The hot malasatas at Tex's were to die for.

>Which island(s) are you visiting?

we don't know yet. we're staying for about 7-8 days, so however much we have time for.

Oh, there's too many places to suggest for only one week. You're going at the ideal time of year to visit Kauai's north shore, I would make an effort to go there.

The only suggestion I have is that you find a way to take me with you. :) I've never been but it's on my list. I'm envious. :p

I went to Maui a few years back and second some else's suggestion of Tex's. I don't suggest taking the Hana highway if you are at all prone to motion sickness!!! It was beautiful though.

Hi Lorie,
I live on Oahu. We have lived in Hawaii for 15 years and have spent time on all the outer islands. What would you like to know?

Sarah

I agree!!! DH and I were there at this time last year at Ke'e and swam w/ more turtles than we could count on the opposite side of the reef - it was a nirvana of colorful sea life. There is also fabulous hiking terrain and views at Waimea Canyon. But like someone else had mentioned, it's Hawaii!!! You just can't go wrong no matter which island you choose!

Have a great time. :)

sarah,

at this point, i'm not sure what i want to know because i know hardly anything about hawaii. i am pretty sure bf has decided upon staying at turtle bay (i think it's in oahu?). i would love to hear your thoughts. i tried to pm you, but didn't see that as an option on your profile. if you would, could you pm me? i would love to hear your thoughts on things to do. hey! maybe we coudl meet up for a hawaii cathe gtg? :)

anyone who wants to stow away in my bag is welcome!!!

I don't know how anyone can go to Hawaii without stopping to visit Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial....

Hi Lori!

I'm on Oahu as well. What kinds of activities do you like to do? Hike?

One of my favorite places is Kailua Beach & Lanikai Beach. There is a short hike to Lanikai Bunkers (used during WWII to watch the coast). http://www.lotsafunmaps.com/details.php?locationid=31

Makapuu Beach is also beautiful. Sea Life Park is across the street and there is a nice ocean view scenic hike up to Makapuu Lighthouse down the ways. I live about 5 minutes from this area. The hike is very easy - it's hardly a hike, it's paved. But it is fun and easy with a spectacular view. http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/hiking_and_camping/makapuu_lighthouse.htm

There are many beautiful hikes here - I don't get out enough. I live less than a mile from Sandy Beach, and ran there only once! Too rough for me to swim, but a very beautiful walk or run! http://www.aloha.com/~lifeguards/sandy.html

There is shopping at Ala Moana shopping center - (I think it is the biggest outdoor mall). My office is a three minute walk from Ala Moana center. Come visit me - I'd love to meet a Cathelite! http://www.hawaiilogue.com/ala-moana-shopping-center.html

Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial is a must visit as well! You can swim with dolphins on the Leeward Coast.

The outer islands are beautiful as well. I love Kauai - The Garden Isle - Very lush vegetation. Hike into Kalalau Valley! Definitely not for the faint a heart!!! http://www.kalalautrail.com/info.htm

Or visit the Waimea Canyon. http://www.hawaiiweb.com/Kauai/html/sites/waimea_canyon.html

Or visit Maui - The Valley Isle. See the Iao Needle.

Or Enjoy the Big Island of Hawaii and see the active volcano!

Let me know if you have any questions. Have Fun! Edie

Hi Edie,

Wow! I'm staying in the hotel directly across for that mall for the next two weeks! It's nice to see that there are Catheites out here! Perhaps we can get together to say hi while I'm in town?

Lorrayne

Hi Lorrayne! I just sent you an email. Let me know here if you don't receive it. I would love to meet you! Edie
