Have you ever had

JMFRANE

a groin pull? I think I have pulled a muscle in my groin. It is painful to raise my leg or even walk. Just wondering if anyone as any suggestions besides resting and how long before it heals. I know I have to rest but boy is it hard. Since I can't do any cardio, maybe, I will finally get that bicep vein :)

I really do not know what do to other then rest. Just wanted to say that I did that once about 8 years ago ice skating and I'll never forget it. I can remembering sitting all day at work and it still hurting. I may not be any help but I can relate. So take care.Karen

Are you feeling the pull in the adductor or the hip flexor? I have very tight inner thigh muscles and I tweak my occasionally. Once you are sure it's healing, take extra care to strengthen the offending muscle. it may be you pulled it because it's opposing muscles are stronger and that's not uncommon with the groins. I hope you heal well and soon!

Thanks all for your responses. I think it might be the hip flexor. Sleeping is so uncomfortable, which seems strange to me, because I thought laying down would be resting the problem. When I get up and walk a little it seems to help just a tad. So, stretching might be the trick. I'll give it a few more days then I guess I'm off to the doc.

For me usually warming up first and then doing a lot of stretching is helpful. Did you impliment some rest, ice the first day? If very painful go see a doctor. I have never had to do this. Just reading up on what to do and implementing it has worked for me. Sometimes just some light cardio and stretching will help loosen up the tightness & soreness. I wouldn't weight train the area for awhile. Usually it will resolve itself. Go back to what you were doing when you attained the injury slowly.

Resting is good so is a nice long hot bath,

Pulled muscles take a awhile to heal, especally in that area because it's always moving, but on the other hand, don't just sit down. Do some very slow walking, and keep it active, if you sit down, the muscle will heal but it will be very weak and will in general cause you more pain when you do try to use it. So get up ans walk around for at least 3 minutes straight every 2 to 3 hours.

As for stretching I wouldn't recommend it. A pulled muscle is a muscle you stretched beyond it's limit with or without weights, involved. So going and stretching it some more, is generally not the best medicine.

But do take a long bath, and do try to get some epsion salt or sea salt and sprinkle it in, this will help relax all your muscles and will take some of the soreness away, from the pulled one.

Also if its possible take a mild muscle relaxer like Advil. but do make sure to read the bottle and check to make sure your not allergic if you never taken it before. And if the pain is too much go head for some tylonel, but do not take advil and tylonel together, you can take one, but the weight 6 hours to take the other one. So decided which one to take the first time, if you make the wrong choice you are stuck for 6 hours.

Good luck and I wish you very speedy healing,

Kit

Yes I've had a hip flexor strain. The physiotherapist showed me exercises to stretch this area. One is called the clam (that's what she called it) You lay down on your side with your knees flexed and lift the top knee up and down then switch sides. It hurts initially but it eventually stretches out the areas. I also had to sleep with a pillow in between my legs which helped my knees also.

The first time I did HSTA, I think those danged straddle taps did me in @ that step height. I was hurtin' for several days & had to take it easy. I rarely have those type of injuries or pains, but that really reminded me how easily I could overtrain & hurt myself AND be out of commission for a few weeks.
