Have you ever done a "colon cleanse"?

RE: Have you ever done a

Ok this thread scared the heck out of me. My grandmother also died from colon cancer so knowing that I try to live healthy and eat as healthy as I can. I only eat high fiber cereal, brown rice, whole wheat bread, fruits and veggies, etc. The carbs that I eat are from high fiber sources. I drink tons of water and I have BMs at an average of twice a day. (once a day if it is a slow day and three times if it is better than average --ok this subject is cracking me up but we're mature adults that care about our overall health--). I think that's pretty good, but I'm also 26 so I don't know if that will change with time. I eat tons of fish and white meat so that parasite story of course freaked me out!!! I've never even considered using any kind of laxative because I think I don't need it. Do any of you think I could benefit from a colon cleanse?

RE: Have you ever done a

Just because both of your grandmothers died of colon cancer doesn't mean you will die from it. What was her eating habit? Did she eat enough fruits and veggies? Did she go to the bathroom everyday?

I thought about colon cleansing myself but I asked my doctor first and she was against it. She said it's not healthy for you and can permantely damage your linings. She said it doesn't matter how harsh or gentle the herbal supplement is. It still can damage your insides. Other things play roles in colon cancer and any other cancers i.e smoking, working in factories without protection, very fatty food all the time, etc....

I even saw on the news saying people should not go for colon cleansing. They said it can be very dangerous. I agree. I wouldn't do it. I do get constipated at times but I eat very healthy now and have 1-3 BM a day now. I don't feel bloated or anything anymore. You might want to look into your eating, too. Exercise helps a great deal.

Also, I found this cereal that has 10 grams of fiber per bowl and it's pretty good compared to other chalk dust I've eaten. It's called Back to Nature Optimum Zen. I started eating it a few days ago for the first time and I've been VERY regular since then. You can find it in your grocery store in the organic section or a health food store.

Another thing is it's sort normal for elderlies to get cancer or heart disease in their 60's, and 70's because their immune system is weak. I don't know how old your grandmothers were. My uncle died of colon cancer, too. He didn't eat healthy and this is sick....He would hold his poop in so he didn't have to stop working. He was a workaholic. And the doctor thinks he got cancer, too from the shots when he was in the Army. They had some experimental shots back then. Sick sh*t if you ask me.

I think I was born constipated. Sometimes 5 days would pass and nothing. Going to the bathroom used to be a major issue and I would be in the bathroom like 25 minutes just trying to go. Drinking more water abd eating more fruit has really helped.

One of my friends told me about this product with senna and I drink as a tea every morning and I finally go once a day. And when I do go, it's really quick! Not the painful struggle it used to be.

I really wish I would have heard about this when I was a kid. To think back about all the stomach aches and headaches....

I think the best you can do is make an informed decision. Many doctors are against cleanses.

One of the major disadvantages of an enema is that nothing is meant to go "up there" so if you start shooting wam water into your colon, you can tear or do other damage to the lining.

Certainly a healthy diet is key to colon health as is a colonoscopy. But think about how you ate as a kid or a young adult. I am certainly guilty of indulging "bad foods" even though I know better and I wonder what affect this has had on my digestive system.

RE: Have you ever done a

I would say if anyone is having problems with constipation, they should address this with their doctor. I did this and had a problem which led to surgury. So much better than sucking down tons of fiber and senna laxative. I spent 2 years taking Perdium in the yellow can as advised by my doctor, till I finally said go ahead and do surgury. It was not pleasant. I would urge people to try dietary changes, and if that does not work seek the help of a medical professional.
