Have anyone used body wraps?

I know this is not the way to lose weight or inches, but I would like to know if it actually is effective for detoxifying and toning the skin. What are your experiences with body wraping?

Hi Mariela,

Personally from my experience as a qualified Beauty Therapist is that body wraps are great for a special occassion, such as a wedding, anniversary, family party, etc, as they are only beneficial for short term use.
You usually need three sessions in a week to get maximum results, in the meantime, drinking water and detoxifying foods, to flush out the system.
Basically the active ingredients in the products used in the body wrap treatment, are there to make you pee more and tone the skin, so you lose immediate inches. But and there is always a but, once you go back to the normal you, the inches come back.
IMO, stick to your healthy, clean lifestyle, keep working out and if you want something to tone the skin, invest in a Professional salon product range of bodycare. This would be exfoliating the skin twice a week (which will allow maximum product absorption), and applying a 'firming' cream to the problem areas, once to twice a day.
Another good thing to do, which isn't expensive is to dry body brush the skin twice a day, using a hand held SOFT bristled body brush. You can eliminate a pound of waste in a month from dry body brushing morning and evening.
Holding the brush, use light sweeping movements in the direction of the heart, starting at the feet, work your way up to the thighs, over your butt and tummy, always in the direction of the heart, again start at the wrists and work your way up your arms, again in the direction of your heart.
It is wonderfully stimulating for the skin, makes it soft and supple, and illiminates nasty toxins from the body. Lots of people swear by it, especially good for anyone with cellulite.
It must be done on a dry skin, before a shower.

Hope this was of some help

Anna

PS: Body wraps are expensive !

Thanks for the tips! Yes, bodywraps are expensive, that's why I asked. I had heard before about the brushing technique but didn't know it was really effective.

I had two pregnancies (two deliveries) and the skin below my bellybutton is still very stretched and the stretchmarks are big and wrinkled. But the worst of all, are my breasts. They became huge when I was breastfeeding (and I had mastitis also) and now their skin is so loose and wrinkled, with stretchmarks, of course! I also have cellulite. I am NOT overweight. It's been 15 months since my last pregnancy.

I know about a lotion that promises improvement on the stretchmarks but, what would be a good one for exfoliation, so that the other is better absorbed by the skin? Or do the brushing thing makes the trick?

My husband is in the Army, and I won't be able to see him (in person)for a year. During that year I will dedicate to take care of my body, my skin, and my hair, as well as my daughters, and my inner self, so when he sees me again, he will meet a "new and improved Mariela". LOL!

Another question. Do I have to wash the brush everytime I use it so it is clean the next time I use it?

I have one of those brushes made for washing the back. It is made of natural fibers.

Hi Mariela,

No, you don't have to wash the brush each time, as long as you don't share the brush with anyone. To a certain extent the dry skin body brushing will exfoliate the skin, but I think it is more luxurious ( and will make you feel better) to do also an exfoliating treatment on the skin. All you need is a basic body scrub (and as far as your budget will allow you), or if you want to be really extravagant, look out for a dead sea salt body scrub (made with natural vegetable oils and dead sea salt) which is heavenly (Origins make good ones but they are expensive).
When using the dry skin body brush technique, use light stroking movements, and don't worry if the skin takes on a red blush, this just shows that it is stimulated.
Your brush sounds fine, just make sure it is very soft and not harsh.
It is something that you must do on a regular basis. And, i recommend a bit of home pampering on your rest days, because it makes you feel great. Have a long bath, moisturise everywhere, and make sure you look after your nails and feet (important to look after the feet, as they take a lot of pounding from high impact aerobics !). Change your toe nail polish every week on your toe nails and invest in a toe ring. Feet look wonderful if they are pampered and looked after.
Just making slight adjustments to your beauty regime can make you feel much better and I think they go hand in hand with your healthy lifestyle and exercise. Let me know how you get on.
Also, I don't know whether you have a local Sephora store (they are dotted all over America, or check out their website), you should find everything you need under one roof. I 'discovered' Sephora after a recent trip to New York, and wish we had something similar in the UK !

Hope this answered your questions Mariela. I am sure you will look fantastic for DH. Phew ! a year is a long time, do you get to talk to DH regularly over the phone and by e-mail ?

Any other beauty queries, please don't hesitate to ask me !

many thanks

Anna

Hi Mariela,

Forgot to answer these questions - sorry !
For hair care, check out Aveda, an American brand but absolutely fantastic !
The skin on your tummy, again should improve through the use of a specific 'firming' body lotion (Decleor or Clarins are good brands), in fact any moisturising should help the tone of the skin, and the dry body brushing certainly will.

Thank you very much! Of course I will take care of my feet and nails. My DH and I will see each other by teleconference (camera). We have done it before. We are so devoted to each other. Some people cannot believe it.

Again, thanks for the advise.

I've haven't had one, but my friend got one at a place specializing in them. She thought it'd be relaxing, but it wasn't. They weighed and measured her, wrapped her up (which made her feel sweaty, gross, and uncomfortable) and made her exercise for a little bit (no idea why- maybe to sweat off inches?)
She said she might've been a tad thinner, but she was back to her usual size by the next day. For her, it wasn't pleasant at all and not worth all that money. You could get a personal trainer session and a massage for the same amount!
