Has this Cathe Forum Changed?

Granted i don't visit as much as i used too, or contribute, but ... has any one else noticed (those that have been on here years) this this forum has changed? A while back you'd post something and it would be on the same page for a couple of days, now, in under a day your messgae can be gone, because so many new messages are being posted. Kinda sad. You'd post something, get replies, and then the topic would either end or continue or get closed! Now it seems so many new topics, not many answers.

i think there are so many new forum members..thanks to fit tv etc. i find the number of people and posts refreshing!! i am sorry you feel that way;(

Wayne, I think it is because of FitTV that we have sooo many new members. I remember when I was new that I posted all the time. (Ha! THAT never changed, did it??) I guess we'll share our Cathe with others, eh?

I wasn't trying to say that new people shouldn't come. Far from it, it just seems that posts just don't stay around anymore. And thats kinda sad, or that post just don't seem to get (in my opinion) the replies they deserve.

Wayne~I didn't take it that you didn't want new memebers. I just meant because of all the new members that the posts just keep multiplying. I also have had a hard time keeping up with all the posts and being able to "mark" them as red. I don't have as much time here like I used to either so that puts me MORE behind. Sorry if I offended you. (HOPE you see this before it ends up on page 2! :7)

Another thing that's changed IMHO, is the safety factor. A couple of years ago, people would be flamed for talking about things that a majority of other members did not approve of.

I find the current forum members much more open minded and tolerant. I like it :)

I noticed that, too. That's why I've also changed my forum habits. Used to be I'd check Open Discussion first. Now I check the DVD section first, then Ask Cathe, then Rotations. I come here for the fitness and nutrition threads, and sometimes those are buried in Open Discussion because, as you say, threads don't stay up for long anymore. And I don't have so much time like I used to to open almost every thread to see if there's more in it than what the subject says. I know that membership is climbing, and there are more folks who come in to chat off-topic (and I do join in sometimes) but my first priority is knowing more about what I'm doing and hopefully succeeding in it, so my surfing habits had to change.

Pinky

I agree with Pinky. There is so much off topic discussion in the open discussion thread anymore that I don't visit that thread that much because I have to hunt for fitness/nutrition info and questions. I stick with the Cathe and DVD threads mostly now. But I don't begrudege new members, but I agree with Wayne that the tone and style of the Cathe forums has changed significanlty over the past few weeks. Maybe Cathe can start a fitness/nutrition/well being forum for us.

I think adding a few more forums would help.

Nutrition would be a good one. Also maybe a Check In Forum for people on certain rotations or challenges.

Dawn

I agree it has changed. For example, now members are sharing pictures, something that was very rare a couple of years ago.

But that's the purpose of the "open" forum: to discuss whatever anyone want to discuss. I always think it's odd when someone puts
"OT" in the title of a thread there, because NOTHING is off-topic.

Hi, I never said to limit the Open Discussion thread. I merely commented that there has recently been a preponderance of non-fitness related material there recently making it difficult to find fitness related material and suggested that perhaps another thread could be added that is only health and fitness related.

Thanks for responding guys. I think it would be great to have a nutrition forum. That would be very cool, and filter alot.

Debbie, no lovely, i didn't think that you were being offensive. I honestly cannot remember a single thread that i've read that you've replied to when you've been anything other than nice.

Hi Everyone,

First, I want to stress that I don't think that this thread is meant to be unwelcomomig in any way. I enjoy the infusion of new topics and points of view. I also feel that it is perfectly ok for people to discuss the changes that the forum is going through. There are reasons that this forum has worked well over the years. Discussing the current changes can identify the good changes and help maintain the best of the forum.

I also noticed that the discussion forum is moving very fast. There are a lot of new members and they are getting to know each other as well as looking for help :7. Getting to know one another is good for the board. However, the speed of the board has caused people to post their fitness question where they feel they will be noticed. .

I agree that it can be very time consuming to get to the fitness topics lately. The open discusion area used to be used more for open discussion mainly about fitness topics. Other instructors were talked about but check-ins for other instructor's workouts were not done here. I don't know how I feel about this since this site is paid for by Cathe & company. I don't want the cost of the board to be passed on to us (like many other sites). Also, I feel it would be easier if posters would take the time to look at the current forum descriptions & place their posts according to the forum. I like helping people and discussing various topics but sometimes I'm just short on time. I would like everyone's experience here to be helpful as well as fun. This is why I feel that posting in the proper place is best.

I also, notice the amount of bumping. I think everyone's post is important, & well, sometimes posts are excessively bumped even before there has been time to respond.

I know this sounds like a lot but I really mean it as constructive suggestions.

One more thing to all the new begginer members is to be very careful of form, impact, & intensity. Remember, Cathe is an advanced instructor. I feel that there are a lot more people with less exercise knowledge and old injuries posting. This brings up red flags, for me, when handing out recommendations & advice.

If any of this was misinterpreted as just wrong x( , it wasn't meant that way. Please ask me to clarify before getting offended. I do want this to continue to be a healthy place :) .

Thanks for allowing me my say,
jordan

I hear you Wayne. The very same thing happened to my old running club. It got very big after a merge, and the runners who preferred the smaller, more intimate, practically only running related stuff were somewhat surprised by the fast change. I'd love to have a nutrition forum too!

Hi Wayne, as a 5mth "newbee" I had to respond

First of all, I agree that the Forum has changed in the time I have joined, but to me its been for the BETTER!. Everyone seems so more open and relaxed whereas before, some people came across as very stiff and emotive (not to offend anyone)

We have alot more "lurkers" coming out to share and be encouraged to post because this "forum" has such a good vibe happening now, and I think people posting their pics has been awesome in a very "positive" way to show and encourage each other to plough forward in their goals.

Some posts only require 1 or 2 replies...........why flog a dead horse?.......so once answered, it is time to move on. I would find it boring to log in and find things havent progressed very much in a couple of days. Anyway, is it a big deal to go back a page and read posts you may have missed over night? You can also "bump" it back if you wish to add your point on the subject.

I dont see THAT many posts happening, that disappear without a answer, and if they do, maybe its because NO ONE has an answer, or an answer wasnt expected. People like to just share a frustration just to feel better about having said it allowed (so to speak) I also find other discussion groups such as the VF moves very quickly in the day, as do others Im sure.

OT's dont bother me at all. Heck! Ive started some myself, because Im interested in other people live styles, habits and ideas. And some of them have just been for FUN, and to give everyone a smile or laugh for the day.

Maybe you feel this "forum" has got to "girly" Wayne?. If so, thats just a biproduct of Cathes consumers, and thus will reflect in the posts coming up. No one here purposely wants to make it sex biast to you or Dave, and any other male of the group.

Again I say, I LOVE the change in this forum, and I hope we send of so many good and positive vibes, that MANY MORE people join in. I would really hate this Open Duscussion to become soooooo restrictive or make anyone feel restricted, that the "newbee" participants return to "lurking"

Thank you for listening

Marion
