Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Shelley - I cannot stand Gambon either. He was a pathetic replacement for Richard Harris. Why they didn't go with Ian McKellin I'll never know. Gambon almost ruined the entire series for me.

My kids say I HAVE to respond to this post. We're very excited! I loved the first 2 movies. We all hated the direction and the new Dumbledore in the 3rd and 4th movies--so much so that I had no desire to see #5 (as it was the only book of the series that I didn't particularly care for). But I loved the 5th movie! The characters were absolutely PERFECT (besides Gambon--but even he was better). Luna and Umbridge were brilliant. So I have hopes that this movie will be good, too. But I wish Ian McKellin could have been Dumbledore.

Shelley--What age did Sophie start reading the books? I want to get my oldest reading them as soon as he's the appropriate age. We're going to read them together THEN watch all the movies. I can hardly wait!!!

I'm excited!! So excited that every work day this week (has it ONLY BEEN 2 WORK DAYS??? AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH why does it never end??) has felt like it goes on FOREVER. Umm...not really different from normal, now that I think of it.

Anyway, I really LIKE Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. I thought he brought a sprightly weirdness to the part that I definitely saw in the character when I read the books. I liked Harris, too, but he was a bit more "classic wizard" - not that there's anything wrong with that, but I liked that Gambon brought a little something unusual to the Harry Potter party.

My boyfriend prefers Harris. We engage in lively discussions about it every time we watch any of the movies.
