Hardest/Favorite Barre workout

Stacy

Cathlete
I'd like to do a few weeks of something different than Cathe. What are your favorite barre dvds? I'm not interested in streaming, but not opposed to a favorite, free youtube workout.

I like Barre 3 (one of the instructors is annoying but generally they are very thorough workouts. I personally find the core work quite challenging), The Bar Method/Burr (my fave is the fat free dvd), Linda Woolridge (she is pretty new to the scene, has some free youtube workouts where her triceps ones are really challenging and I've bought a couple of her upper body workout downloads which are excellent), Leah Sarago (has very good and some advanced individual downloads) and Erin Hatlestad on youtube. Jennifer Galardi is okay, although I haven't tried a good many of her workouts.
(I should note though that I mainly use barre-type workouts for core mainly and to a degree for upper body (my shoulders really like it). I don't like most of them for lower body. I like pilates supine work to activate and work gluteus minimus and medius especially when I am walking long distances and I find some barre as long as the reps are low, useful to train the psoas, especially the pectineus, but my lower body responds better with less strain to traditional weighted work.)

I love seat work :) Anything lower body barre :D I am a sucker for a good burn. If you like UB try SBF, she does a lot of planks/pushups.

What's SBF? o_O ;)

I do find it interesting and weird, lol, that most women I know like barre/floor barre stuff so much for lower body but for me, it causes too much strain & just doesn't "do" a whole lot for my legs. My legs just respond best to Cathe (and incline walking).

Linda Wooldridge has the most interesting and TOUGHEST barre inspired workouts I've ever done. I generally don't enjoy barre workouts all that much. I do have Tracey Mallet's dvds as well as Ballet Body by Leah Sarago but it's not a love fest even though I like them okay. Linda Wooldridge and her Barlates Body Blast is a total love fest, however! :) Her two dvds are awesome and I use the lower body segments often to pre-fatigue my glutes before doing the Edge Booty Extreme 2 workouts. You can get them at TF: https://www.totalfitnessdvds.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=linda+wooldridge She also has a youtube channel with TONS of free, but excellent, workouts: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGmJMvoQfsmXgnnsmfF95PA and she sells downloads as well: http://www.workoutdvdworld.com.au/

I agree, I bought Linda's two workouts because I wanted something different. Wasn't expecting much. These two workouts are excellent, and I like Linda. Thanks for the info on the youtube channel. Will definitely check it out. I also like the two workouts from The Ballet Physique. Amped Up, and Signature Sculpt. Amped Up, is my favorite of the two.

I just saw this that she posted today:

She is coming out with a new 3 dvd set for upper body, lower body and core and will be selling them at totalfitnessdvds.com. I can't wait! ;)

The toughest barre workouts I've done lately are from Pure Barre. It's their latest series called Pure Results. There are four DVD's with each one focusing more on a specific area...abs, seat, thighs and arms...but still giving you a total body workout. These folks do not mess around, it is tough stuff! These really are pure, focused barre workouts with none of the cardio or manic pace of some other types such as P57 (which I like as well when I'm in the mood for that fast pace). The DVD's are super expensive on Amazon so it's best to order them right from the Pure Barre website for normal prices.

Carrie is Pure Barre, right? I was disappointed withl her "Denver" series. (Mile High, 16th street, Flat Irons etc.) So, I will definitely check these out. Always love a tough barre workout! Thanks for the heads up, Jodi!

Yes, I read a lot of negative reviews of the older DVDs....not long enough, production quality was not great. This series seems to fix all of those issues.

Glad you mentioned PSOAS work, Elsie--- I need to work it as it helps me execute better ROM for deep squat.
When I was dancing frequently my hip girdle was more mobile:(:( Grrr. I should have realised that earlier!!!Time to do something about it!
