Hardcore Rotation Checkin for Monday Nov 21

Cathlete
Morning Everyone -

I only had time for P90 Masters Core Cardio, as I have a doctor appt today and have to be at work really early. I get my stress fracture x-rayed today.

I feel like a fat blimp today. I ate cookies and chocolate over the weekend and I must be retaining water, as my weight has been up 5-6 pounds the last couple of days and I know you can't gain that much weight in a couple of days. I think I'm midcycling. Does anyone else here retain water when they're midcycle? I never used to but I have been for the last few years. Must be a midlife thing.

By the way, that little test on the treadmill was wicked yesterday. My husband had the incline all the way up. I took it down a level. This is going to be good for cross training, as I can tell my body isn't used to this form of exercise.

Have great workouts everyone.

Hello Everyone,
Today I did shape it up :D I feel good!!

Lora I think you are right!! Using your treadmill will be a great way to cross train!! Enjoy!!

Diane Sue thanks for the info. on the jolie weights!! They look interesting!! Do you know why they are discontinuing them???

Well gotta go quick take dd to school!!

Be back later!!

~Nicole

Happy Monday all and thank goodness it is a short week :) I am hopeful that today Tear it Up will arrive. IF so I will do that and I also want to do a run today.

Lora-Good luck with the Dr. sppt this afternoon. I am sure you are going to love the treadmill. I know that I love mine.
Nicole-I have been doing a couple hours or more a day for some time now. Therefore I do not really feel overtrained yet from adding SS. I will though if I don't take a rest day soon. I think I will take ones as soon as thanksgiving is over:) I won mix it up on e-bay now too! So he only one I am missing is cool i down. How important is that one? Is it just stretching?
Dallas-You should take pictures of your tree! I hope you are feeling better.
Marietta-How was your weekend?
Sabrina, Susan, Diane Sue-Hope all is well with you guys.

Be back Later

Terri

Terri so did you get firm it up to? You go GIRL!! Ha ha... I like cool it off it has some really good spinal erector work. (It is a hour long though) I remember Debbie posting that she really FOUGHT for this to become a dvd. She thinks it is really important to do this one. I have really been working on stretching more because for some reason I have been tighter in my legs while doing this rotation, and the stretching has really helped!!

Hello ladies,

Today I did L&G, then lower body chapter of The Bar Method (borrowed from Netflix).

Lora, a treadmill is excellent for cross training; especially when most cardio is Step. What is 90 Masters?

Nicole, no, no name decided yet. No one I know is any help either. Right now I like the names Colin and Loren. Last month I liked Daisy. Any suggestions?

Dallas, sorry I have no idea how to catch a coyote. I wouldn't let the kids out either. That's really scary. I'd probably shoot it. I know that sounds mean. Did you get the jollie weights?

Terri, for as long as you train, it will be a BIG switch going from Slim Series to Cathe's SH. How long would you do SH for?

Diane Sue, Yatzee Poker sounds fun! I've played Yatzee before, what's the difference with Poker added?

Hi Marietta and Sabrina.

:D

Morning ladies!

Lora-I hope you get good news from your Doctor! I hope you like your treadmill. I really like mine. I hate being out in the cold.

Dallas-how are you feeling?

Terri-No I didn't get your address yet. I wish the CD would get here soon. I hate waiting for things. I am waiting for my new workouts too. I am hoping to get them this week.

Hi to everyone else!! I have to get some reading time in today. It would be nice to get in a workout too but I am not sure that will happen since I have class tonight and my mom is suppose to stop by today too. Plus I have 50 million other things to do too. lol

I will check in again later! Have a great day!!

Hey Susan I just emailed you!! It got to long so I copied and pasted it:D

Dallas I agree with Susan KILL that coyote }(

~Nicole

Good Morning and Happy Monday!!

The weekends just fly by don't they?? My weekend workouts were as follows:

Saturday - 3 mile run on treadmill, High Step Challenge
Sunday - 8 mile run on treadmill
Today - Kick Max (cardio blast X2 and 3 combos). I'll do some sort of cardio at lunch today...

Lora - Hope your doctor appointment goes well. As you can tell I LOVE my treadmill...don't know what I'd do without it.

Nicole - The Jolie weights do look interesting...I am the gadget queen...I have to resist!!

Terri - I hope you get your new workout today...how far are you gonna run? I need to take a rest day too...maybe on Thanksgiving, but I won't make any promises...that's the main day I really need to workout because of all the food I'll be eating...what's a girl to do? My weekend was very nice...I was busy but not overwhelmed like I somtimes get so I can't complain at all.

Susan - What is the bar method? I like the names you have picked out....there was a really cute girl name that I like, but now can't think of it...if I do I'll let you know.

Sabrina - Sounds like you have a wonderful opportunity awaiting once you're done with school..that's awesome! Congratulations!

Dallas - Heard you were not feeling too good...hope you are getting back to normal.

Hi Diane Sue!!

I'll be back later...

I'm sneaking a little peak here. My boss stepped out for a moment.

Susan - Power 90 Masters is supposed to be at the level between Power 90 and P90X. It's going to be a series of DVD's from Beachbody, but so far, they've only released Plyo Legs & Core Cardio. Tony leads the DVDs and if you don't like Tony, you probably won't like them. I like Tony, or should I say -- Tony doesn't get on my nerves. Core Cardio is bouts of cardio interspersed with ab exercises. I think it's fun and I like it, however, I do aerobics whilte he explains moves, otherwise, it would be too slow moving.

Sabrina - Did you get a chance to preview that YBB tape yet? I was just curious to see what you thought about it.

What's eveyone asking for for Christmas?

Lora-Sorry I have not. I have not seen one workout in weeks. I am going to have to find some time. I am stressed! lol There is too much going on here.

There will be no Christmas for me since I have to have so much money to start work. Lots of things I have to pay for. That is fine though.

I will be back later.

I don't know what I'm going to ask for. I already pre-ordered the Cathe workout and have everything thing from her I want right now. I may ask for some of those workouts that Lora and Nicole are raving about...I just need to figure out exactly what to put on my wish list...

I'm a gadget girl so I've got just about every gadget there is...I may ask for a new armband radio because mine has a short in it. I don't run with them, but when I'm working out at work I like to wear them because it keeps me from being distracted.

Decisons...decisions.

Hi again,

Marietta, Bar Method is a workout that does not use any weight, you do only a few reps of squats, hip thusts and so forth, holding onto a support/chair. Not my style. I just thought I'd try it. I did not even look at the ab section. I like Netflix, since I can try other dvd's. Nothing will replace Cathe though. You said you like gadgets...last year I got Platemates for Christmas. I love them! They are expensive (at least for me) so it's a good gift to ask for.

Here is a copy of an article I received in one of my Fitness newsletters:

How to Lose the Most Fat and Build the Most Muscle in 30 Days
by Nick Nilsson

A lot can happen in 30 days… The dream of everyone who trains is to lose maximum fat and build maximum muscle in the shortest period of time possible. While it is definitely possible to both lose fat and gain muscle at the same time, in my experience, the best results come from concentrating on one major goal at a time.

Let me put it this way: to lose fat, you need a caloric deficit. To build muscle, you need a caloric surplus. If you try to do both at the same time, you may just remain exactly where you are!

So the question before us is - how do we maximize both fat loss and muscle gain, two very much opposing goals, in only 30 days?

It’s simple – we focus on both goals in the same program but not at the exact same time!

By alternating rapidly back and forth between reduced-calorie fat loss training and higher-calorie mass-oriented training, you can not only accomplish both goals at the same time, you can ! actually use the two opposing goals to feed on each other and send your results through the roof!

To illustrate my point, remember how quickly you gain weight when coming off a strict diet? Remember how quickly you lose weight when you start to diet and you haven’t been careful about what you’ve been eating? That’s your body rapidly adapting to a stress. One of the most powerful features of this switching back and forth is in the change itself - your body changes far quicker when you give it a powerful reason.

What is the result of this switching back and forth? Extremely rapid fat loss and extremely rapid muscle gain.

To maximize the effects of this switching, you must tailor your training, diet and supplementation towards your specific goal during that particular time. Proper manipulation of these factors will greatly enhance the body’s hormonal response to this program, which is the real key to maximizing your results.

For five days, we will ta! rget everything about your training and nutrition towards fat loss.

·You will reduce your caloric intake below maintenance levels to promote fat burning.
·You will reduce the rest periods between sets in your weight training to increase the intensity of the workload and boost the metabolism.
·You will increase your training volume, performing more sets for each bodypart.
·You will not push your body to muscular failure – pushing to failure can be too stressful to the muscles when on a reduced-calorie diet. Stop one rep short of this point.
·You will include cardio training, preferably High Intensity Interval Training for best results, to burn calories and further boost your metabolism.
·You will NOT take creatine during this time (I’ll explain why below).
·It is best to follow a low-carb diet during this time for maximum effectiveness. Eating this way will be especially powerful when you switch to the next phase of the program.

After five days, your metabolism will be just starting to get used to the training and nutritional program you’re following. Now we’ll throw it a curveball and change everything!

For the next five days, you will be focusing your training, nutrition and supplementation completely on muscle building.

·You will increase your caloric and protein intake to promote gains in muscle mass.
·You will increase your rest periods in between sets to allow for more recovery and increased strength in your sets.
·You will decrease your training volume, doing fewer sets but with greater intensity. This is the time to really push your muscles to the edge! You’re feeding them now, so don’t be shy about training them hard.
·You will eliminate all cardio training in order to maximize muscle gain. Cardio training can burn calories that should be used for the muscle building process.
·You will load creatine for the first three days of the muscle-gain phase. This will take advantage of and greatly enhance the flood of water and nutrients into the muscles.
·You will NOT follow a low-carb diet during this time. We want lots of carbs to provide energy and promote insulin release (the body’s primary storage hormone). This insulin release will help shuttle protein and other nutrients into the muscles to help with building.

The body’s hormonal response to this huge change in training, nutrition and supplementation is tremendous. Sensing a feast after a famine, it will greedily take in all the nutrients it can and store them in the form of glycogen (for carbs), muscle mass (for protein) and fat (to some extent). Since you will only be doing this phase for 5 days, however, fat gains will be minimal so don’t be shy to eat!

It is important to note that you should eat a lot but you should eat clean – loading up on junk food will not give you the best results. You’ve got to provide your body with quality materials to rebuild with or you may not gain as much muscle and you may add too much fat.

After five days of this training, your metabolism will be cranking along, happily building muscle. Now we’ll pull the rug out and go right back into fat-loss training for five days. Since your body is used to getting more food and your metabolism is still movi! ng fast, switching to fat-loss training at this time will immediately result in your body burning far more fat than if you were using a conventional fat loss program.

In 30 days, you will complete three rounds of this rapid-adaptation training. As you will soon experience, this switching back and forth between a short, targeted fat loss program and a short, targeted muscle-building program can have a tremendous and rapid impact on bodyfat and muscle mass levels.

What does this mean for you? It means you can lose fat faster and gain muscle faster, taking FULL advantage of your body’s natural reaction and rapid adaptation to massive change.

Good Morning All!

I feel so much better!!! So, I jumped back into the rotation where I left off. It was HSTA. I've only done just the cardio from that one. Holy Cow! I think I have a new favorite workout! I like the cardio better than HSC. I had to modify the one handed tricep dip. I did 6 and my arms we shaking! }( I'll have to workout my wimpy triceps so I can complete all of those. :)

Tomorrow calls for Rhythmic Step. I have it, but don't want to mess around with the choreography. I've only previewed it once. Any suggestions? Also, Circuit Max will be coming up and I don't have that one either. Help? :)

Lora ~ You'll love your treadmill. Good luck at the dr.

Nicole ~ How's your son? I hope he'll be better for Thanksgiving. Are you cooking?

Sabrina ~ Good luck with your reading and getting everything done!:)

Susan ~ I like your baby names too! Hmm, suggestions? I'll think of some.

Terri ~ I'll take a picture of my tree once we get the ornaments on it. I have a few more "other" decorations to get out and then the house is decorated! I still have the outside to do. I was going to do it yesterday, but was worried about the kids running around while I did lights with the lurking coyote. My MIL just called and this is what they are getting us for Christmas:

http://www.frontgate.com/fg/pdp.jsp?prod_oid=3840201&showarrow=y&category_key=-13832&cursor=15

This will go in our sunroom! Isn't that sweet! I can't wait to get it and put it up.

Marietta ~ Great workouts again! it was killing me not to workout this weekend.

Coyote update: Both neighbors saw coyotes this weekend in their yards. The one neighbor said two were fighting! We recently had construction behind, but not directly behind our house. It must have pushed them into the woods directly behind our house! I'm going to call animal control today for some ideas.

Have a good day! I'll check back later.

Dallas

Susan ~ We posted at the same time. I asked my dh for Platemates for Christmas along with the Original Step, Pure Strength and the Slim Series. I think I remember reading that Pinky made some Platemates. I'll have to do a search on that.

My kids are coming up with "Roadrunner" (you know the cartoon) ideas on how to catch the coyotes. ha ha! I told them I'll just call ACME. LOL!:7 :+

Hey Friends! I made it back today...I've actually been lurking quite a bit today...hmmmm.

Susan - I already have some plate-mates...I've had them for years. Heck I probably got them when they first came out...told you I was a gadget girl...Just call me "GG". Love the article, very interesting concept...I can see how it would be "effective". That article is a keeper. Is Netflix where you can have DVDs sent to you?? Do they have a website?

Dallas - I forgot to comment earlier about the coyotes...I don't have a clue, but like you, I'd definitely keep my kids indoors...sounds like you may have quite a few in the area...be careful. Glad you feel better...being sick sucks!! I love HSTA much better than HSC...I just do HSC because I own it and don't want it to just go to waste. The one-handed tricep dips are my favorite...I know I'm sick like that. As for RS...I thought it was rather difficult at first, but I kept watching it during my treadmill runs and then when I did it, I found that I really like it. I've actually been doing it once a week for the last month. Just do it...and if you don't feel like you got a good workout, just add on CTX all step afterwards...that should compensate pretty nicely. I don't have Circuit Max either...would the CTX circuit workout be about the same...perhaps with some add-ons? I'd love to see your tree too!!

Ta-Ta for now...

Hi ladies,

Well still no tear it up in the mail! I am starting to get mad:( Speaking of mail, Nicole and Dallas I mailed off your cd's this morning. Hopefully they will be there Wednesday but for sure friday I would think.

Marietta-I ran for an hour on treadmill. Not sure how many miles as my display is boken:(
Dallas-I love that tree your MIL is getting you! Very nice :)
Sabrina-I hope you are getting some rest and relaxation in :)
Susan-What are placemates?

Terri

Hey there!

Susan ~ I copied that that article into AppleWorks. I skimmed it, but would like to read the whole thing later. Thanks!

Marietta ~ How do you like the plate-mates? I would think that I would definitely use them. Thanks for the suggestions for RS and the add-on. That will work! :)

Terri ~ Thanks for getting the CD in the mail. I love that tree too. Now I hope I can decorate it like that picture when I get it! ;-) I would like to buy just one more tree now for our family room. My dh thinks I'm nuts for wanting three trees. I love decorating this time of the year!

I finished my x-mas cards! The Christmas photo turned out cute. At least, I got that done over the weekend! :)

Dallas

Afternoon!

Dallas-Love the tree! That was a nice gift.

Terri-I never get any rest! Not with three boys.

Marietta-looks like you got in some nice workouts over the weekend! I hope I can get back into it soon. Thanks for the well wishes too!

Speaking of workouts, I got my Turbo Jam and the Slim Series today from my UPS man. What a great guy! Love to see him! LOL!! Now I just have to find the time to preview them. I was surprised though that the Turbo Jam workouts are all on two DVD's and in one case. I thought they would all be seperate.

I HAVE to go read! I will be back though. ;-)

Hey Dallas - I love my plate-mates. They are perfect when it's time to move up in weights....Going up 5lbs can be way too much sometimes.

Terri - Bummer!! Your workout didn't come...WTH (stands for "what the Heck" - I don't curse)!! I always see people use the "other" acronymn...so I had to come up with one of my own :).

Everybody go check out Diane Sue's new treadmill if you haven't already...it's to die for. I have a treadmill but it's not nearly as nice as the one Diane has...Let's just say mine is a Ford Focus and hers is a Mercedes Benz!!

Have a great evening...
