Hardcore Fitness Maniacs - Weekend

lorajeanne

Cathlete
Is it Saturday??? I think it is!! Not that it means anything to moi!

Morning Maniacs -
I overslept again. Didn't hear my alarm....and finally my DH yelled up at 5:00 am asking me what time I needed to be up! I needed to be up at 4:30! I was not happy. I did Bob's new workout 1 and part of 2. Workout was 55" and I burned 459 calories. Max HR was only 140.

Take the following with a grain of salt, as I have a migraine...was in a bad mood and I've been stressed out and irritable. The first workout......the girl in this workout irritated the shit out of me! I couldn't stand her constant groaning and moaning for goodness sakes. Just take a freakin' break and then continue. I thought someone was freakin' torturing her! She annoyed me.......NOW...to workout number 2 - the guy that did the workout irritated me in a different way! He was bent over sucking air between the weight exercises (several times). I was yellin' at the freakin' TV calling him a wimp and telling him to lift his weights!! Goodness.....men are weak!! HA...just kidding....but us women are better at the endurance stuff! He did not get on my nerves as much as the girl. Anyway, hopefully, I'll enjoy the workout more next time. Maybe I'm just a grouch this morning.

I work day shift the next 3 days. Yay....but 4:30 am is sort of brutal after sleeping later for a few days.

Lori - your post from yesterday regarding the blankie aka Guckie?? touched me. So happy that your son shared that with you. How special. I can sympathize with you on the cramps. I had endometriosis when I was younger, had laser surgery for it. I also have severe varicose veins in my pelvis and had horrid cramps from those. I take megadoses of Advil when I have TTOTM. I'm starting to go thru menopause now...so I don't have TTOTM all of the time......but now I'm just a hormonal freak!! Try Advil next time. The antiprostaglandins in it are the only thing that usually help cramps. Don't be afraid to take 2 at a time! They work!

Hey Ladies-

No workout yesterday as I was at the doc's office until 5 pm. Also, I don't know how much I'll be around during the day anymore b/c work is watching internet usage (not that I blame them) and I would usually check in when the schedule allowed.

Lori-I'm sorry the cramps were so bad for you. My Mom also mentioned a hot water bottle to lay on top b/c the pressure along w/ the heat helps. But that really sucks. I'm glad the boys enjoyed the treats :) You did them right b/c that is about how long they last. I love to hate them :)

Debbie-Fight circuit will be filmed in July and they will have a presale around the 16th. It seems like a lot of equipment will be used but I think they will be fun.

Linda-glad you are back :)

Hermia-how's the wedding planning coming along? I was the worst bride in the world b/c I am not girly AT ALL  and very low key when it comes to that kind of stuff.

I'm sorry if I missed anyone. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll ttyl.

No workout for me today. It's getting real hard to have the motivation to workout on the weekends anymore. I'm not sure why I'm feeling this way. I decided to read for a bit (I'm reading a really good book, actually it's a series, and I can't put it down). By the time I got done it was already 10 and I said screw it.

I'm seriously thinking about taking Sat. & Sun. off but not sure what two days of rest will do. I'm worried about gaining weight and I'm already having a heck of time losing a measley 6 pounds. We'll see. I just had no motivation to workout today.

Hermia - I read that too. Thing is, I'm still employed and have still had a hard time getting another job. I've been looking now for almost a YEAR! It's ridiculous. But I also think that it isn't fair to not hire people who are already unemployed. I actually thought it was the other way around. I thought that's why I haven't been offered any of the jobs I've interviewed for. I honestly figured they were hiring people out of work to get the people back in the workforce. And I was ok with that. Now that I hear about this it only pisses me off.

Diane Sue - Thanks for the link on Fight Circuit. I cannot wait!!!

Linda - Hi girl! Hope you can post again soon!

Hi to everyone else! I hope you all have a great weekend and workouts!!!

Hi - Legs and some cardio scheduled for today. I'm thinking of doing a mix of Muscle Max and Amy's All pump Extreme. I'm still crampy but they are bearable - and seem even moreso (bearable) after yesterday - yeow

Theresa - Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to get a hot water bottle. The "warm Beagle" actually did seem to help. She stayed put right on my lower stomach area and did a really good job, but more intense heat might have been even better. :( about being cut off from talking to us at work. I'm actually really bummed to hear that - hope you'll still find time(s) to check in. Thanks for the info on the new workouts - woo hoo! They sound really good - and for 4 workouts that's a great price. Btw, I am not very girly either. I was hard on my former mother in law. Just my very existence seemed to try her patience. She was actually very high society and feminine - I am none of those things - and I didn't want a bridal shower - we had a couple's barbecue instead. We were just gonna hang out and drink beer and set up the volleyball net. My fiance (at the time) and I rode our bikes there. I wore Chuck Taylor's and an Edgar Allen Poe t-shirt. My former mil was mortified. I really didn't mean to vex her the way I did. The nicest thing she ever said about me was that I was "quaint." But her nose would kind of crinkle up when she said it  - So, wedding stuff, I was none too good at

Lora - Let em have it, girl!!! Your "confrontation" with your workout. I've done that a time or 2. Sometimes I'll scold a certain instructor over their form or a comment or... whatever strikes me at the time. It certainly doesn't hurt anybody and it's a side of me that really doesn't come out very often or anywhere else. Some workouts are just ... annoying - it may be where I'm at or it may just be that the instructor or crew really are just "goofs." Whatever the case, your post made me laugh. There is only one instructor that I just really can't take. I can't even get through her workouts. DS thinks she's hysterical. I think there really just may be something WRONG with her. She is so chipper, I actually find it kind of frightening and too much of a distraction to be able to exercise with her. She's very popular - or at least has been - though. Something about her doesn't do it for me personally. I should have kept one of her workouts around just to use a means to vent. Also, I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was younger, too (also had a procedure done). Last night I was wondering if it can have occasional recurrences or something? Anyway, I took a HANDFUL of Advil at one point  I was in so much pain I just poured some in my palm and swallowed 'em. Not very smart but I didn't care  . Today I will keep it at 2. I have my hormonal freak moments too - a joy to everyone concerned, huh? Fun stuff, this being a girl business. Our plumbing is so complicated. No wonder we're so good at endurance workouts, huh? Speaking of which, hope your day at work goes ok - and fast ;)

Debbie - Hope you have a good weekend and get some steam back.

Hi to everyone else!

Lori

My workout is done and most of the preparation is done. DH just went to pick up the brisket. My grandson helped cut up veggies and salad and swept the patio and stuff for me. This morning I did Hardcore Extreme Hi/Lo Intervals, I forgot how tough the drills are on the Kickmax portion of this one  , 73 minutes and 562 calories burned, Max HR 167. Thne I did Brooks Kettlebell Butts and Guts Express abs w/ the 2.5 min stretch using a 20lb kettlebell 11 min 58 calories, I followed with Amy's Step Challenge 3 Abs #1 and used a 15 and 20lb kettlebell 15 min 86 calories, ending with Step Challenge 3 stretch 13 min 37 calories. Workout time was 1 hr 52 min and total calories burned was 743.
I need to go get cleaned up for company:D The house is almost all painted. Looks great with the darker roof color. They still have to finish the back doors and lattice on the patio, but since we are having this dinner and the wife of the painter is our dispatcher and they will be here for the party they stopped there:)

Lora, hope it is just a mindset or mood thing because I ordered those workout:D I have heard there are good reviews on them. Mine are on the way. At the moment I am worried about the HR if you only got yours to 140?? You usually get awesome burns if a workout is tough. My HR monitor doesn't like me. It pushes me to near death "just kidding" . I talk to the tv as well. Tell them to "give me a break they are over acting or something" . Doubt I would be a good instructer:) I would expect too much out of them ;)

Debbie, I am looking forward to Fight Club. It is my number one workout to look forward to right now. I do have others coming but that is the one I "really want" :D I took two days off on weekends for quite awhile when we used to take our fifthwheel and camp on weekends. I just seemed to be less hungry and I probably made it up with extra cardio. The nice thing is I was careful what I took for eats so I had no choice LOL We did take walks though.

Theresa, I hope the doctor gets all of your problems fixed. As stated to you before, I am sorry that you will not be able to post. You are the second person that recently had that happen that I check in with.

Lori, Muscle Max and All Pump Extreme sound like a good combination:)

Diane Sue - Yes, I was bummed about the HR too, but since there are pushups, burpees, weights and such, my HR doesn't usually climb too much in general with those moves....so I think that's just the kind of workout it is. The girl in the DVD seemed to think it was tough. I did take breaks and not complete all of the reps, but still even if I did do all the reps, I doubt my HR would have got that high with those moves. I might do the cardio one tomorrow...so I'm hopeful that my HR will go higher.

Lori - Okay.........you can't do this to me. What instructor is it that you can't take? Is it Denise Austin? She's the only perky one that comes to mind off the top of my head.

Lora - Ba ha ha  No, I'm sorry, you're right. I was trying to be politely vague - but talking around something without actually saying it isn't fair either. My bad. It's Denise. And like I said, I realize she's very popular - or at least is one of the top names at the Collage site (for example). She's just ... not for me.

Diane Sue - Bet you were happy with that workout  I agree about The Kickmax Drills. They don't mess around. Hope you have a good evening. The new work on your house sounds nice - lattice is so pretty. What color is your roof?

Off to go polish floors

Lori

Lori, I totally thought Denise Austin, too. I can't think of any other instructor whose workouts I simply can't do because the instructor is so annoying. I can think of one I'm borderline on, but Denise...she's really just too much.

I am so lame at wedding planning. It's not like I don't want nice, pretty things, I just don't want to have to go get find them and get them. Not particularly thrilled about paying for them, either, but oh well. =)
I was running errands the other day in one of the towns I teach in, about 35 miles from where I live, and as I got in the car to leave one of the stores, I realized a David's Bridal was right there (by the way, has anyone had any experiences, for good or ill, with them?). I felt like I ought to go in and maybe just browse for a bit. The manager came over right away to greet me and when she found out it was my first time in the store, she said, "Ok, well your first visit usually takes an hour and a half". I was like, No, no, no. Browsing. For five minutes, maybe ten.
Sigh. I guess I'll have to put that hour and a half in sometime, though.

So this morning I went to yoga class for my workout. This one was a middle of the road yoga class...not too slow, not too fast. My pass was about to expire at the studio I occasionally go to (so as to hang out with a friend) and I wanted to use the last session.

Morning Maniacs - this morning I did Bob's 60" cardio workout. Time was 60" and I burned 580 calories. Max HR was 156. Not too great. I got interupted midway through by a phone call from the DH - he wanted me to tell him it's okay to quit his job! Stressed.

The annoying girl is in this workout. I couldn't even watch the screen cuz she grimaced through half of the workout. At least Bob does this workout and he's not just coaching. The guy (I think his name is Zach) is a wimp. He kept bending over sucking air again. I couldn't watch him either. The one other girl in this one (Roxy) is probably the only one that deserves to be in this video. She showed that guy right off!!! I didn't LOVE this workout.

I will surely give these another chance, as I'm still stressed out with a migraine.

The workout is basically kettlebell swings (done with a DB), lots of squatting and squat jumps, burpees and pushups. I'm not sure if I really like this sort of cardio. It was a bit boring to me. I got excited at the beginning when we were warming up and doing punches, as I thought there would be some kickboxing in the workout, but there wasn't any.

Lori & Hermia - I like Denise Austin (ducking). I think it's great that she's devoted her entire life to helping other's get fit. I think she's sort of quirkie and cute! I'm usually pretty tolerant of other peeps....thus why I'm a bit surprised the background exercisers in the new Bob's are getting on my nerves!

Hermia - so - are you getting married? when? I had a tiny wedding. Just my immediate family in the chapel of my church and my sister made my dress for $50. Budget wedding. Didn't have any money and nobody to pay for a wedding! Good luck with the planning. I'm sure it's stressful.

Hi to everyone else.

Yesterday I did Muscle Max legs - included a few lower body segments from APX (hack squats, balancing sticks and the curtsy lunge series - but I subbed in an uneven squat instead of the side lunge to keep the work in the same leg). After that I did a mix of bodyweight plyo intervals 30/10 for 18 rounds (just equaled about 12 minutes) and the 2nd premix from ER 1000. Chest and back today (another blend of exercises from Muscle Max and Apx) and cardio - probably a lower impact kickbox.

Lora - Ah, see? I was afraid to mention who it was for that very reason. Who knows why different people rub us the wrong way - like you said concerning your workout this morning. I do appreciate what she's done with her life - just can't watch her do it  I tend to be uber tolerant, too - so, I don't know what it is. A lot of people like her, though, so it's just a personal reaction - somehow has more to do with me than her. Anyway, you got through YOUR workout with more than one person who got on your nerves - not easy. The interruption from your DH must have been unsettling. Hope you guys can work through this. Too bad the workout wasn't at least 'fun' for you, but you're right - not a whole lot is when you have a migraine. Crud. Hope your day turns around.

Hermia - I was afraid to mention who it was - glad I’m not alone my struggle with her. I understand it’s just my opinion and she‘s obviously popular - or at least was (not sure what she's up to now). She’s sure put out a ton of workouts - people must be buying them. About wedding planning - I‘m sure you are better at it than I was ;) . I hope you aren't being hard on yourself. The best advice I ever got during that time for me (oh so long ago) was to remember what the event is meant to symbolize (a loving union)- and who it‘s for (the two of you). It’s hard not to get caught up in all the rules about how it’s supposed to be - how you should do this and that - what the proper way of approaching each little detail is - but it’s YOURS!!!! You are very creative and obviously bright. This is your creative expression and if you don’t want to spend an hour and a half in a shop - don’t (I say). Hope I’m not out of line in saying all this - it’s just my opinion (again and of course), and in retrospect, I think other people (family members) seemed to forget it wasn’t their memory being created and expected certain things to be done a certain way - for them. I think that’s a shame. Honoring the couple to be wed should be # 1 (imo) and I think that’s best done by stepping back from it. If anyone has any suggestion for how the wedding should be, I’d wish it were just this: however you feel like doing it - that’s the “right” way. Oh listen to me - more “advice.” see? Even your check in friends want to get in on it  forgive me  Glad you got a yoga class in. I think you have a good balance there. I like “challenging” but sometimes I get the most out of the lower key (for my ability) yoga classes - I enjoy them more and settle into them more deeply on a different level.

Waiting for an insurance adjuster. Then hopefully, I can finish my workout before DS gets home.

Have a good day.

Lori

Lol! I think that's why instructors shouldn't change their natural personality when filming a workout...it's all so individual and of course you can't please everyone. Every now and then a certain thing will irk or please people, like an instructor's outfit, a comment, an expression, whatever, but it's not going to bug or please everyone. Mostly I'm just concerned with the workout, but every now and then something rubs me the wrong way. The guy Lora mentioned who always looks like he's about to keel over would probably rub me the wrong way because it sounds like it might be overdone. Like he's trying really hard to (artificially) look like he can relate, like he's right there with the average exerciser about to pass out. But I don't have the workout so I can't say for sure. =)

Furtuer MIL is really nice and has told me many times that it's all about what we want to do with things, and I've already vetoed one of her ideas, which she wasn't at all phased by, but she definitely has more of an idea of what's considered "proper" than I do. There was something we were discussing and she was like, "Well, I need to go home and see what the protocol on that is", lol, so I assume she has at least one reference book at home on wedding etiquette (sp?).

Anywayzers, felt exhausted this morning and skipped church and now off to see fiance's peeps for father's day. Hopefully I'll be able to workout this evening.

No workout today. I was kind of hoping to at least do the yoga from the Bob workouts. Way to many things going on here. Father's day, lots of leftovers from yesterday. I think everyone was afraid to eat since dh set up a contest on weightloss. He teases a lot as they do too. DH is a huge tease. Anyway, since they give each other cheat foods to try to win I really think they thought my healthy meal was not a good choice. Some trusted :D But at least I have Clean Eating Cookbook recipes and some of my own left. I was happy to see a lot chose the ww buns. But now I have lots of white left. Tried to get dil to take them for her birthday party:0 I hope everyone had a fun weekend. Anyone have special plans for the 4th:D

Hermia, just relax. It sounds like you mil has it under control. "Just Kidding" Glad that you vetoed what you did not want. I have found that so many weddings are not traditional. Ask you future dh what he wants if you are not sure. Just don't worry about it unless it is something you really do want. Do not try to please others and wish later that you did it some other way.

Diane Sue -Sounds like you had an incredibly busy (and fun) Sunday. You surely put a lot of work into it. My DS got home from the soccer tourney this evening. He had a great time but his knees are killing him (Osgood Slatter) :( . Thanks to Cathe, I have plenty of Epsom Salts ;) - and ice - and Advil.

Hermia - Sounds like you are right on track - and too, the wedding planning seems like it's giving you an opportunity to build a really cool relationship with your mil. That's a great bonus. Hope you had some time for a workout this evening.

I barely got mine in - just a mix of chest/back from Muscle Max and APX. It's kind of fun pulling these two workouts together in a split. Other than that, today I've just been busy with ... busy-ness  Ever have one of those days? Lots of little things and before you know it, the sun's gone down. I did get to talk to my pop. I've missed him but will get to see him at the beginning of July at a family reunion.

I hope you all had a good day.

Lori
