Getting us started even though I know we started today on May's check in.

My nephew is being released from the hospital today with oxygen and meds. His wife says lots of changes to be made.

Jolie, I posted there too and so did Debbie. I just started the June check in for us after I checked in there. If you want to see what I posted it is in the other check in. :)

Roselyn, thanks.

I will move our posts today here by name:

Debbie
Today I did a Cardio Coach mix I made up myself mixing up a few different workouts from CC. Had a great workout but was hard to get started. I feel like I didn't even sleep last night. I hate when I feel this way.

Workout was 50 minutes, ran 3.22 miles, burned 318 calories and went 6578 steps.

Diane Sue - I'm glad your nephew is doing better, how scary. I just think Cathe took more time with her earlier workouts because the newer ones just seem rushed, the music doesn't go with their movements (especially in the warmups), the music sucks (imo) and I just see a cheaper made product. Workouts are still good, but all that little stuff make a difference to me.

Jolie - I am lucky, I seem to be able to get away with eating carbs. I eat them all day long. I love my oatmeal in the morning and have pasta a few nights a week for dinner. I guess it's just how our bodies process carbs. Mine seem to like them.

Roselyn - I've been wanting to do Muscle Max as well. Love that workout.

Jolie
No workout yesterday, my mom came to visit so I spent the time with her instead. :) She is going to Las Vegas so I did her hair color and cut so she would look fabulous.

Todays workout was upper body. I did two Cathe live workouts, both short so It ended up being 1 hour and 15 minutes. I did Barbell Upper Body and Express Upper Body. I did two because I wanted to get a better workout and hit all sides of the muscle. Each workout does different exercises so it worked out well. I burned 465 calories.

I am loving these workouts, the only thing is you have to lift lighter weights because there are so many reps, super sets and Giant sets. It feels great to shock the body, mine doesn't know what to expect which is good. I am leaning out a little, loosing the mass I had built up during the winter.

Diane Sue, I will pray for your nephew!

Debbie, great workout! Those weights you are using are impressive. I will go back and use Cathe's older workouts soon, they look fun.

Roselyn, I wish I could cut out the carbs but I get so light headed when I workout if I don't have them in my diet. I know that's why I have some fat in my mid section. :( You are very disciplined, I wish I could be more like that.

I hope you all have a great day!

I love Muscle Max too! Also, I love the Gym Style workouts, the cast looks amazing and It really inspires me to lift heavy. Remember Leaner Legs, that's a great burner, high reps a lot of pulses, I might have to do that soon.

Diane Sue
Today workout was a nice long cardio and yoga. I did Ripped with Hiit Low Impact Hiit both workouts mix, keeping the stretch active, then I did Ice Low Impact Sweat workout 1 skipping the warm up, 71 minutes, 540 calories. I used 5 and 8# with the Ice workout. I then did 21 Day Fix Extreme Yoga, 30 minutes,, 98 calories. Total time was 1 hr 41 minutes, 638 calories. :D I got my new strap from Polar. It started out high and I was about ready to just figure it would not work. Well when I was setting up it decided to straighten out to normal heart rate start up. It worked throughout the cardio but, when I stopped and started with the Yoga it quit working. My HR registered around 175 through most of the yoga workout till the last few minutes and once it went to 0. I just took the three readings I had with my watch and went mid range on the calories burned since the times I did this it ranged from 95-104. It is odd how new HR equipment will work right out of the package and then go nuts.

Deb, you are lucky that you can get away with the carbs. I can get away with it a day or two but it catches up with me. I used to do loads of cardio and eat tons of carbs but low fat. That worked for a long time but I had so many migraines. I think there must have been something to the diet.
I hated some of the music on the older workouts like Slow and Heavy. Some of those soundtracks have been used by so many other instructors on their workouts as well. I like the music on Two the Max and Party Rockin Step. I like most of the newer stuff much better than what a lot of other instructors use. I don't know what happened but they all seem to have this generic same type of soundtrack that gets boring. It makes it hard for me to enjoy the workouts. Beachbody has a lot of soundtracks that I do not like. I like Turbo Fire, Les Mills Pump and Combat. They are fun. Tony's workout soundtracks are boring. 21 Day Fix is not good for music either. I would do Turbo Fire more but there is an awful lot of jumping turning and pivoting the legs around quickly and I worry about my knees. I have a question, you have the Fit Bit Surge right? I was wondering if it worked better than say the HR Charge and if you can recharge it or if you have to keep buying batteries. They look a little large to me. I did read that they worked well for more steady cardio than say, Hiit?

Jolie, I used to use the CTX leaner legs and the workout with all of the upper portions on alternate days and then all of the abs combined workouts on cardio days. I had nice lean results with that. Now I look at it and think that might be like torture. I might be surprised though. Really something like leaner legs makes my knees hurt from all of the nonstop repetitions. I loved Muscle Max and I really liked the Live version that does not use the step.

I am going to go start us a June check in

Today I did HiiT Back, Shoulders and Biceps. Where is shoulders being worked in this workout? I know they work during most of the exercises for back and biceps, but this workout doesn't directly work shoulders that I could see. I like this workout, though, it's very fun. I should have done the finishers in this one, they looked fun.

One Arm Rows: 30# - 3 sets/12 reps
Pullovers: 30# - 3 sets/12 reps
One Arm Angled Row: 25# - 3 sets/12 reps
Bent Over Raise: 12's - 3 sets/12 reps

Barbell Curls: 30# - 3 sets/12 reps
Concentrations Curls: 15# - 1 set/12 reps; 1 sets/10 reps
Simultaneous Hammer Curls: 15's - 2 sets/12 reps; 12's - 1 set/12 reps

Walked on my treadmill for 1 mile.

Roselyn - No, I haven't tried the live workouts yet. I haven't had time to check them out. Have you?

Diane Sue - I'm glad your nephew is home. I hope he tries to be more healthy with his lifestyle. Yes, I am lucky that I can eat carbs. I can't go crazy with them, but I do eat quite a bit during the day. I know what you mean about HR monitors. Mine work great when they are brand new, then they don't. They seem to learn my body and then give me readings I don't like. Maybe we should just chalk it up to the fact that we are extremely healthy and our hearts don't work much to get us through workouts. We are fortunate for that.

Jolie - Glad you were able to spend time with your mom. Nice workout yesterday. 1 hr 15 min.!! I haven't had a workout over an hour in ages. Nice job!!!

Today is the day that I turn 50! :) Wow is all I can say. I swear I feel like 30 instead! :) My husband, boys and parents were so generous to me, I feel guilty. I did a Cathe Live Workout, Tri- Set Legs and loved it. It is a lot like STS Meso 2 tri- set legs, basic exercised each approximately 16 reps. It was a real burner. I had to substitute a few exercises because I cant do the lunges, I did leg extensions and leg curls instead. Workout was 55 minutes and I burned 436 calories. My heart rate really got up on this workout because the rests were short and the higher reps always kill me, but in a good way.

Debbie and Roselyn, I know you both will like this workout, you have to sign up for Cathe Live.

Diane Sue, I am going to try CTX leg workout and see if I can survive it! I always like a challenge and I am sure I have the DVD.

Gardening question: My huge tree out in front of my house did not get buds or any new leaves this year???? I wonder what is wrong with it. I googled the question and obviously it is under distress. I love that tree and it is the only shade that I have for our hot summers. Anyone know what is wrong with it?

Have a great day.

I am slow today. I have the cold and scratchy throat that my husband has had all week. My workout was not really long. I had my grandson here this morning. I did 21 Day Fix Extreme Lower body 34 minutes, 218 calories. I then did Cathe's Great Glutes stability ball, bonus chair, and stretch, 21 minutes, 72 calories. Total time was 55 minutes, 290 calories. I used 15's Fix Extreme lower body.
Here is what Polar emailed me about their straps:
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your H7. Looking over your repair I see that you sent in your H7 without the chest strap. We performed a basic service charge on your H7 where we tested in and it tested OK. I feel that the issue you're experiencing is chest strap related. When it comes to the connection between the H7 and the phone/watch, if you start to get an abnormal reading like the one you're experiencing it could be that the electrodes within your strap have worn out. Over time the electrodes in our straps tend to wear out after roughly 18 months of usage depending on the usage and how well the strap has been maintained. After each use with the H7 we recommend to remove the H7 from the chest strap and we also recommend to clean the chest strap after each use to prolong the life span of the strap.

On a side note, I told them that strap has never worked right that came with the HR7. At least the new one they send doesn't have an odd smell. But, it did the same thing yesterday. Today I used my watch and old transmitter.

Deb, I know it is probably good that we get low readings health wise. But it sure is nice to see a good calorie burn for all that work put in. There is shoulder work in both upper body workouts. One works them with upright rows and overhead presses the other works more in the delts.

Jolie, the tri-set lower body is one that I really liked a lot, Have you checked the bark on the tree to see if it is still intact? Does it seem the limbs are dying off? What kind of tree? Is there any insect infestation ? There could be many reasons or maybe just a dormant period. I had a magnolia at our last home and one season it looked horrible and everything just kept dropping off. It picked back up the next season though. It is hard to say unless you can pinpoint stuff to search. Some trees like Poplars have a much shorter life span. We found that out when we put them all along our back fence that faced a busy street as a block. They grew fast but died fast as well. I learned to start new trees and placed them in between.

Today I did Cardio Coach 3, my favorite. Had a great workout, I really love this one.

Workout was 40 minutes, ran 2.76 miles, burned 265 calories (yea right, TM said 370) and went 5557 steps.

Jolie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I know how you feel, I turned 50 on Easter. Yikes, doesn't seem possible. I hope you have a great birthday weekend!!

Diane Sue - Sure hope you feel better. I hate summer colds. Polar is stupid. I don't know what to think about how they handle problems. It might be the chest strap, but then they need to figure out why some chest straps are messed up and fix the problem. I never had a Polar that seemed to work right. How frustrating.

Jolie Happy 5oth

Yesterday I did 21 Day Cardio Extreme and today Bulk Shoulders

Debbie I agree with you on the Hiit workout and the shoulders.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, I had a great day. Debbie, I hope you had a wonderful birthday as well! Today I did not get a workout in. :( Too many things on my plate today, oh well. Tomorrow I think I'm going to do some kickboxing and some upper body weight work. I will preview some more Cathe Live classes and see which one to do. I am sure liking doing a different workout each day, I think I was so bored doing the same stuff all the time.

I haven't got on the scale lately, but I'm starting to see some changes in my body, for the better! Almost every workout I have been doing has some sort of legs in it and I think that is what I was missing. It makes my heart rate go up during the workout so I get a better calorie burn.

90 degrees here today...

Enjoy the day!

This morning I started with 21 Day Fix Extreme Cardio, 34 minutes, 218 calories. I started 2 times, the first time getting through the squat segment. I was trying to use the HR7 again. It just would not level out on the HR. Finally the 3rd time I went back to the watch and other transmitter. The same new strap though, It worked like it should. I was pretty put out with wasting my time like that. It started out with my hr around 168 without doing anything.
I then did Ice Low Impact Sweat Timesaver mix #11 cardio 2 and core 2, 41 minutes, 254 calories. Total time was 71 minutes and calories burned 501. I also did some Fitness Blender You tube stretching. One was a pilates based cool down stretch and the other was a stretch for low back and sciatic pain. I added some extra work for the hip flexors too.

Jolie, Happy Birthday :) That is so nice that your family was really generous. I bet you had a great time. Isn't it amazing how working out helps keep us feeling much younger :D That is great that you are seeing changes. I think I have slowed some because of my knee and shoulder. I am trying to get in a bit more to burn off some fat. I keep trying to come to terms with some dietary things I really probably need to change. I love to eat.

Roselyn, I did the same workout that you did yesterday. I am kind of liking the 21 Day Fix workouts. But then I am liking the Ice workouts more than I thought I would. I kind of want the rest of them. Lots of options and the Muscle Meltdowns and blizzard blasts are a nice part of them. Do you have the 21 Day Extreme ABC and the other extra workouts? I am wondering if they have a lot of jumping in them.

Debbie, I am starting to not like Polar very much. They also sent me an e mail telling me how to care for the strap, like removing the transmitter. Oddly they said to put attach the transmitter and then put the strap under running water. I really thought maybe they said it wrong because I would have thought that I would not want to run water of the transmitter. At that mileage and time I would think that you would at least have somewhere over 300 calories burned. I check my readings all of the time with the calories burned app and with my Polar FT60 watch I am generally within about 30 calories between the app reading using average hr and the watch reading.

Today was Dirty Thirty Extreme followed by some back work.

I have not been eating alot of carbs but have been looking at that Kodiak pancake mix anyone try?

Debbie no I have not got Live yet but on the verge.

Diane Sue and Jolie, are all workouts on Live that are on dvds or are these all different

Roselyn, all the workouts on Cathe Live are her workouts she does in the gym each week with a class. So they are all different than the dvds. If you purchased Cathe On Demand which is more expensive, you get the cathe live classes and you get access to all of the dvd workouts as well. I did not get on demand because I already have the dvds at home. It is only $9.99 per month and she has over 100 live classes to choose from, its a deal!

Todays workout was Hardstrikes Boxing with some weights. I used 2 pound weighted gloves to make the workout harder and I used a set of 10# weights like Cathe used and trust me that is good. The workout was one hour and I burned 502 calories. There was some ab exercises at the end as well. I liked this workout a lot and will do it again. It is simple to do but tough if you add the extra weight. Average heart rate was 147 and high rate was 173.

It was blazing hot here yesterday, 98 degrees! I'm tired today because it was hot last night for sleeping and I woke up feeling sticky and that makes me have low energy.

Roselyn, I have not tried that pancake batter. Also, what is Dirty Thirty Extreme?

Debbie,
Since you are lifting heavier these days, I am sure you are adding muscle mass. Are you gaining any weight? I always gain because I think my muscles hold onto more water weight when I lift heavy.

Diane Sue, great workout yesterday. I have the new Fitbit and don't seem to have any problems with it and there is NO chest strap, which I like.

I hope you all have a nice weekend with family and friends. I will be working out tomorrow and I'm going to splurge and get my hair done at a nice salon. :)

Today I did 21 Day Fix Dirty Thirty Extreme 32 minutes, 200 calories. I then did Ice Boot camp circuit 44 minutes, 266 calories. Total time 76 minutes, 466 calories. There seems to be a lot of shoulder work in Dirty 30 Extreme along with the lower. I think it is a bit more upper body oriented even though you are doing lower with the upper. I wasn't feeling well last night and pulled out the Nyquil but changed my mind and had some more Amazing Grass anti oxidant greens along with some more oil of oregano drops. I woke up feeling much better and did not cough much last night. I am glad I did not use the Nyquil. I hate the way antihistamines make me feel.

Roselyn, it looks like we did the same workout. I have seen the Kodiak pancake mix but have not tried it. Right now I am trying to make myself cut down a bit more on the nuts and so many iced coffees with coconut milk. I have pretty much left honey out the last few days. It really raises the carb count. I thought I did okay yesterday till I realized that I forgot to log the hazelnuts I ate. The live workouts are all different classes. Cathe pretty much has the same group come to her class. Even the ones that have the same name like live muscle max are different from the dvd workout. The only one I did that was very similar was the Ice Low Impact cardio one that was pretty much the same a the floor portion of the Ice Sweat dvd. I found that the spin bike workouts seemed much harder and there is not the breaks Cathe has on the dvd workouts between the changes.

Jolie, the idea of no chest straps would be nice. One of the things I liked about the Polar HR7 was that I did not have to use watch. I could but with the Bluetooth I just set up my tablet and it is a 12 inch galaxy it is easy to watch as my heart goes up and down the graft in the zones and the readout for the heart rate and calories is large. I can see it easily and push myself a little harder. I just wish the silly thing was reliable. Do you have the Surge or the Charge HR ? That was a good workout today. It is supposed to be up in the 90's this week and the rain has let up for awhile. I dread the higher temperatures. So far it has not been too bad.

Diane Sue - Don't you have a Fitbit? If not, you should get one. Granted, it will probably do the same thing your HR7 is doing, but at least you don't have to wear a chest strap. You should look into a Surge or the Blaze. They clock workouts like the Polar does. I do love mine, just hate the way my calorie burns are so low. But I had that with the Polar's as well.

Deb, thanks. I am going to check those two out. I have a birthday coming up in August, maybe I will ask for that :)

I think I'm not doing weights this week due to my left elbow. I did something to it Saturday while helping DH shovel stone - I think I over did it and Sunday morning it was really hurting. However, it's been hurting for a while so I can't blame it all on Saturday. I took some Aleve and its doing better today. I think a week without weights will be good. I sort of wanted to take an active recovery anyways, so this is a good excuse to do that.

Today I did Cardio Coach 1 and had a great workout. Love this one because it's short and sweet. It goes by really fast. Did well with it.

Workout was 36 minutes, burned 236 calories, ran 2.34 miles and went 4834 steps.

Diane Sue - You should get one, they are worth it just to not put that stupid strap on.

I forgot to check in yesterday. I did a Cathe Live workout, Strong Upper Body, 60 minutes and I burned 400 calories. I did this workout 2 weeks ago and I love it. It is very fast paced, so you better have your weights ready. One Giant set per body part and repeat it 3 times.

I am very tired today so I might take the day off.

Diane Sue, I have the Fitbit Blaze and love it. I like the one Debbie has too, mine was $50 less expensive. The Blaze has a big display so I can read it easily without my glasses! I think I like the look of Debbie's better, it looks sporty.

Debbie, Nice short workout! I am taking it easy this week too, my body is tired. We have to listen to our bodies otherwise we will get injured. Have a Chiropractor look at your elbow, it might be out of alignment.

Have a nice day.
