Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Tues 5-9

Cathlete
Morning Maniacs -

This morning I did CIA Criss Cross Cardio with Sherri Jacquelyn. The entire cardio portion is only 47 minutes with warm-up included and the Caopiera segment is 20 minutes. If I had more time this morning, I would have repeated a couple cardio sections to make it a bit longer. I only had time for about 12 minutes of the Caopiera.

I really liked this workout and of course, I like Sherri, as I mentioned last week. This is classic kickboxing with bouts of higher impact cardio in between to keep the heartrate up. This reminded me of a Cathe kickbox but was slightly different. A lot of the combos were easy to catch on to, but she did about 3 that were different and harder to follow. This was only my first time doing it, so I'm sure I'll pick them up after a few times.

My favorite part of this is a combo where you do a jump and duck back (quickly) and then a jumping kick to the front, 3 jabs, and a cross-curved finger strike (to the throat) move. It was so much fun....I could have done this part forever. (Which reminds me - the first time I looked at the time ...I was 40 minutes into this workout...so I'd give it a good fun factor rating).

There is a good balance of kicking, punching and combos combined with just enough high intensity to keep my heartrate in the 140-160's. They do show a modifier doing a lower impact version if you choose to do so.

It ends with a standing ab segment with punches across the body and down. Very unique. Then the capoiera segment (some of it is familiar from Turbo Jam) is like the one move Chalene always does in TJ (can't remember the name) with moves that sort of mimic front kicks and back kicks (sort of) and side lunges. It didn't feel too difficult, but my HR stayed in the 120's and it was a lot of balance work. We'll see how my butt feels tomorrow. She says its gonna be sore (but it's already sore...LOL).

Nicole - The new kickboxing tape I got was the older CIA by Sherri Jacquelyn. I liked her so much after doing this Criss Cross Cardio last week that I emailed Greg at CIA Video and asked him which older workout of hers was better.

Charlotte - I'll try and email you from work later. Have fun at day 2 on the job.

Hi to everyone else!

Have great workouts everyone. I'll try to check in from work, but my boss is on this kick where I've been working in her office doing a project with her and she's on my back cuz my work's not caught up (cuz I was on vacation). I'll try to pop in though.

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Yesterday was my rest day. Today I will be doing PUB and I forget what else, but I will do it when I get home...after 3pm. I hope it won't be so chilly today. Yesterday I could have gotten away with wearing a sweater.

Have great sweaty workouts everyone!!

Charlotte~~

Hi Charlotte - Up getting ready for work, are ya.....me too!! talk to you later.

Debbie - I forgot to mention....re: Mark Blanchard. Ooohhh...so you got one, did ya? I'm glad you think he's hard! LOL! Mark's the person who inspired me to heal my body thru yoga. I emailed him a while ago when his Sedona series first came out and told him I haven't been allowed to do yoga (doctors orders - no down dogs/chatarangas) and he said that yoga is very healing and I could slowly work my way up and in no time, I'd be doing handstands, etc. Well, I've been doing what he said and I'm slowly progressing (against my doctor's wishes) and I think it's been making me much stronger in my weightlifting too....because of the stretching effect and the toning effect both.

Now that you've tried him, I urge you to try Eion!! His DVD Power Yoga for Happiness is available at Amazon and it has 6 premixed routines on it. Eion is the best. I just love him.

For those of you who weren't around when I posted about this earlier, Eion's website is www.Vancouveryoga.com and he used to have 3 free yoga downloads on there. One is Winter Yoga (excellent 40 minute audio routine), one is a quickie yoga for 25 minutes and the other one is Tragically Hips (60 minute ....great workout). Check it out and see what he's about. You will not be sorry!

ETA: Okay ....if you ladies don't get Power Yoga for Happiness soon, I just may have to buy a copy for everyone and pass it around so we can spread some yoga love!

Morning Everyone!

Thought I'd pop in now as it will be a hectic day here. I plan on doing an hour on the treadmill. I'll add more running intervals too. :7 Oh yeah, a Core Max segment, since yesterday it never happened. PT went well last night. Next week I can drop down to one day!!! I have to keep telling myself to not get overzealous. lol

Charlotte ~ Have a good day at work! Glad it's going well so far.

Lora ~ Once again, thanks for the review! I'll be picking your brain soon, I hope! ;-)

I posted last night before I went to bed, so I won't repeat all of what I said. :)

Have a great day everyone!

Dallas

Good morning,

Today was Eoin Finn's PY4H (magically hips premix). Love that one. I have our club's bicycle time trial (12 miles flat out speed) tonite after work. When you get done with a time trial, you are hurting! I always try to not work out hard before one of these. We'll see how I do and hope the wind is not blowing. You go 6 miles, turn around and come back the same route (with a couple of hills) so if you have a tailwind one way, you're going to fight the wind going back. Doing these TT's last year helped me to get stronger as they make you really push. Anyhows, I'll report back tonite.

My massage didn't work out, time mixup so I'm rescheduled for next Monday.

Charlotte, enjoy PUB after work, something to look forward to, huh?

Dallas, sounds like the PT is going well. Do you listen to something on the treadmill? I'd have to as I'd be bored to death.

Lora, you won't have to get me the Eoin Finn DVD. I think he's terrific and will check out the website you posted. I hoping the yoga will help my cycling too with better range of movement. I remember a few years ago doing it more regularly and it did help.

Must get going now, I'll post later.

Jeanette

Wow, lots of posts already this morning! Cool!

Lora - great workout and thanks for the other recommendation on yoga. I really did like Mark, I like how he talks. I found this workout really difficult, I need to work my way up. I thought the Sedona series was for beginners. I'd hate to see he advanced workouts.

Dallas - I found Mark to be a bit harder than Bryan, not sure why. Maybe I just had an off day, and I haven't done a whole lot of yoga for a while so that may be why I felt it was so hard. I feel really good today and my low back feels a bit better, not so tight. I recommend trying him out.

This morning I did Step Fit. Had an ok workout, my heart rate kept dropping throughout the workout. I like this one, it has some fun steps to it, but a bit repetitious. I was in my zone for 37 minutes and burned 268 calories.

Good Morning Maniac!!

You guys are the bomb!!! Just thought I'd tell you that...

Guess what??!! My co-worker is MIA...again!! Okay...now, I'm moving on.

This morning I did PLB...you would have thought I ran a few miles as much as I was sweating...that one really gets me. I wanted to do a little cardio, but didn't have time. I'll get some in later.

<On Soap box>

I was looking at yesterday's post and saw the subject of food combining. I hope you guys don't take this the wrong way, but look at Marilu...if your goal is to look like her then I guess you should listen to what she is saying, but if you are trying to sculpt your body and be stronger, then I'm thinking NOT. This is just one more thing to confuse everybody and have us all second-guessing our choices when there was probably nothing wrong with what we were doing in the first place. What kind of documented proof does she have on this? Do you guys remember when Suzane Somers (don't know how to spell her name, she was on Three's Company - oh, oh I'm aging myself) was preaching the same thing? Try not to get too caught up...

<Off Soap box>

Jeanette - Sorry you didn't get that massage...what a bummer, especially since you were looking forward to it. You time trail sounds like sooooo much fun. I bet you will feel much burning after it done, but the sheer satisfaction of the completing the task will make it all worth while. I'm telling you, I've gotta find a group to join to run, bike, or something!!

Lora - You are the woman!! Love your reviews...so much information. I hang on each and every word...

Toasty - I'm feeling some DOMS from PUB...but it's all good. Hope you have a great day at work today. It's been a little chilly around here too.

Dallas - What you got going on today? PT must be going excellently (is that a word) for you. I'm so glad you are doing better...you are getting ready kick butt and take names!!

Debbie - Is Step Fit a Cathe workout? I don't like workouts that are too repetitve anymore...I think we get spoiled by the more difficult workouts.

Hi to all that follow...

Gotta run to a meeting...I'll be back.

Morning Ladies,

Today I am going to do a treadmill run and back shoulders ahd biceps.

Dallas-Tha is great you are getting some running in again,
Debbie-I feel your frustration at what is right and what is wrong and so much confusion. I agree with Marietta on the fact that we could drive our self nuts!
Lora-I am liking the sound of the kickbox workout you did today. I really enjoy kickbox now. There was a time I hated it.
Charllotte-Have fun at work
Jeanette-I had complications from oral surgery so that is why I was out of it for awhile.
Marietta-I hope youu have a good day!
Hello to everyone else and I will check back later.

Terri

Hey there Marietta!! Yes, I think this therapist has found the trick to help my foot/ankle heal. I'm so afraid of it happening again. So, I'm sort of sticking with the same workouts for awhile until it gets stronger.

Thank you for that advice on food combining. It does get so confusing. In fact, that same thought crossed my mind...what was/is her (Marilu's) goals with this method. It does seem purely health benefits. Though I'm into that considering my terrible genes I've inherited. :-( However, I like what I've created here with Cathe's workouts and the changes I've made this past year with my diet. My stomach has been giving me some problems lately and I read that chapter I thought....Oh! This may be the answer. Just gathering info like I always do. lol Thank you as always for your wonderful insight!!! You ROCK!!! If it weren't for you I'd still be hobbling along with my foot. You are the one who made me press the doctor for the ultrasound, etc. Thanks Marietta!

Sorry so long!

Oh, I did my hour treadmill run w/6 2-minute intervals of running at the end & CM#2. I'll do some more stretching tonight.

Need to be running along....

Dallas

ETA: Christine, did your dh leave already for India (?) ? I've been meaning to ask.
Nicole, I got your e-mail. Thanks for the update. I'll try an e-mail you back later.
Terri, glad you're feeling better.

Hi Terri! How ya feeling buddy?? What did you end up doing yesterday?? You have a good day too...how's business??

Debbie - Dallas talked about food-combining on yesterday's thread. Go check it out..

Dallas - You are a sweetie!! I got much love for you too!! I pick up more from you then you probably realize. I'm so glad you are running a little...good idea to take it nice and slow.

Gotta do some more work...later.

Marietta-I am feeling so much better, Thanks! I wound up doing just weight yesterday. Figured I would get some more REAL food in me and tackle cardio today:) Sorry to hear your co-worker flaked again. How frustrating!

Terri

Good morning everyone!

I did Core Synergistics today (P90X). LOVE that workout - kind of a TLT on steroids (healthy ones of course :p). I'm going to do a run today at the gym - we have what our weather girl calls PM (Particle matter) in the air today and I would rather leave it in the air and as out of my lungs as possible. I'm already sneezing up a storm! :)

Dallas - thanks for asking about DH. He's still in China, will be leaving Thursday morning (which will be tomorrow - as they are a day ahead). His mom is awake and talking, but we just don't know. He needs to see her. And yes, hon - it's WONDERFUL to see you running again!

Lora - good luck with your boss...

Charlotte - sounds like you like your job so far! That's great!

Jeanette - YES time trials are killer. I don't race any more, but I used to enjoy it. Have fun!

Marietta - I have to agree - there's always someone who's claiming to know everything. Usually if they are famous, I tend to ignore him/her. The real basics haven't changed too much. I love that you're here to be our voice of reason.

Terri - happy to hear you're feeling up to working out again. Glad you're back - you've been missed!

Waves hello to everyone who follows and hopes Nicole and family are doing well.

Hey Everyone,
I am not sure today what I am going to do???

Charlotte congrats on finding a job, and even liking it!! Sounds good!! What kind of job did you end up finding? I missed it!!

Lora you have me interested in Sherri!! I remember reading over at vf that her other one was good as well!! Thanks for the review!!

Terri did not know that you were not well, but happy to see you!! Take it easy getting back!! You will soon be at full speed again!!

Sabrina how are you?? Busy selling lots of house's I hope!!

Netta I was not to much of a kickboxing fan either...... Sadly I let Cathes gather dust for quite awhile?? I just kept hearing people RAVE about it , and I kept trying to give it a chance, and it finally clicked:7

Dallas WOW good workout on the treadmill!!

Marietta I love it when you give your no nonsense advice!! Your GOOD:7

Hey Christine did you finish you rotation?? What rotation are you going with??

Hey Susan how are you doing today??? I am going to have to try that premix from HSTA!! Thanks for the tip!!

Susan WELCOME to the forum!!

Hello to everyone else!!

~Nicole

Nicole - I'm just into week 4, so I have 9 more weeks to go... :) I'll be done about the same time I run my half.

Darn - wanted to show a photo of my niece, but it's not an open access database - it's so cute - she's 1 year old, hanging out in kiddie car (the kind with an handle so you can push it like a stroller) - one hand on the wheel, the other on the back of the seat...

Hi there!

I was posting early this morning and the cable service went out. Very frustrating not having the computer, phone and tv not work!

Did you all see Cathe's post today? Her injury is SO much better!! I'm really happy for her.

I never went to sleep last night! Something must be bothering me for that to happen. Of course baby slept straight through.

Today I will do SH Triceps and Biceps. I'll also do some ab work. Although I am kind of dragging now.

Dallas, I posted after you last night. I'm glad PT is helping you!

OK, back to the food combining. What I've tried to do is with each meal AND snack have a lean protein a fibrous carb and sometimes a starchy carb. So, for example breakfast may be oatmeal (complex carb) and egg whites (protein) and a piece of fruit (simple carb).
The reason is the protein slows the digestion of carbs. so my energy level dont fluctuate which allows my muscles to repair and grow.

Terri, I'm glad you're feeling better.

Susan C.M.

WOW - so many posts! I think I'll have to try to get here earlier. :) I'll have to do like Jeanette and write down everyone's names.

This morning I did a Spinervals video - The Uphill Grind. I try to do hill work on the bike once a week. For some reason this morning I was dragging. I really, really wanted to quit early, but I hung in there. I just keep thinking of all the fast people I ride with and how badly I want to get stronger. Jeanette - you're too good to me. You have been such an inspiration and so helpful to me on the bike. I wish I could get up the courage to do our time trials. DH's friend asked me the other night if I was going to participate. I'm such a chicken. I think it's mostly the fast guys who do it and then a couple of my fast girlfriends, and you KNOW how I hate being last. :)

I'm not a yoga fan, but you're all piquing my interest quite a bit. I might have to try that Happiness one. If it would help my cycling, I'd do it! When do you fit in yoga though? I feel like I have so many other workouts to fit in that yoga would have to be in addition to something else. I'm not a kickbox fan either, but I keep hearing raves about that as well. It just seems like such an un-natural way for my body to move.

Christine - sorry about your allergies. That must really suck! The wind blows so much here that I'm sure there's always something blowing around.

Charlotte - it's supposed to SNOW here tonight. What the heck?

I think to make things less confusing here, I will start signing my name as Suz. A few of my friends call me that and since there is already a Susan here that would probably be easiest. :)

Hey guys...back again!!

Hi Nicole....what do you wanna do today? have you done anything yet? Have you been riding the bike lately?? What are your goals at the moment? I know you've had a lot going on...so I don't know where you are workout wise. Know what I mean?? Just do whatever your heart desires.

Hey Christine - Darn those allergies!! I'm glad you DH will be able to see his mom...it will be good for both of them. Darn it! I would have loved to see that picture...I know you'll find a way.

Susan - Seems like a lot of people I know are having problems with their cable...what's up with that? Sorry you didn't get much sleep...I didn't sleep well either come to think of it. Maybe tonight will be our night for some good sleep....zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Whatever is on your mind, I hope you can find the peace you need so that you can rest peacefully. In general if nothing else I always eat proteins with carbs...keeps me fuller. I just hate when they say you cannot eat this with that and all that junk...it just complicates things.

Suz - I'm with you on the yoga, I wanna do it, but if I had a choice I'd go for the cardio and weights. I'm seriously struggling with this. At first the excuse was that I had no workouts...well, Lora fixed that problem by sending me some workouts. So now my excuse is...well, I don't have a good one. I just don't know "when" to do it. Perhaps our forum buddies will gently but firmly stay on our cases about it...LOL!

Now...it is hard to get to know who is who around here, but if you stick around, you'll just know who's been here and who hasn't in a typical day. Lately, we have had some new people join and leave, but our core group has been pretty steady for quite some time. Just hang with us and you'll see what I mean.

Gosh...am I long-winded today or what??

Marietta and Suz - *raises hand and steps in with yoga wanna-bes* I have a difficult time with the slow movements. I love yoga, and I really enjoy the incredible stretch it gives me, but as the lemurs is Madagascar say, "I like to move it, move it!"... I can handle about 1/2 an hour of Yoga before I need to go do laundry or something. I'm working on it as well.

Another one here who has a tough time doing yoga. I feel like I need to MOVE it too :)

Terri

Christine thanks for the welcome back. How was your visit with AMY?
