Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Monday 5-8

Cathlete
Morning Fitness Maniacs -

This morning I did Amy Bento's A Team Boot Camp. I did not do it exactly as she does though. I chose to keep moving by either jogging or doing a boxers bounce during all of her "down time". I also lifted heavier than she does (I lifted what she did last time and it wasn't enough for me). I again surpised myself using the resistance band that used to be hard for me....as it was much easier. I think I'm ready for a harder band. I have to attribute some of that to yoga. All in all, this made for a much better workout the way I did it today. I still think the workout is unbalanced cuz she doesn't do chest or lats in this (not that I recall).

I'm pretty sore today and if I wasn't a maniac and listened to my body, I would have done some pilates and cardio today instead of the hard workout I did....but I can't cuz I'm FAT!! LOL!!

I have a question about pikes on the ball. I'm not supposed to be doing pikes, planks or pushups right now (my shoulders are still really sore from all of those injections last week) but I never listen to my doctor and did stuff I wasn't supposed to (I hope I'm not too sorry). Anyway, I did pikes on the ball for the first time today (never done them before). Is it normal for the ball to get awful unstable and try to get away from your feet? I had to laugh at myself.....as I was all over the place. I did manage to get some good reps in there, but believe me, I did my share of wobbling and falling. Is this normal?

Debbie - I didn't notice Amy's whooping in the DVD I did yesterday. I can't believe she didn't do it though cuz she does it a lot in the others. I think I just tune it out. I'm very good at that :) these days. I'll have to pay attention when I do the other one. Truthfully, I never noticed the count thing with her either. The only thing I don't like about her is that sometimes I feel her workouts are a bit unbalanced and I don't like that she stretches in between segments and rests so much.

Charlotte - I sent you an email yesterday (2 actually). Let me know if you got it. YOu can email me at work later if you want to.

Hi to everyone else! Have great workouts.

Christine & Susan - I see you 2 are bike riders. I don't have an outdoor bike, only a stationary bike. I recently got a couple Mindy workouts that are interval aerobics done on the bike. They are pretty good! (Oh & I just read over at VF that Eion's new DVD comes out next month. Someone there just posted that they met him at a Canada Yoga Convention and they had a long chat with him. They said he was really nice, but I already gathered that from doing his yoga DVD's...he has that kind/gentle spirit ....and that's why I like him so much.)

Speaking of workouts - I spent a bit of my E-bay money yesterday and bought the 2 new Jari Love DVDs. They are high rep weight workouts. They are more advanced than her initital DVD, Get Ripped. I've been wanting them and caved yesterday. I also bought the older CIA Kickbox tape with Sherri Jacquelyn since I liked her so much on my new Kickbox DVD.

ugh .............Monday!!!!

Good Morning Maniacs!!

Yesterday I did extended lowmax. Went to see MI3. Was excellent! Today is my first day at the bank. I know I eat at 11am, but after that I am not sure cuz I am not sure how long I will have to work today. I won't go beyond 4 hours without eating so what should I say? Want to make a good impression, but I HAVE TO EAT!!!!

Lora,

I will read the emails this morning.

Charlotte~~

Good morning!

Today was Cardio & Weights for me. Been a long time since I've done a circuit workout, but this one felt pretty good. We have a Bowflex so I've been doing a lot of my weight workouts with DH in the evening so guess that's why I haven't done any Cathe weight work for a while. I've also been enjoying my Turbo Jams too. Variety is the spice of life and all. Anyway, it was a good workout. Have a massage after work today so didn't want to do a Bowflex workout tonite and spoil the effect.

Charlotte, hope you enjoy your first day at work. Should be interesting for you and I bet the day will fly by. I'm so used to eating at my desk during the day, but don't know if you can do that working in a bank. Are you a teller?

Lora, I might have missed it, but what are the shoulder injections for? Do they inject into the joint? If so, that sounds painful. My DH had shoulder surgery in January, but is doing really well and working out with me, using our Bowflex. I haven't done pikes on the ball in quite some time. I do okay if my arms aren't already pre-fatigued. Like after PUB, it's really tough, tough. Yep, I wobble, but the more consistently I do them, the easier it gets.

Must go now, hi to all that follow. I'll check back in after work. Bah, Mondays! I do have the massage to look forward to though.

Jeanette

Charlotte - tell them you are hypoglycemic and you need to eat something every three hours. They can't say anything about it if its a medical reason.

Lora - I did Team Bootcamp a couple weeks back and didn't care for all the rest breaks and "hydrating" breaks she takes. Next time I do it I will keep moving as well. As for pykes on the ball, when I first started doing them it was hard to keep my balance and the ball got away from me a few times. With time and practice you will be fine. Its hard to stablize yourself on that ball when you first start out. Remember to pull up with your core, not your legs.

This morning I did all of Power Hour. This workout seemed so easy for me today, I don't even feel like I had much of a workout. Weird. I love this workout, though, I really like the high reps and the burn you get. The abs is a good one as well.

I won Jari Love's "Get Ripped" workout, I can't wait to try it. Hope I get it soon!

Hi to everyone! Have great workouts!

Diane Sue - I forgot to tell you, Amy's ab workouts are good. The first one uses 5 lbs. weights (or higher if you want), its standing abs and then she goes down to the floor and does some really unique things. The second ab workout is using the stability ball and 5 lbs. weights. Its a good one. The stretch workouts on this DVD are good too, I really liked them. So far that is the best of the four DVD's I got from her.

Good Morning,

I'm having a late start to my day. I'm going to go run and then do S&H Chest and Back.

Lora, how was the movie yesterday?
Christine, how was your hike? I bet it was fun meeting a new friend.

Well, gotta run..literally, hahaha

Susan C.M.

My boss won't be here until Noon today...yay...but I'm way too busy. Still not caught up from being on vacation!

Charlotte- You can always eat something really quickly in the bathroom. I know if I told my boss I was hypoglycemic, I'd need a letter from my doctor - but she made me get a letter from my doc cuz I go to the bathroom too much. LOL

Susan - I posted yesterday about it. It was great. Good plot, good action (nonstop) and excellent supporting cast. I thoroughly enjoyed it and could probably see it again...cuz it moves so fast, you probably would see a lot you missed.

Debbie - How and where did you win Jari Love? Did you get a new one? I just ordered the new ones yesterday. What is the purpose of a high rep workout anyway (other than endurance and variety). I think I might use them once in a while and make it more of a strength workout and use heavier weights and do less reps...just to mix things up a bit. I have only done 1 stretch workout and 1 ab workout from Amy so far...I guess I'll have to try more off of it.

Jeanette - I have bulging discs in my cervical spine. I have had problems for a long time and just recently rec'd 10 trigger point injections in my upper back, shoulders and traps. They inject Marcaine (an anesthetic) into trigger points (spasmed muscle) throughout your back. I'm so acute that the relief is usually short lived though, plus you get a lot of pain from the actual injection.

Good Morning Maniacs!!

Did you guys miss me over the weekend? Probably not...huh? That's okay...I missed you.

I had a pretty good weekend...it was a little on the cool side, but I managed to get a few things done that I needed to. I took a rest day yesterday...didn't do a single workout.

This morning I ran 8 miles and this afternoon I'll most likely do an upper body workout of some sort...haven't figured that out yet.

Lora - I feel the same way you do about Amy's Bootcamp...I should probably pull that one out again. Hope some of that sorness eases off.

Toasty - Let us know how your first day of work goes...I cannot wait to hear all about it!!

Jeanette - Hi there! You are certainly welcomed here!! Good workout today...I haven't done Cardio and Weights in forever...it's a great workout. A massage sounds wonderful...enjoy.

Debbie - Power Hour and you don't feel like you worked out much??!! That's great....just means you are in incredible shape!! When I grow up I wanna be JUST LIKE YOU!!

Susan - Have a great run...literally (smile)!! How much longer before you go back to work?

Hi the Maniacs that follow....I'll be back!!

Happy Monday All!

Let's see I haven't checked in since Friday. I had a rest day Saturday. Did CC#3 and GSL standing work (except for reverse lunges, step ups and slow motion lunges this time) and partial floor on Sunday. Today, I did the treadmill for 45 minutes walking on an incline with three 3-min. running intervals at the end. Yeah, for running! It felt great! I have PT later so I thought I'd try it out. I still have PUB to do and abs.

It was another busy one here, but again got so much done. We almost finished planting 8 flats of flowers. I may try to plant the last two today.

Welcome Netta!

Lora ~ I remember being wobbly on the ball when I first started doing pikes. It was hysterical! I was lol at myself.

Debbie ~ Did I ask already about Amy's ab DVD compared to Cathe?

Susan ~ Enjoy your run! I got your e-mail. I'll get the book and chocolates in the mail. :9 It was so busy this weekend.

Charlotte ~ I'd try Debbie's excuse too. I couldn't imagine not eating every three hours. I get all shaky.

Terri ~ How are you feeling?

Nicole ~ How's your son? I meant to get an e-mail to you. Maybe later today.

Sabrina ~ How did your ds's date go?

Diane Sue ~ Not much longer!

Marietta ~ What busy things did you do this weekend? I know you'll let us know what great workouts you got in too! ETA: We must have posted at the same time. Of course, we miss you when you're not around! Of course, I wasn't around this weekend either. ha ha!

Christine ~ Are you starting your recovery week this week? What does that involve?

Hi to all who follow!

I'll check back later...

Dallas

Hi Dallas!! Yep...we posted at the same time.

I know you didn't ask, but I have to give my two cents...

Amy and Cathe really don't compare...they are on a different level. However, if you are looking for advanced workouts that are different then Amy is good. I only have two of her workouts and have no regrets about them...but I don't go for them nearly as often as I do Cathe workouts. I think Kelly Coffey is better than Amy, but again...I her.

This is purchase you would make if you've got a little extra money and just need a little "fix"...know what I mean?

Welcome Susan!! I was reading the weekend threads and noticed you joined us...so darn glad to have you!!

Ok...think I'm done for now.

Thanks Marietta for the review! Just curious for later. I'm working my way back into Cathe's DVDs so I won't be needing any cardio. I still hunt around for some good leg floorwork, but it looks like I can start doing more standing leg work! Yippee! I still LOVE Core Max, but it's nice to switch things up every now and then.

Yes, welcome Susan! I just saw that thread too. Wow! This group is growing.

Hey Everyone,

I'm BACK!!! Thanks again for all you kind words and support!!

Today I am going to do one of my kickboxing dvds?? Not sure which one yet??

Lora do tell....... you have some kickoxing workouts that you like??? Cathes are my favorite so far.....

I have been on a kick boxing craze.... Just doing Kickbox every other day, and it really been doing good things for me!! Mind as well as body!!

Netta welcome to our check in!! Cardio wts is one of my favorites!! I am going to order the turbo jams soon!! Happy to hear you enjoy them!! I agree variety is *FUN**!!

Debbie if you found PH easy I think you may be disappointed in Ripped!! It is much easier than Cathes, but it is realy fun, but you can make it harder by going heavier!!

Susan I sent you a email!! You to Dallas!! :D

Wow Marietta 8 miles!! You go!!

Hello to everyone else!!
Gotta go!!

~Nicole

Good morning all!

I'm exhausted. Amy kicked my butt (Amy from the boards, not Bento...) - actually I think it was all of my activity this weekend. But I feel good. Did Rodney Yee's Power Yoga this morning, so that got blood flowing to desperately needed places.

Dallas - my recovery week is basically yoga, cardio and a program called Core Synergistics which is kind of a function fitness DVD but with heavy emphasis on the core. No really heavy weights. I did Yoga today, and that's all I'm doing today. Tomorrow will be more.

Marietta - OF COURSE we missed you! 8 Miles eh? I'm working towards that. WAY TO GO!!

Nicole - WONDERFUL to see you here again! Hope all is well!

Lora - I like both outdoor biking and riding a spin bike. I have a trainer that I'll use for home spin workouts on my road bike. You can really get the heart rate up on a spin bike!

Charlotte - GOOD LUCK TODAY! I think if you work over 4 hours, they are required to give you a break. Pack a snack. I know what you mean, though - I eat every three hours. I'll be sending good vibes to you!

Netta - enjoy your message - that sounds so wonderful.

Debbie - Way to go on Power Hour! It's frustrating to bnot feel as if you got much of a workout, but very gratifying to know it's because you're making gains!

Susan - Aw thanks - it was fun meeting a new friend. Or really, meeting an old friend, just in person. I look forward to one day meeting all of you.

Good morning everyone!

Wow - this is a big group! How fun. :)

Thanks again for all the welcomes. I can tell already by your posts that you will all be quite motivating. That's awesome.

This morning I did Power Hour and topped it off with 4 sets of 12 leg extensions on the Bowflex. I'm hooked on PH right now. I think maybe it's the music. Like Jeanette, I do Bowflex too, so I don't always do Cathe workouts, but I think the Cathe workouts have made me stronger than I've ever been for lifting and on the bike (been doing them since November 2005). Debbie - I can't believe you thought PH was too easy today. You're amazing!!! But look at you - it probably takes a lot to challenge you!

Yup Lora, I ride. This time of year that is my only cardio. I just got an elliptical a couple of months ago and I miss it! But I want to make sure that all my cardio is on the bike so that I will be stronger there and I won't get my legs tired doing other cardio. Come November or so, the elliptical will be my new best friend. Jeanette is an awesome cyclist, by the way. As for weights, I try to do them Monday and Wednesday this time of year so my legs are rested for weekend rides with my fast friends. Fridays I'll somtimes do upper body workouts though. During the off-season, I lift legs 3x a week.

Charlotte - good luck at your job! I didn't realize you had one since Moment of Truth went away. You could just tell your boss you get shaky and headachy if you don't eat. That's what happens to me, but I don't necessarily think I'm hypoglycemic.

So it sounds like you all like C&W? I have it but have never done it b/c people talked about it being too easy. Hmmm...maybe another one to add in. I like variety too, as I can get bored.

Looks like Gizmo might have an infection in his jaw AGAIN! He sees the vet at 11. Poor guy!

Have a great day everyone. It's great to be here.

Hi Susan, not sure I welcomed you but - WELCOME!!! This group is very inspiring.

I love PH as well, I don't know why it seemed so easy today. Its getting harder and harder for me to get a good challenge in workouts. I may start lifting heavy again and do my own thing, see if that helps. I guess you could say I'm in a workout slump right now. Can't wait for Cathe's new ones, I'm sure they will challenge me.

Nicole ~ You're back!!!! I'll go check out your e-mail after I sign off. We missed you!!!!:) :) :)

Yeah Marietta, 8 miles.....woo wee! You go!!! I can only hope to get up to that mileage.

Susan ~ Good luck with Gizmo's injection! How's your mil?

I finished PUB today. I went a little heavier (for me ;-) ) on chest. That workout flew by today....it wasn't easy, but it went by quickly! I still have abs to do, but will get to them when I get back today.

Anyone use the food combining method? Marilu Henner talks about it. I was reading more of her book last night. That chapter really interested me. My stomach has not been the same since I changed my diet over a month ago. She says this method will take care of that. So, what do I have to lose? ;-)

Off to run errands with my boys...wish me luck. lol;-)

Dallas

Good afternoon,
This morning I did SJP w/u and step, Circuit Max cardio with barbell lunges and squats in between the segments, then I did Timesaver #5 legs and glutes and stretch. I locked my car and house keys in the house so had to call my daughter in law to get my granddaughter and my son to unlock the door for me:( I am taking my grandson shopping for mothers day and then picking up the older children from school.

Thanks Debbie and Marietta for your reviews of Amy's workouts.

Susan and Jeanette, I have a Bowflex and use it with some of the weight workouts. S&H works well with the Bowflex. I also use it for add on sets to workouts.

Nicole, it is good to see you back here.

I have to run. I will try and check back later.
Hi to everyone,
Diane Sue
http://wd.1ww.us

Back again!

Welcome Susan ~ from another Susan!;)

Dallas, I do food combining. I'm not sure what Marilu says, but I make sure I eat a protein and carb together. For example, I just had an orange and a bit of chicken (I just got done working out). Whereas I wouldnt have just the orange by itself.

Marietta, 8 miles! Wow! Good for you. You know, this may sound a little strange, but, since I talk to you all every single day, I do wonder what everyone is doing on the weekend too ~ when there is no message on the check-in.

Sabrina, how is your training going for your race? Five more days! Yay!

Nicole, so glad to see you back!:D

Diane Sue, I hate when that happens! Luckily, I havent locked myself out in a long time. Good thing your dd had a spare set of keys.

Lora, it took me some time getting used to doing pikes on the stability ball. I'd start to get part way up and completly roll sideways off the thing. I never got hurt, but it was pretty funny. Just keep at it.

Susan C.M.

Hello Again Maniacs!!

Well at lunch I did PUB...but just did it from memory. It was a good workout.

Over the weekend I didn't do much...I didn't do anything yesterday and on Saturday I did IMAX3 and taught a fairly easy class that consisted of about 30 minutes of step and some weight training.

Nicole - So wonderful to see you here again!! We missed you a bunch!! So how is everyone??

Christine - I read about you and Amy hiking...that is sooo awesome. I'm thinking about joining a running group to get some fitness companionship. Glad your dh had a safe trip...hopefully the time will fly and he'll be home shortly.

Susan - I check-in pretty frequently unless I'm having a really busy day. I do like C&W....it doesn't seem very hard at all, but for some reason when I do that one I'm drench...it may be the compound moves...I need to do it again to see if it still has that effect.

Debbie - I think you may be eating too much fruit...don't get me wrong, I'm a sistah that loves some fruit, but I found that when I ate too much of it...I wasn't as cut as I wanted to be. Do you eat it alone or do you eat some sort of protien with it...such as an apple with peanut butter? Just my two-cents...

Dallas - You got to run a little huh? How'd that feel? I bet you were grinning from ear to ear...

Diane Sue - Bummer about locking up you keys...at least you had someone to call besides the locksmith. Great workout...never thought about putting that leg work between Circuit Max segments...but then again, I don't think of a lot of things..what's my problem??!!

Hey Susan - I'll keep you posted girlfriend...How was your run?

Later...
