HARDCORE CHECK IN MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Cathlete
GM LADIES-
THOUGHT I WOULD GET THIS STARTED AND USE THIS THREAD FOR TODAY AND THE REST OF THE WEEKEND, AS I'M SURE IT WILL BE SPARSE :)

YESTERDAY WAS CARDIO AND I DID HIIT DWP FOLLOWED BY POWER YOGA FOR FLEXIBILITY. I AM SORE TODAY, NOT SURE WHAT THAT IS ABOUT... TODAY IS A KB/TRX CIRCUIT I MADE UP YESTERDAY AND SATURDAY IS MY REST DAY. YESTERDAY'S WORKOUT WAS 52 MIN AND I BURNED 460-SOMETHING CALORIES :)

I WILL BE BACK LATER BUT I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

Today was cardio and I didn't like what I had on tap for the day so I chose Low Max. Haven't done this one in a while. Had a really good workout. It's amazing how much harder a workout is when the humidity is so high. I sweating like crazy. I did all segments and blasts except the last one because I ran out of time. I'm at work today due to the holiday on Monday. I have to do invoicing. Yay.

HR STATS:
61 minutes total
3 minutes below zone
18 minutes in zone
42 minutes above zone
509 calories burned

Love when I see over 500 calories burned!

Good Morning ~

Good idea, Theresa :D Yesterday, I ended up doing 50 minutes of Extremely Ripped 1000. I swear I clicked on a premix - think my remote needs new batteries. At least this time I recognized what I did - just decided to do a couple of the 2nd 1/2's segments and that was enough. Liked it a little better this time. Sweat like crazy - even my ponytail was dripping. I also did Slow and Heavy/ Slo Mo Back. Really enjoyed this. I've been doing the SH work with 4 counts on the eccentric part of the exercise, 2 counts at peak contraction (or stretch position, depending on the move) and 2 for the concentric -- like it this way. Slo Mo's back segment has some unilateral work I really like, too. Today, I'm doing cardio and either chest or biceps.

ETA:

Debbie - We must have posted at the same time. Our humidity's up there, too. When it's like this, I have to wring myself out after a workout :p . I've got Low Max coming up in a couple days. I'll take your cal burn - good one!

Happy Friday/Memorial Day you guys.

Lori

Morning Maniacs -

Ugh...didn't want to get out of bed. My pain is flaring from being stressed out. I'm icing/heating myself as we speak. This morning, I rolled out of bed at the last possible moment and did Tracy's Perfect Design 1. I repeated the arm segment twice (once with wrist weights and once without). I wore ankle weights for the first part of the leg work....but she did a small section after the arms that I wasn't expecting...so I already had them off. I finished with Michelle Dozois' Ultimate Workout 15" stretch, but my weary body doesn't EVEN feel stretched out. Why oh why can I not feel stretched ever? Anyway, workout was 75" and I burned 520 calories. Max HR was around 139 during one of the leg movements. Oh, and I did all of the ab work with slightly bent legs to take the strain out of my lower back.

Have great workouts everyone. I'll be around this weekend....it's a normal one for me. I work Saturday, off Sunday, but I work Monday.

Debbie-that is quite a nice burn, gotta love that humidity :p Dh has Monday off for the 1st time in 3 years, it will really feel like a holiday weekend now :)

Lora-hoping for some good sales for you this weekend :) Do you take glutamine and/or BCAA's (branched chain amino acids)? I'm not sure if it would help or not, but it can't hurt. It really is suppposed to aid in recovery and rebuilding.

Lori-sorry, Cathe's HIIT Double Wave Pyramid :) I will certainly post our workout. I am trying to get DH to do side moves, everything he does is in the linear plane (bike, run) so I have some side lunges mixed in there. Instead of reps/sets, I am going w/ 2 sets of 1 min per exercise.....should be interesting to say the least. Are you using Amy's weight workout? I have been curious about her weight stuff.

I started my workout with Tracey's High Intensity Step Mix 2 step mix with no break down 16 min 69 calories, then I did Bosu Xplode Amped 51 min Max HR 155 322 calories, I followed with Tonique Squat segment 16 min Max HR 154 121 calories, Tracey's Circuit Zone Upper Body Mx 24 min 126 calories, Finished with Tony's One on One Patience Hummingbird Yoga 34 min 110 calories. Workout was 2 hr 21 min and calories burned was 748.

Theresa - yes, my newest protein powder (On Whey) has Glutamine in it.

Off to work ............I'll check in tonight after 9:30 pm.

Couldn't decide on cardio. I had Low Max on the brain, so I went with that. Weights later today -- probably this evening.

Theresa - My "duh" - I've gotten used to thinking of that Hiit workout as just "Pyramid." Also, I've been doing Cathe's Slow and Heavy combined with Amy's Slo Mo. Sort of a mix and match. I also have Amy's All Pump Extreme. She has some unique exercises in both of these and I'd say they're good workouts overall. In my opinion though, she doesn't cue all the moves as carefully as she could. Some of them seem risky if you didn't really know what you were doing. She also gives incorrect information (according to my understanding) a couple times. Like in the decline bench press on Slo Mo, I think she states that it works the upper chest. I scolded her but she keeps on saying it  I don't mean to nit pick, there are a lot of good things about both workouts. Some of the exercises, I'd never even seen before (especially in Slo Mo), and really get in there. The Slo Mo leg workout is good but tends to be taxing on the low back. It was tricky for me to find a weight heavy enough to challenge my leg muscle's without overtaxing my back or messing up my form. The Jefferson Squats and Wobble Squats and Hammie Rockers are great burners once you get that sorted out though. For someone with experience and a good knowledge base -- you, or anyone on this thread -- I'd recommend them. And finally, I like using time as opposed to counting reps. It can be tough, though (but that's good, right?) Sounds like your DH has gotten himself a really good and thoughtful trainer. Lucky dude :p

Lora - Glad you have Sunday off (at least). You sure keep plowing through some really tough workouts in spite of it all :). I'll be around this weekend too. No plans, really. Hope your day goes well.

Diane Sue - Gads, you did a lot today  Great workout :D How do you like Tonique? I understand it's tough -- does it have a fun factor?

Cheryl - I saw your post yesterday but spaced saying anything - Congrat's on your continued kick butt success :D Sounds like you're doing great. Do your camps open this weekend officially?

Hope everyone's having a great Friday

Lori

Hi ladies, no weekend plans for me either, so I'll be around.

Theresa, that Power Yoga for Flexibility, is that a Yoga Zone workout? I have some of their stuff. Used to have more on VHS.

Lora, hope you get lots of sales.

Yesterday ended up being my rest day. I am hoping I'll manage the workouts on the weekend so my total days this week will end up at 6. Mostly I've been working out four days a week, so I'd like to get a bit more in.

Today I went to this new yoga class called "Yogaworks Slim"; it's a yoga interval workout to get the heartrate up, and it definitely did...my goodness, it was hard! I'll be back next week for sure.

Lori, I had to LOL at the fun factor of Tonique. No, no, no, it is not fun but it seems to work. I think I am going to have to re evaluate my workouts. They are more strength based with the cardio but my pants are slipping. Got to change that fast. Weight is the same though. I was hitching those pants all day yesterday. So, I guess if you want to lose your back side and thighs use Tonique and Xplode. I have not been choosing very many just cardio workouts without some weight. And the sad thing is diet has not been spot on either. Oh, and workout was long because I really wanted to do that yoga workout and my timing was great:D I ate oreo dessert from yesterday post workout then went to lunch with dh and thought I should do better so had steamed veggies and steamed white rice with soy sauce. Not sure what dinner will bring but I need some protein. At least most days I have used some whey in the mornings. I was tempted to do a Ripped 1000 workout skipping the w/up or doing cardio only but really felt I needed more weight work.

Theresa, my dh has Monday off too:D So a long weekend together will be nice:D

Lora, I don't know what to tell you at this point. I take glucosamine chondroitin. Can't take msm with it because it causes me problems. Something I think with doing research to do with my allergy to sulfa drugs. My dd validated this. I take 1 500 mg tablet of L glutamine in the mornings after my workout and with food. Never have taken an amino tablet but do usually drink ON whey or Dymatize Elite. Myogenics Recovery drink has some nice aminos and the glucosamine chondroitin in it. I used that for awhile and really do think that is one of the best recovery drinks there is. But I purchased Insanity bonus workouts and got two tubs of Recovery drink with it. I used it but mixed it 1/2 serving and 1 of whey. It was not a favorite in my book but I did use it. I take fish oil which I am not sure if it helps or not. I do not have any noticable relief. But sometimes we are too anxious for the relief and don't give things a chance.

Debbie, it has been extremely humid here and very hot. Over 90 yesterday. Thought it was mid summer, but then that would be dry. I had two fans running today when I worked out. I was going to do Tracey's Sweatfest Step this morning to start but it loaded and did the introduction and then wouldn't go further. Maybe I need to try a different dvd player. Anyway, then I was in the mood for a Tracey Step and did a different one. Usually get a better calorie burn but I guess I was just not awake enough to remember all of the moves. Then again it takes me forever to get warmed up to where I am burning calories unless it is something like Insanity where I am dying by the time I am done with the w/up:eek: I hate his warm ups!!!

Lori-thanks for the info on Amy, and don't worry about the duh. I didn't get the tgu's when you were talking about kb's. You and Debbie can keep rockin' the Lowmax, for some reason I do not care for that one

Hermia-that yoga workouts was a Gaiam Rodney Yee one. It has one for flexibility and one for strength. Your class sounds like it was a lot of fun, did you get a good stretch along w/ the cardio?

Morning Maniacs -

This morning I did Jennifer Galardi's 10 Min Solution Dance Mix. Workout was 60 minutes with Cathe stretch and I burned 600 calories. Max HR was 152.

I really don't know what to do with my rotation. I'm up 5 pounds or so. Not sure if it's from not doing enough cardio recently. My eating hasn't been great over the last couple of weeks due to my depression.

Right now I'm doing those 3 TA days, 2 Val Waters and 1 or 2 cardio depending if I take a rest day or not. I skipped my rest day today to do cardio since the scale is up. I know I don't drink enough water either since I stand around at work for 3 hours waiting for a sale and if I run to the bathroom, I miss one of my only sales.....so I've basically hardly been drinking water.

Have great workouts everyone.

Workout done. TRX/KB circuit 2 x 1 min w/ 1 min rest between rounds. Time was 50min and I burned 476 calories. I am going to feel this one for sure

1.pushups or trx incline bench press
suitcase deadlift w/ kb (switch after 30 sec)
2. trx body weight row or one arm row (switch after 30 sec if using one arm row)
...side lunges w/ kb (one leg for 30 sec or alternate)
3. kb swings
overhead lunge (switch after 30 sec)-I hate this exercise so I know I needed to add it
4. high pulls (30 sec per side) or snatch into a shoulder press (30 sec per side)
skull crushers (bicep curl to overhead press to tricep ext and back down)
5.windmills (30 sec per side)
figure 8 to hold

Today was suppose to be Cardio & Weights but I'm having a bowel movement problem. I know, tmi, but that's the deal. I'm in some pain and hopefully soon I will be better. Not sure what's going on, I haven't changed my eating habits. Plus I haven't had anything to eat since around 7 p.m. last night. So what the heck could still be inside?

Anyways, I'm itching to do STS again so I think I'm going to start that rotation soon. I'm trying to decide if I'll take this week as an active recovery week and just do cardio a couple times until June 7th. Then I'll start STS. I think that's the route I'll go. I am very frustrated because I've been doing the endurance rotation I made up for 7 weeks now and haven't lost one freakin' pound. Not one. I'm holding at 137.2# and have been there forever.

I think when I start STS I'll keep track of my eats again. I may do the three low days, one high and see how that goes. I gotta control my eating and get back to being serious or I'm going to just keep gaining and I don't want that.

Gotta get my mind right so that's what I'll do this next week.

I hope you all have the best Memorial Day weekend! Luckily no rain in our forcast so I'm happy about that. Hoping to do some riding this weekend.

Theresa - Like the combinations and sequencing of exercises you did - looks like it was tough. Had to laugh about your comment on overhead lunges - I do the same thing - begrudgingly including burpees etc. It's good though, I've gotten much better at them. Don't know that I like them better, though :p Did DH join you today?

Lora - Don't suppose you can keep a water bottle behind the counter (but then you'd be afraid to leave and go to the bathroom, huh)? Did you like the dance workout? Good cal burn there. Hope your day goes ok - thank goodness you have tomorrow off :D

Debbie - DS has that problem sometimes - he has quite a high pain tolerance and it kicks his little butt  Not tmi, those intestinal issues are definitely in the way when it comes to working out. Starting STS again always gets me kinda psyched - Woo Hoo :D

Diane Sue - Your post last night worried me a bit, but was glad you said you knew you needed to re-evaluate your rotation. I don't know how tall you are, but unless it's under 5 feet, size zero's slipping off is not a good thing  After Theresa's comments about Tonique, I probably shouldn't have even asked if it was "fun" - laughed at your response, though. I do not, however, want that woman to steal my backside, so maybe I'll put off ordering her workouts ;) . I know you're informed and knowledgeable in this area (working out), so I don't need to worry at you about burning up the muscle mass you're working so hard to build. You are just so conscientious and push yourself so hard. That can be good unless we cross a certain line - sometimes we don't always see for ourselves when we've done that (I have quite a history in that department myself and need to be careful not to project that onto other people). Hope I didn't overstep a boundary with my concern, but I'd have felt kind of ... fake, had I not expressed it. You are such a cool lady and you inspire me so much. I just ... care :D

I wrote up an interval workout for myself last night (25/15). Got a little overzealous. When I counted, there were 110  !!! Toned it down - It's still almost an hour long and pretty intense. I think I'm gonna try it. In workouts like this, there's a point where I go sort of numb (and maybe a bit delirious). It isn't so bad after that  :p. We'll see how it goes. Tonight I'll do S & H/ Slo Mo bi's and tri's to finish up this series.

That's cool when you guys put together your own workouts. I don't do that often. I think if I did, I might put together kind of easy workouts for myself, lol. That's why I like dvds. =)
No workout yet today (I'll workout in the evening), but I'm sore from yoga yesterday! I thought it would be my shoulders but it's my tris and my hips a bit. It was definitely a good workout, but no, not a ton of stretches. She had us doing a slow section and then we sped up, and after the first slow section, she was like, "ok, our first fast section is coming up", and I totally thought we were already in the fast section. Alas. Well, I'll definitely be back for that next week!

I hope you get lots of sales, Lora. Do do you alternate with the other ladies when customers come in, or is it just free for all?

Hermia - Your yoga interval class makes me wish there were yoga studio's around here. I've never heard of anything like that before. I'd think you'd have to feel pretty solid in your basic form on different poses, though. I still find myself needing time to get adjusted and feel like I'm really aligned properly. Moving that fast, I'd probably look a bit sloppy to someone that knew what they were doing (I'd still like to try it :) ). You're more diligent about practicing consistently (much more), so I bet it was great for you. Glad you found something you really like, that's challenging and new. You're getting good workouts in - has your schedule lessened at all for the summer? I keep hoping it will. Have fun tonight, whatever you decide to do :D

Had a great interval workout. Yeow. It was almost too hard, but I think that's good -- really had to push. I did try to strategically stick a couple rounds of ab work in - or some other less intense move (like a jumping jack alternated with a roundhouse kick -- something like that), every now and then so I could recover a little. The workout was a bit over an hour long (not counting warm up or cool down). It seemed shorter than that - went really fast. I think this is because there was a lot of variety and I had to keep checking the sheet where I'd written it out to see what was next. Looking back, I'd say it was a lot of fun. I'm not sure I realized that while I was doing it  Funny how that works sometimes ;) Need to take DS to soccer practice. I will bring my textbook and study.

Hope you're all having a good Saturday.

Lori

Lori - I do keep a water bottle, but yes, I hardly drink any cuz then I'll have to run to bathroom.

Hermia - yes, when I am there with my coworker, we alternate, but sometimes when it's "your turn", you wait 3 hours before you get a sale .....and then we ALWAYS run to the bathroom. She can go without going for a longggggggg time, but I cannot. I drink a lot of water in the mornings with my workouts, so I usually have more trouble having to leave my area in the early hours....especially when it's before my coworker gets there or on my days off. Such is the life of retail.

I'm trying to decide what to do for my workout tomorrow. Originally I intended alternating weeks of doing 2 of Val's circuits with 3 Tracy's and 3 of Val's and 3 of Tracy's with one day of cardio.....but I'm a bit sore today and not sure if I should just do pure cardio tomorrow and not follow my rotation. I don't know if only 2 days of Val's circuit a week or enough.

Workout was Tracey's Steady State Step 56 minutes 347 calories Max HR 139, Tracey's High Intensity Step Mix 2 Premix that has the w/up, intervals, abs and skipped the total body segment and stretch 23 minutes 144 calories Max HR 153, then I added Amy's Hi/Lo Knockout abs using 10# dumbbells 9:45 minutes 42 calories burned, I finished with Jillian's Yoga Meltdown Level 3 29 minutes 107 calories. Total calories burned 640 workout time 1 hr 58 minutes..

Debbie, sorry you are having problems. I have had that happen with using calcium carbonate. Sometimes motrin can do that to me. Hope you get to feeling better. That is miserable.

Lori, I am 5'4 and right now weigh 117 so not that bad. Thanks for worrying:D I know I cannot stick with that type of workout too long. I think I am going to stick with Slo Mo. Then do some kettlebell workouts with that. Not sure what I will do for cardio. I took off the pant size from my post because I felt some people might not want to keep hearing that. I do have a pair of size 3's that fit. Pant sizes vary with brand as we all know. I get 0's in Levis and Old Navy. I have 3's in some Merona Target pants, 1's in Kohl's Soho. Would like more muscle in the glute area but I do not want to gain around the middle which is where I tend to want to gain. Middle, outer thighs. So, generally heavy weights works for me with some cardio.

Hermia, that sounds like an interesting yoga class. Some of those yoga workouts can be a lot harder than some would think.

Lora, that is too bad that you feel forced to eliminate water. That can effect how you feel a lot. The only time I do that is when we travel in the car. I would be in big trouble because I can go before I go out the door and arrive somewhere 30 minutes later and need to head to the restroom. I carry a bottle of water everywhere. Forgot to take it with me when we went to my grandson's birthday party today so afterward we went to look at cars(just looking) and I told dh I wish I had my water. He came out of the building with me a bottle of water:D

Theresa, another Kettlebell TRX workout that looks great:D
