Hairspray Soundtrack

My daughters went to see this movie as soon as it came out and immediately downloaded as many songs off of the internet as they could. I bought the soundtrack for Faith's 13th birthday last week and have been listening to it ad nauseum ever since Actually it's pretty entertaining to hear the 3 of them cleaning up the kitchen and rocking out to it. I suppose it's how my parents felt when I got the 'Grease' soundtrack 25 years ago and pretty much wore the record out It's so cool that John Travolta has managed to touch yet another generation, appropriately enough one of the songs he/she sings on is (You're) Timeless to Me.

My mom and I took my 8 year old daughter to see it last month and she just adored it! I have a feeling that we'll be buying it when it comes out on DVD...I'll have to get her the soundtrack. She loves musicals! She really loves Bye Bye Birdie and Singin' in the Rain as well

Laurie, what a cute story! So true about John Travolta, and I hadn't thought about that!!

I think "Hairspray" the movie AND the soundtrack are precious! Actually, on the RT this year we used one of the songs from the soundtrack ("You Can't Stop the Beat") in the special breakneck-pace mix CD we made up for the Friday night Fitness Relay Race. Road Trippers, did any of you notice that or were you moving way too fast? ;-)

It so strange to me that what was originally a John Waters film is something kids watch and listen to. It's just so freaky!

I liked the soundtrack from the original John Waters film. It had music from that time, some popular, as well as some regional favorites from the Baltimore area.

As far as Travolta is concerned, he's no Divine. (but really, who could take his/her place!?)

I'm just wondering if they'll do a musical/film remake of "Polyester," "Pink Flamingos," or "Female Trouble"?:7

As usual, Tete, you took the words right out of my..um..fingers! Who would have ever imagined that kids would be seeing something that was originally a John Waters film? It seems like these days they'll turn anything they can into a Broadway Musical. If they go anywhere near Polyester I'll go postal. Is nothing sacred from the Broadway blandifying machine??
