Had a hard time following step blast!!

Hi..I tried step blast for the first time today and I could not follow certain segments (ok, most of them). Cathe is all over the place. I got step blast with imax2. I am trying to add more cardio to my routine and these are my first Cathe "step" workouts. Any of you have a hard time in the beginning following the patterns?? I felt like a huge klutz.. any tips that help you? I think the workout would be "big fun" once I can follow it..very high energy..help!

Don't worry - you are definitely not alone. The choreography was very intimidating to me at first but now I see it as a fun challenge (and I am choreography challenged). In fact, I have done IMAX 2 four times and there are still a few sections that I do not have down yet. Believe me, I've fallen off the step many times in several different workouts - more times than I care to count :) Trust me, you will the the hang of it and it will get easier. Also, if it helps, focus on one segment at a time until you have it and then move on - Dani gave me this tip when I first started Cathe and it has helped me alot (Thanks Dani:)) It has also helped me to focus on what Cathe is saying. Hope this helps and don't give up - Good Luck.

I had a real hard time with this work out too but I have to say it
is a BLAST!!!!

I am choregraphicaly (SP?) challenged and would easily get frustrated because I couldn't do the moves which made me feel like I wasn't getting a good workout. What I ended up doing was taking one piece of the workout ......say the warm-up (which is challenging if you have two left feet, which I do) and adding it on to one of my other workouts. I kept on doing this until I felt comfortable with it. Then I began to learn combo one, added it with the warm-up....practice..practice....practice. Then I learned combo two...practice....practice....and so on. Today for the first time I did the entire tape...challenges and all!!!!! It is so much fun!
I will admit I still had a tough time putting it altogether but I do feel now I will just get better and better at it. I also didn't get frustrated and overwhelmed. Learning this tape in pieces, instead of all at once helped me. Maybe this will help you too!

Remember if we could do it all the first time....where would the challenge be?

Good Luck!

Karen:)

Hi, I was fumble footed and fumble headed the first time I tried this one. I kept playing the tricky parts over and over at slower speed until I understood them and could repeat them. I had this workout down pat the third time I did it. I also found that after learning one of Cathe's more complex step workouts that the learning curve for other step workouts decreases. You have to go through a liite bit of awkwardness in the beginning to reap the true benefits of this workout and then the blast begins.

It's definitely easier to "get" Cathe's step choreography if you've made your way through her earlier workouts. I haven't had much trouble with her more recent step workouts (at least, not with folloowing the choreography) because I had this "apprenticeship" with her earlier workouts, and I also preview the workouts in their entirety (and have my mental "mini-me" follow along!) at least once before I try them out. When I see what looks like a more complicated move, I purposefully count out the beat and figure out what foot goes where on what beat. I can usually get about 85-90% of the choreo the first time out this way.

KarenL your idea is a good one..thats what I'll do I'll add one section of StepBlast to my daily workout routine and then move on to the next section once I have one mastered. That way I can learn it in bits. I am glad to know I am not the only one who has stared at the video and stood there and went..DUH! Counting beats is also a good idea!! I wanna learn this routine cuz it seems fun!!:D }(

Step Blast was the first Cathe workout I ever attempted. I'd been doing the Firm for a year before that. I fell off my step, was turned around the wrong way, was on the other side of the step..... A mess, really.

But practice makes perfect!! After sitting and watching it through once without doing the workout, a lot of things made more sense. I watched the fast foot repeater segment about 5 times!!

Now that I've done the workout a good 12-15 times, I can mostly do it. I still mess up. I still fumble. But I get a great workout! It's so fun and I'm thinking so hard about where to put my feet that the time just flies. Until that blast challenge with the tuck jumps and plyo jacks. Then my legs catch on fire. :)

Most definitely!! It took me forever to figure out the third combo, and I still think there are parts I don't do right - LOL!! It's a lot of fun - stick with it!!

Good for you! And don't feel bad, I've been doing it at least once a week for MONTHS and yesterday I fell off the step during the double ricochets and crashed into a wooden arm chair. Didn't hurt myself though so a definite 10.0 for the dismount ;o)

Dear Groundhog, you can NOT be the huge klutz that I am. It takes me forever to learn ANY choreography. The stuff in CTX took me months! I never did get Rhythmic Step down very well.

But with DVDs it's a lot easier. I used that workout blender to learn Step Blast. For example, I programmed it to play the warmup, the first combo three times, and then the cool down. This way I don't have to stop and rewind.

When I figured the first combo out (it took forever) I then programmed the player to play the warmup, the first combo, the second combo three times and then the cool down. That took me about two weeks, and then I was ready to move on.

I learned the third combo the same way and I'm just now getting through the Step Challenge, which is a lot of fun but hard for a klutz like me.

Another help is to learn sections with a shorter step than you are used to. When you're tired, you can't concentrate. So if you usually use 8", make it 6". If you usually use 6" make it 4".
