Guns, Guts and Glutes...

Well, I do love GGG so I just ordered Mindy's All Out Cardio and Gliding Extreme...they were on sale for $17.95 and I got free shipping. Very excited! I did get some furniture movers and am loving them! They are soooo much better than paper plates!

I'll let you know what I think of the workouts after I get them dvds and try them out. If anyone has done the workouts already, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Hey all...

Just a quick update on All Out Cardio, Best of Bootcamp and Gliding Extreme (yes, I caved and got all three).

All Out Cardio - The non-interval sections (Jump, Kick & Strong) are short and sweet - challenging, but won't give you the 'gasping for air' feeling. I don't think any of these segments is more than 20 minutes. The intervals, however, do kick things up a notch (or seven), with lots and lots of burpees or burpee variations. The nice thing about this DVD is that it includes many premixes that can make your workout a hard, harder or "please don't ask me to do one more jump or burpee" kind of routine. It has many options, and Mindy is her usual pleasant, chatty self. I will say that her form in the Kick section isn't great, but she admits this several times, and says, "As you can tell, I'm not a kickboxer, but I'm havin' fun". This is filmed on a set similar to the one used in Guns, Guts and Glutes, and again she has her son Chris join her for the interval sections.

Gliding Extreme - This was surprisingly difficult (for me at least). It took me a few tries to get the feel of the gliding discs and learn to really pay attention to my form and balance, but it is great for those that are looking for a low-impact, high intensity routine that emphasizes strength, balance and lengthening. The cardio factor wasn't that high, but it does raise your heart rate somewhat and keeps it there throughout the workout until the end when Mindy has you do floorwork (which I had to pause a couple of times because my muscles were screaming!). This was filmed outdoors in a meadow (I think), and the music is OK, but I don't think either of these things takes away from the workout itself.

Best of Bootcamp - I only did the 25 minute 'Best of Bootcamp' workout on this one, and I have to say, it is on par with one of Cathe's HIIT workouts. It consists of 20 different bootcamp style intervals, with almost no rest in between. The rest of the DVD includes Mindy demonstrating different bootcamp exercises that you can substitute or add on to your bootcamp workout. In these she either uses her bodyweight, a medicine ball or gliding discs. One section is dedicated to partner exercises which she demonstrates with her husband, so if you have someone that can workout with you, this is a nice section to review for ideas. This DVD is also filmed outside on the beach, again the music is just OK, but the 'Best of Bootcamp' workout alone is well worth the price of the DVD. And I have to say, at 50+ years old (or any age for that matter), Mindy looks incredible, which is very inspirational for me as I am only 5 years away myself!

I hope this enables, I mean helps you decide whether these are for you. I'd love to hear other folks' feedback as well. Enjoy!

Thanks for your review, Karen! I decided not to get her new bootcamp at this time, but after your review perhaps that will be my next purchase (yes, you are an enabler! :D)

I agree, Mindy looks amazing, and I too am 45. One of the things that cracks me up during GGG is that Mindy does the tougher exercises than her son - and clearly she is in much better shape than he is. It is just so nice to see the older, woman being the fitter person.

I am looking forward to my new workouts...I can't figure out which one I will do first!

Karen! Thanks so much for your review of best of bootcamp. I was about to give it to a personal trainer I know because I felt like it was too teachy. But after I read your review I did best of bootcamp two times through and burnt 570 calories. Killer. Worth it just for that HIIT.

Thanks again,
Laura

PS I have to say that was tougher than any of Cathe's HIIT workouts and felt almost tougher than Insanity but it could have been the day too.

i'm still eyeing GGG, will likely get it one day but I'm in no rush. didn't these go on sale around the Holidays? maybe i'll wait till then. i have 7 more Cathe DVD's in my shopping cart right now!

oh WOW...I finally got this workout & it is tough!! whew...have only done the stability ball section and barely made it thru. the other 2 w/o's I don't have the equipment for yet but won't be tough to get. just a soft 2 lbs med ball & a figure 8 tubing.
i really am amazed at how easy she makes it look! can't wait to try the other sections.

also bought All About Arms & All About Legs (plus some other ones that are interval w/o's) as they were on clearance for $4.95. can't beat that!

had to have something to keep me busy until the new Low Impact Series arrives!!

i think these type of workouts are perfect for variety & also to compliment heavy weight training.
