GS chest and triceps: how to keep lats out of tri work?

Hi Cathe,

I am loving the Gym style workouts, and did Chest and tris this morning for the first time. I found in the kickbacks, particularly with band work, that I really seemed to be recruiting my lats more than my triceps. In fact, my lats are really having doms right about now!

Can you give me any tips for avoiding lat involvement and isolating the tricep on this one? with thanks,

Hi Christine! It will be impossible to elimate the lat involvement as it is used while performing this exercise in addition to working the tricep. Try giving yourself a little more play in the band so that you are able to open up your range of motion and extend your arm to the top of the movement, giving the tricep muscle full involvement.
 
Thanks! I will try that. I think there is a bit of a learning curve with the bands, if you're not accustomed to using them. But they do burn!
