GRRR - Road test for driver's license today

Aquajock

Cathlete
After practicing faithfully for 90 days, I am scheduled to take my road test for my driver's license in about an hour. It's been a fairly interesting, and humiliating, experience learning mystical skills like not changing lanes in an intersection, not drifting to the right when checking the speedometer, yielding to cyclists and pedestrians (just an aside - who told them they could be on MY road?!) and of course, the Transcendental Parallel Parking.

I've also spent a great deal of time polling the 16-year-old children of friends of mine, and THEIR friends, to get a leg up on the down-and-dirty realities of the road test. Thus far none have told me who among the testers can be bribed. They've gotten a big kick out of me, from what I understand - I've noticed that each time I ask one of these little creatures about the RT, they tell me, then whip out their cell phones and text their friends and giggle.

Wish me luck, Cathletes! (And wish my test administrator luck too! S/He probably needs it more!)

Good luck A-Jock! Just keep saying to yourself "I think I can...I think I can" because we know you can! ;)

Sending ALL KINDS of positive energy -- but we know you'll be great!! Let us know all about it when it's over!

You will do just fine. Remember, the test is really subjective. What you think you may mess up doing may not be noticed by the "tester" at all. You will do fine!!

Good Luck A-Jock!!

I have complete confidence in your ability to pass this test;) Are you taking the test on an on-site mini course (like in Arden Hills) or one that takes you out on regular roads? Both my kids took theirs in Stillwater because they test on regular roads and was considered to be easier than the on site mini courses.

Go A-Jock, go! Just think a whole new world will open up for you with that driver's license. I'm wishing you lots of luck!!!

Best of luck, but I guess you are probably in the midst of your test right now, doing just fine!! We are all so proud of you for coming this far. I remember when I first found this forum, one of the first things I read was about you not driving. Now look at you, chic :D BTW - I read on another thread that you had gotten a new piece of equipment, but missed the thread that said what it is...so, what did you get??

Good luck to you! Don't forget the 10 and 2 hand positions, adjust your mirrors, put on your seat belt...what am I forgetting? Oh yeah, relax and start the car!

Go, AJock, Go!! You can do it!!

(Oh and the good news is that if I could pass on my first try, it'll be a piece of cake for you, darlin'.....;))

Good Luck and You Can Do This! Please let us know how it went. I took my road test later in life--in my 40's--and was scared witless--especially when a squirrel ran out in front of the car and I muttered something about not killing squirrels. All the Best!

Thanks, everyone! Obviously, as I posted anew a few minutes ago, I bombed. Ah well - there's always next time.

NinjaMom, I took the test on the closed course in Plymouth, and I'll do it again in a couple three weeks. Now that I know what it feels like, it shouldn't be too bad. HAH!

now i slink back to my cave of shame . . .

If at first you don't succeed try, try again. It worked for JFK, JR taking the bar exam. You can do it A-Jock! ;):D

I can't even imagine how I'd do if I had to take a road test again. I only had to once (and it's been 30+ years and in a different state from where I now live), and it wasn't even on the "road" it was in a parking-lot type of setup, lasted about 5 minutes and I never had to parallel park. I probably wouldn't pass it today so my sympathies are with you!! Now that you know what to expect I'm sure you'll pass the next time around.

Oh, and I didn't think it was 10 and 2 anymore as far as proper hand positioning on the steering wheel since if the airbag pops out you'll hit yourself in the face in that position. Is that true, Ajock??

CatAddict, I have NO idea on that one! However, I kept my hands in the 10/2 throughout the bomb - er, the test and the tester never called me out on it during or afterward - and trust me, he was quite detailed in his list of my screw-ups little and big.

I saw a myth similar to this busted on Mythbusters. I think some people have change the 10 and 2 recommendation. I am terrible about it. I basically drive with one hand at 6!
