groin strain

I feel a bit embarrassed but I seem to have developed a groin strain on the right hand side. Plie squats and straddle stretches are painful and I can't go wide because of pain. I was wondering if anyone else had had something similar and how they recovered?

I suppose not doing plie squats is the obvious one but any suggestions/tips welcome. :)

Ronne - Don't be embarressed, it happens! I was a goalie in college and remember warming up for a game and while diving to save a ball, I pulled something "there". It was AWFUL!!! I could barely walk and the game had not yet begun. I still played cuz' I was psycho like that (and we had no back-up). It's actually kind of funny because in that game alone I ended up with a broken toe, a broken finger, and a pulled groin muscle (but hey we tied and ended up going on to the Championship). The "groin" hurt the most though and I honestly thought I had done some serious damage. Basically, the only thing they (yes I ended up in the hospital after the game) told me I could do was take it easy. I applied ice right after it happened and then kept heat on it after that - and took plenty Advil. I would definitely stay away from the plie squats and straddle stretches for a little while. Hopefully someone else will have some suggestions for you.

Hi Ronne,

I would definitely take some Advil and rest until it feels better. My sister had a groin strain and continued to workout with the pain. It finally got so bad (she could barely lift her leg) that she had to stop working out altogether for at least 3 months. I would take it easy for a couple of days just in case.

I had a groin strain about 3 years ago, when I took up running. I didn't listen to ANY of the advice I was given, so it took a very very long time to completely heal up. Finally, I got wise and decided to change the impact of my workouts. I cut out running and any step I did, I kept it low impact....no jumping on that side, no plie squats or inner thigh work. NONE! It eventually went away, but PLEASE rest it to let it heal.

like everyone else...rest is the best medicine. when you get back into exercising, stretch alot after exercises that involve squats, high step, lunges, or anything w/plyometrics. i usually stretch for at least 20 minutes on days when i do these types of exercises. i hope feel better soon.

Similar injury happened to me recently - and I totally panicked! I've never had an injury in all my yearsof exercise. But, my friend who's a nurse said that Aleve is actually better for that type of pain than Advil. So, I just kept taking 3 tablets about 3-4x/day for several days, rested that area and used ice after activity or if I felt any "pulling" & I felt back to normal in about 7-10 days.

HTH!
