Got tunes that pop into your head regularly?

A large variety of songs, tunes, jingles, etc., run through my head from day to day, but I've got unshakable regulars! They just POP in, and I start singing or whistling them before I even know it! They've been rattling around for years. Here are a few:

1. "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!"
2. Peter's theme, from Peter and the Wolf.
3. Luke & Leia's theme, from Star Wars.
4. A different romantic theme, also from Star Wars.
5. The main theme music from E.T.
6. This chorus: "you make me feel brand neeeeewww..."
7. A song that Captain Picard played on an ethnic flute in an episode of Star Trek: TNG, in which he lived another man's life in a dream-like state. Sort of. I've long forgotten the episode, but the SONG keeps popping into my head! No words.
8. A chorus from Verdi's opera, "Nabucco".

Anyone got some random regulars like these?

Gisela

I don't think I have regulars, but often someone will say something that reminds me of a lyric from a song and then that song will get stuck in my head all day. Usually it's some awful piece of garbage that I hate.:p

This morning, however, I have Space Oddity by David Bowie, so that's not so bad:)

Oh, there is one that pops up almost everyday. My sale pony's name is "Buttercup" (she came with that...it certainly wasn't my doing!) so whenever anybody says her name, of course we all launch into "Why do you build me up...Buttercup..." If this happens to fall on a day when I've done C&W in the morning, well it's all over for the rest of the day :+ ! I always chuckle when Cathe says "You'll be singing this one for the rest of the day." How does she know these things? That's why I avoid calling my pony by her given name and just call her Bee.

Take care,

Wendi

Tunes don't usually pop into my head, but stupid jingles are always popping into my DH's, who will then whistle them incessantly. I have to keep snapping,"Stop that, stop that," as he whistles the commercial songs from Dunkin Donut or the theme from the 3 stooges.

my 2 nieces and nephew,1-4 yrs, remind me of songs that stick in my head-old mcdonald had a farm, the itzy butzy spider, wheels on the bus,etc

Random tunes will pop into my head for no apparent reason ("The 'do do doot, do do doot, do do doot, doot" part from "Shaft" was the most recent one!). There really aren't any recurring ones, though (called "ear worms").

(Though, now, the "Peter and the Wolf" theme is running through my mind!).

Lately my DD (who's 3) keeps singing the Menards jingle, so it's stuck in my head ALL the time. I also frequently have songs from the Sound of Music, probably because my DD's name is Liesel!

Ever since DH and I vacationed in the country in Indiana I have not been able to get "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" from Oklahoma out of my head. I couldn't sleep last night so to entertain myself I did a little shopping on Amazon and I bought the soundtrack--lol! I got the one from the 1955 movie with Gordon McCrae and Shirley Jones.

Unfortunately, I have a real Alle McBeale problem where I have a continous soundtrack of songs in my head for almost every occassion. I am (bad) loud car singer.

1. Everytime I get on a plane I hum "Leaving on a Jet Plane"
2. When thing go wrong at work I hear, "You Can't Win" (Michael Jackson sings this song in "The Wiz")
3. Whenever I am running the last couple yards is always, "RockStar" by NERD (?)
4. Whenever I am showering, "Rubber Ducky" which Ernie sings on Sesame Street (every day for like 25 years people ridiculous)

Literally hundreds of pieces of songs in my head all day. My husband says my humming and singing drives him crazy. I know I am not insane because my sister does the same thing.

Earworms-that's what I'm talking about! Just finally read a little blurb about it yesterday in an older issue of Discover magazine.

Here are a couple quotes:

"Having a song, tune, or commercial jingle stuck in one's head is a phenomenon known as having an earworm."

And here's what made me laugh--

"Earworms occur more often among women, musicians, and individuals who tend to worry."

Well, I am a woman, a musician, AND an individual who tends to worry. (I started a thread here about being a pessimist).

Here's the link to what I read:

Saxophonist (among other instruments) here, and I have a severe case of earworms. If I hear certain songs, they haunt me for the rest of the day and I usually fall asleep singing them. Especially that Sponge Bob theme song. My DD's get great pleasure out of torturing me with them.

I have also been accused of having a song for everything. When my DD's were growing up, I used to sing to them all the time (still do - but they LIKED it back then).

When the kids were young, they also would watch a cartoon over and over and over and over... (y'all with kids know what I mean). I one time spent a rainy weekend with Winnie the Pooh. That Monday I went to work and proclaimed to my office that "I'm just a little black rain cloud..." That one gets stuck too. I wish I had a "skip" button in my brain sometimes!

Oh, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! "I'm just a lit-tle black rain-CLOUD...hovering over...the honey tree,"

Thanks! Well, that's a cute one at least.

So, I'll bet that not only do you hear this music all day, and sing it as you go to sleep--but then you also WAKE UP with it still running!

That Winnie the Pooh song is one that I had to finally learn all the words to, so that as long as it was going to run through my head, at least I didn't have to make up "da da da" syllables to go with it!

"Oh I wish I was an Oscar Mayer weiner,
That is what I'd truly like to be
Cuz if I was an Oscar Mayer weiner
Everyone would be in love with meeeee.."

Not daily, but frequently. OK, so who's going to be humming this one all day now?!

Hi,

For the last few weeks, that stupid 'Choco-sticks' TV commercial song keeps popping into my head. I hate that ad!!

Daily here!!! But I share it with everyone I can so I'm not alone with this running through my mind. :p

My niece has been teaching my daughter all kinds of wonderful songs. She tried "My bologna has a first name" but she can't remember all the words...hahaha!

Does anyone have their OWN tunes running through their head at times?

When I clean (which is not my favorite activity), I sometimes will sing a wordless little ditty that may go something like 'chicka-chicka-boom, chicka-boom, chicka-boom" (guess I'm not quite ready to enter the "write a song for American Idol contest, huh?).
