Hi everyone!

I am a Step/Cathe fan and I exercise at least 5 times a week.
I was wondering if anyone would recommend a good pair of tennis shoes for stepping. Is there a better choice regarding brand? I find the Nikes a little bit narrow,I currently own Ryka,(I like also Avia) but I am not aware of any style specifically design for stepping. Thank you!

I think you can't go wrong with Ryka. These are the best shoes for anything. But that is just my opinion. The ones I am currently using are the Ryka Evolution E.T.S. Great shoes. I use these for low-impact as well as Intense Moves by Gin Miller.

I have Avia's that I got at D!ck's Sporting Goods for like $30.00, and I like them just fine. I've also had Reebok's and New Balance and like them just fine, too.

Feet are a funny thing, and like our bodies and exercise, what works for one may not work for another.

I've finally, after a year of comparing/contrasting realized that for cardio (step/kickbox/hi-lo) my feet are happiest in Rykas!
Reeboks were just too heavy and didn't allow my feet the flexibility I seem to need, especially for step. New Balances were okay for kickboxing for me, but again, the flexibility wasn't there for me during step and hi-lo. I also tried Avia, they were fine, especially for cushioning, but I wore through them in 2 months.
I've come to the realization that for overall comfort during cardio, Rykas are the shoe for me.
I've used Re-Alchemy, Stylus and Purl for stepping, and the Ryka Combo (a xtrainer) for kickboxing and hi-lo. I've learned to alternate between 2 pair of shoes for both shoe longevity and for the sake of giving the shoes a chance to dry out between workouts.
I believe certain websites, like Ryka and northlandmarine both give a description with the shoe as to whether its a studio shoe (aerobics) or a cross training shoe.

Good luck with whatever you decide, just make your feet happy :)

Unfortunately, Ryka does not make shoes for those of us with wider feet. I once wrote to their online customer service address and asked about it, and the lady answered saying that, no, they didn't make shoes for wider widths and they really had no plans to in the future.

New Balance is the only shoe I have been able to fit in comfortably that makes a variety of widths, including wide widths.

I know Reebok makes wider widths too, but the shoes was not only wide up front, but in back too, and they nearly slipped right off my feet! The average width Reeboks were too tight.

Anyway, good luck!

ASICS are good for wider feet also. Sometimes I just buy the men's shoes, sometimes the women's work.

Are ASICS comparable in price to New Balance? Kohl's just had New Balance shoes on sale for $39.99. I got myself a pair of 608s even though I really didn't need them yet, but I couldn't pass up the price. Usually they ask about $60 for them.

I'm going to look into the ASICS for my next pair, I think.
