Good "entry level" training program

Hello!

I am coming back to Cathe after dabbling off and on for a few years. I have also been exercising off and on for a few years and am not new to weight training, step aerobics, or even yoga/stretch work.

I am certainly NOT ready for STS!! (Although it looks really good). However,I would really like to start something with a three day split. Some kind of a training program that would offer just that. I can supplement the inbetween days with my own cardio, so that is not a big deal.

I was thinking of the Gym Style Series, Slow and Heavy Series, or the Pure Strength Series (how long are each of these workouts?). They all seem to work that way.

Which one of these workouts would be more suited to someone who needs to get their fitness level back up? I'm not a total newbie, but I could use some gradual entry. Then someday, STS. I can only dream (for now).

Thanks!

Hi from another Lori, :)

Honestly, I think you can go with STS, but I understand not wanting to jump right back into things full tilt. If it's any help, STS is based on your personal 1 rep max, so the weight selections are suited just for you and your current level of strength. You won't be asked to do anything crazy or unreasonable, and if you're not new to either Cathe or weight training, I doubt you'd find STS over your head.

I don't have Pure Strength, but the Gym Styles and S&H workouts are about an hour each. (It's been a while since I've used them, but I don't remember them being much shorter or longer.)

I really enjoy GS and S&H, so I feel you can't go wrong with either. If you don't own this already, check out the Pyramids too.

Welcome back!

Hi Lori,

I don't have the Pure Strength Series but I have the Gym Style Series and Slow and Heavy. Between those I really love the Gym Style Series. I believe Back, Shoulders and Biceps and Legs are around 60 minutes or a little longer. Chest and Triceps is a little under a minute. The Premixes are good on these as well. I do like Slow and Heavy as well but if I had to pick I would go with the Gym Style Series first.
