Getting a puppy

Hi all. I'm a bit nervous.....I am getting a puppy. I'm meeting him today, but will bring him home Tues. after he's neutered. I have had dogs my whole life, but never a young pup like this-he's 3.5 months. Does anyone have any tips? Anything you did wrong that I should avoid? He's a doll and the rescue lady gives him glowing reviews (of course). Here he is:

I just don't want to make a mistake!

Awwww He is so cute . Just Love him to death !!! And get a little puppy care book .. Have fun !!Since it sounds like your a dog person ,I'm sure you two will be just fine !!!

He's so cute! (but "Gordy"?)
I'm not a dog person, so I don't have any advice (except to train him to not jump up and lick faces!), but I wanted to thank you for adopting a rescued dog instead of going to a pet store or a breeder.

Enjoy your new family member! Wishing you many long years of happiness together!

Kathryn his name will NOT stay Gordy lol. I really wanted a female cuz I like the name Macy. My son says that is too "girly" for a boy dog. So I think we're settling on Mace (but I'll call him Macy lol).

I know there are so MANY dogs that need homes and I didn't specifically seek out a puppy. The dog I thought we were getting was 18 months old. The rescue lady was a real prize-she gave him to someone else the day before I was supposed to pick him up because she thought he "bonded" better with the other people.

The only thing with rescue vs. shelter is the cost--it's not cheap!! But I wanted a dog that was living with "foster parents" to be sure of it's real social behavior. I just think dogs at shelters are not their real selves when they are in a loud shelter with many other animals.

And he will be going to puppy school!

HOW EXCITING!! OUR PUPPY IS NOW ONE YEAR OLD BUT SHE WAS 9 WEEKS OLD WHEN WE GOT HER. I HAVE HAD DOGS MY WHOLE LIFE TOO BUT NEVER THIS YOUNG!! IT WAS CHALLENGING AT FIRST BUT I FOUND IF I MADE SURE SHE GOT LOTS OF EXERCISE AND I WAS COMMITED TO THE TRAINING, WE WERE FINE. MY HUSBAND LEARNED THE HARD WAY ABOUT LEAVING SHOES AND HATS OUT WHERE SHE WOULD GET THEM!! JUST REMEMBER TO BE PATIENT AND YOU WILL DO GREAT!! HAVE FUN!!

Thanks Becki. :) I bought lots of chew toys and I am home most of the time (work from home except on Mondays) so he will be home with me for a week before he has to be alone. The big thing I think is that my sons and I need to be consist with training and what is and is not allowed.

I stopped at the library to get two puppy training books!

I love puppies- actually, I love any animal but especially puppies :7 . I have no training advise, just wanted to wish you joy and love with your new family member.
