Hi Donna!!
I just read a response that you had posted on "Medicine ball
?ion for lucky VHS'ers", and I am in the same boat as Roses (the person who asked the question)- I don't know what size ball to get. I was thinking of getting the 8 lb ball, but after reading your post, I'm thinking that it might just be too heavy. Then again, it might be not. So, I wanted to ask you what weights you usually use with Cathe workouts, and maybe that will help me to better determine if an 8 lb ball would suit me. BTW, I am not familiar with any of the exercises done with the med ball because I do not have the new series yet.

If I am similar to you, I will go ahead with the 8 pounder, but if you normally lift a lot heavier than me, I'll go with a 6.
When working with dumbbells, I usually stick with 8 lbs most of the time (depending on the exercise), but with a few exercises I have to go with 5 lbs, and then with others I can move up to 10 lbs. There is only one exercise I can use a 15# db on and that is on bent over rows (I'm pretty sure that is what they are called), and when doing this exercise, you only use 1 dumbbell anyway so maybe that is why I can do this with a heavier dumbbell. Plus, the weight doesn't go above my head, which is where I usually have more trouble with heavier weights.

But, like I said I use my 8 lb dumbbells more than I use any of my other dumbbells.

I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to read this and respond back.

Hi Marisa,

I tell you what I normally use for most upper body workouts:

For endurance type Cathe's:
5#-15#db with 8#-12# being the most used weights for shoulder, biceps and tricep work.

So an 8#ball really does challenge me and will challenge me for some time to come. If they were cheaper, I'd go get a 6#ball, but since they're not, I'll just "grow with" my 8#ball and continue to put it down when it gets too heavy.

Thanks Donna!

Well, I think that I will go ahead and get the 8 pounder also then. It sounds like I am similar to you with what I can lift, and the price thing is important to me. I checked them out on a website (Power Systems?) that Cathe had posted, but the 8 pounder was around 45 bucks!! :-wow And I can't imagine that the 6 pounders are much cheaper, so it would probably be better just to go with the eight instead of buying a six now and an eight later.

Thank you so much!! I appreciate your help!

Marisa :)

Awesome! Thanks! I will definitely check that out. Come to think of it....I think that I bought my step from that company because at the time, when I was looking for a step (about a year ago), they had the cheapest that I could find. Everyone else was selling the step for about $15 more!

Thanks for everything Donna! You've been a big help! ;-)
