Good Morning GMT :)

Today was S&H bicep and tricep (as if you didn't know!LOL) I think the only reason I got out of bed this morning was because it wasn't a cardio day!! I had a really good workout. I really enjoy Cathes commentary on this series.

Stats:
Tricep
Overhead Tri Extension: 3 sets 25#
lying extensions: 1 set 10, 2 sets 8# (note:10's were to heavy to do another set, but 8s were light. Maybe I should have done 10s again but only 6 reps?)
Kickbacks: 1 set 10#, 2 sets 8# (see above note)
dips: all with 35#BB on lap

Bicep
DB curls: 2 sets 15#, 1 set 12#
hammer curls: 1 set 15#, 2 sets 12# (poss. could have gone another set of 15# for 6 reps, again, unsure which way to go)
BB curl: same as Cathe 1 set 30#, 2sets 25#
both wrist curls: same as cathe

All in all a good workout. What do you guys think? next week should I continue to drop weight to do all 8 reps? or continue to do the heavier weight with 6 reps?

Gin~ We have a music teacher also, but she sings songs with the kids and plays the guitar. I think I am going to do more music appreciation, learn about instruments. I am going in this morning early, to discuss ideas with the director. I like how you sing stuff to the kids, we have a teacher who does that too:)

Marcy~ How was your workout today?

Tracee~ Did you work out today? It was weight work!!:)

Today is only going to be 65!!!! doing the happy dance and wearing my boots!!Have a great day all!!

Good Morning ladies.

I did get up to do S&H Bi & Tris today. I had a good workout and stayed pretty consistent with the weight that I had used in June for this workout.

Deanie - I'm in awe that you can do the tricep pullover with 25#, wow! That is one of the tougher exercises for me. I used 15# and was glad when the last rep was done. My answer to your question for next time would be to stay with the higher weight and do less reps. Congrats on being asked to do the music appreciation. That's great that you are getting so excited about it. Enjoy the 60 degree weather. I can handle the 60's but we barely hit 50 yesterday and that was too big of a change from what we had been getting.

Gin - I'm with you, I prefer the weather to be above 70 but unfortunately I don't get to see that for very long. That's cool that you sing to your students. I bet they will remember you for that for a very long time.

Marcy - Can't wait to hear how you like the new Kari Anderson workout. Wish I could buy more workouts but it's just not in the cards right now.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning!

Today was Step Works and B&G abs. It was the first time for Step Works and I have to say that the intensity was not very high, but the the step combos were complex for me. It will take a few times of doing it to get the pattern down.:p

Deanie--WTG with the weights today!! Let me know how you like doing the music.

Tracee--So glad you got up to do S&H Bi & Tri this morning! I really had a hard time getting up. This med. is making me so TIRED!x( It is cooler here today also. I would NEVER sing in front of adults, but I just sing to the children without even thinking about it. It really does help them to listen better. Maybe you should try it at home.;-)

Marcy--Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies!

Today was S&H Tris & Bis. I am still sore from Chest & Back (my lats are killing me) and today didn't make things much better. Luckily, I had a chair massage this morning which helped a little but I wish it could've lasted all day. Here are my stats:

Triceps:

Overhead Extension: 3 sets 23# (will go up to 25# next week)
Lying Extensions: Set 1 - 10#, Set 2 - 12#, Set 3 - 13#
Kickbacks: Set 1 - 10#, Sets 2 and 3 - 8#
Dips: no barbell today - will use one next week

Biceps}:)

Dbbl curls: Set 1 - 15#, Sets 2&3 - 13#
Hammer curls: 3 sets at 13#
Bbl curl: Set 1 - 30#, Sets 2&3 - 26#
Bbl wrist curl - 26# (only 6 reps)
Reverse curls: 5# (will go up to 8# nnext week)

I've been trying to declutter so I've started previewing some of my workouts. I looked at Kelly Coffey-Meyer's Ready, Step, Go. This one has horizontal and vertical step. She's more of an athletic stepper and choreography just seemed kind of boring to me. It was just okay and I have put this one on my trade list. Last night, I previewed Seasun Zieger's Straight Up Step. If you don't know of her, she is a very complex step instructor. I have two of her others - Rock, Steady Step and The Next Step. It's only 54 minutes. Seasun is great at cueing and even though her step is complex, her cueing makes it easy to pick up. I only planned on looking through it quickly but she quickly had me up on my feet and doing all the moves without the step. She moves at a fairly quick pace and her choreography is so much fun. Out of the three workouts, Straight Up Step is the easiest to pick up (but it is still complex.) There are three 64-count combos which she does quite a few times and then combines them together. This one's a keeper for me.

Deanie - I had the same problem as you (stay at weight with less reps or go lower and do all reps). At first, I was going to go down to a lower weight, but then again I think I'd rather stay at heavy weight and just try to do one more rep each time until I can do all reps with that weight. (This is what I did in P90X and it worked well for me.) After looking at your stats, you always make me push harder. Weather is really cooling down here to. Also only going up to 65. It was nice not having to put the A/C on and I was hardly sweating (although still working hard!)

Tracee - WTG on getting in your workout today:). I had trouble figuring out what weights to use since it was so long since I did S&H but I just started with Cathe and went up from there.

Gin - Glad you liked Step Works. I agree with your assessment. It took me a couple of times as well. I have B&G abs tomorrow. That will be my 4th time doing abs this week. I never do abs that much but hopefully it will make a difference. Did you ask the doc if the side effects will go away after a while or are you stuck being tired all the time?

Have a great day everyone.

Marcy

Good Afternoon!

Gin~ Step works is fun! I haven't done that in a looonng time. What made you pull that out? or did you just get it? I am going to be doing the music enrichment Dec. thru Feb. I will let you know how it goes :)

Tracee~ Good job on the workout today! Isn't it so much easier waking up to do weights?? :) Why is that?:) I think I will take your advise, and next week stay with the heavy weights and do less reps~ thanks!

Marcy~ You are so funny, I always feel you push ME!!:) When I was reaching for the 10#s for triceps today, I was thinking you were going to do the 12#s! Your triceps are so much stronger than mine!!I wish I could buy some of the dvds you have, some sound really good, but like Tracee, its not in the cards for me. I actually need some stuff (touch up highlights for one), but we just bought a new accoustic guitar for my DS today! Can't wait to see his face when he sees it!!! So I guess I will have to wait:+

Have a great day
Deanie

Hi Again!

Deanie - I actually need highlights myself, but the DVDs are actually cheaper for me than getting highlights! I guess I'll have to wait for my bonus and I'll be able to get a makeover! Hope your DS enjoys his guitar. So are you doing S&H again next week for PS? I'm going to stick with S&H for another week. I've actually enjoyed it. I think it goes smoother for me because she has more rest time and I have time to change weights, get water, stretch.

Marcy

Hi Again!

What do you guys suggest? Which is better for building strength? Fewer reps with heavier weights or stay with what Cathe is doing??
You girls make me feel like such a weakling! At least I can keep up with you with the biceps!

Marcy--If YOU think that Seasun Zieger's choreography if challenging, then remind me that I never want to try that one!! I don't go back to see the neurologist until next month, but I did ask the pharmacist and she said to give it 2-3 weeks and see if it gets better. I am completely exhausted!x( Maybe I need to start drinking coffee.

Deanie--Hope your ds enjoys the guitar. What a musical family! I got the vhs version of Step Works this summer through a video fitness trade and not tried it.

Gin:)

Marcy~ I am going to do S&H again next week. I am really enjoying it too!! I will do PS either in week 3 or 4 (maybe even both~ LOL)

Gin~ You are no weakling! You keep upping your weights which is great! For building strength, heavy weights and less reps(8-10). In S&H I would follow Cathe, since that's what she does. In PS she also only does a few reps (10) with heavy weights. Are you switching to PS next week?

Deanie

Hi Again!

Gin - I would say fewer reps with heavier weights. I think almost all of Cathe's workouts with the except of S&H are endurance. Not that I didn't build strength with GS but I think for real muscle building and strength, S&H is the best. Like I mentioned earlier, if you can't do all of Cathe's reps, I would stick with the heavier weight and keep trying to add a rep or two each time until you match her. Once you match her and feel comfortable, it's time to up the weight again. I made so many strength gains in P90X like this, so I think you should give it a try.

Re: Seasun Zieger - Yes, I think she's complex, but she's also very good at cueing. I actually caught on with this one faster than Rhythmic Step but I have to admit I started doing Seasun's workouts after I did Cathe's for over a year. She's actually more fun for me than Cathe because I really like the choreography. I love Cathe but she breaks things down a bit too much for me and her choreography is repeated a lot. I think the new workouts sound like they're going to have some new choreography and not as much breakdown. I hope I'm right.

I hope things get better for you with the meds. Is there any other medication you can try?

Marcy
