gallbladder surgery

Has anyone gone throught this? Did you bounce back fast?
How long before you could work out?
I'm on my 3rd attack in a year, so I think might have to do it this time.

thanks

I'm not going on personal experience but my friend just had her gallbladder out. From what I understand she had the laser surgery. She described it as 3 holes in her stomach. Her doctor told her she could start running after 2 weeks but I think she waited an additional week before she started running.

I had mine done at the beginning of Nov in 2005. It was laproscopic. I was in the hosp at about 6 am and home by 2pm. It wasn't bad at all. The 1st night was the worst, I went to lay down on my back to go to bed and everything kind of cramped up, but it passed pretty quick. By the 3rd day I looked preggers from all the air they blew into my insides to see and my shoulder hurt a bit from all the air (quite typical from what I understand) By day 3 I was stir crazy and begged my husband to get me out of the house. We went to the mall to look at Christmas trees, me in my baggy pregger lady sweat pants.

I felt pretty good after just 3 or 4 days, but I tired out quickly if I was doing anything. I think I have 2 or 3 small scars just under my right ribcage - I'm at work, can't count them now, and a scar in my belly button. The belly button scar was itchy and annoying for a while, bc it would rub against my pants button. I think I went back to the Dr in a couple days for an incision check, and then in 2 weeks to remove the upper level of stitches and get the ok to go back to work. I prob could have gone back to work sooner, but had to wait for the Dr appt.

I couldn't shower for 2 or 3 days, and I couldn't take a bath for a couple of weeks - no soaking the incisions. But all in all it was easy and went well. I really don't remember most of it

Nan

Most GB's are done laparoscopically and not too big a deal, as others have said. I think they have you sign off on that if necessary, they can go ahead with a more major incision which of course changes everything. it seldom happens but it's possible. everyone in DH's family has had their GB out except for him, and no one had any problem. just something to be aware of and maybe ask about. every place may not do things the same way.

I was back on my bicycle within a week, did 40 plus miles, no problem. Back riding my horse within 2 weeks of the surgery. Pretty much a breeze as far as the recovery. The incision at my belly button kind of pulled at first, when standing up straight, that's why cycling didn't bother it as you are bent over a bit. Hope all goes well for you.

I had mine removed on an emergency basis back in 1997. Because it wasn't too inflamed, they were able to do it laparoscopically. I was on my feet the same morning, home the next day and back to work in a week. It wasn't too bad.
