Happy Holidays!!

How do you handle the temptation to stay away from all the goodies during the holidays. Lets just say, I haven't been behaving these past fews days...:(
I have my days all planned out with healthy choices and then....BAM...I come into work and their are donuts, cookies, chocolate...you name it, its here!!! =-O

Any helpful tips of how you handle the holidays?
Thanks,

Jennifer

I have to admit hat I DO indulge, but I try to limit it to a reasonable amount of indulgence. It's all I can do at this time of year.

hi Jennifer,

This time of year I just try to go with the flow; I have a *little* bit of anything I want because if I deprive myself while everyone else is enjoying the festivities I'll end up frustrated and feeling sorry for myself and overeating on the other end. I know that once Jan 1 rolls around I'll be back to my 90/10 way of eating. Also I try to keep my exercise consistent and focused through the crazy holidays!

i haven't avoided treats but i keep portions in check. today i only had ONE cookie. if i am going to eat a treat i keep it to ONE a day then on xmas i throw all rules out the window for the day.i have also been drinking lots of water and tea. for some reason when i drink more water the less hungry i am between meals.

I take some home to eat on my pig-out day, but NEVER eat any at work. It's such a habit, it doesn't bother me.

Normally, I save it until free day. For the holidays, I give myself a little extra freedom. AFTER I eat my meal, I'll have a small piece or bite of something. Maybe a few times a day, but that's it.

What I did for Halloween and what I'm trying to do for this season is to tell myself I know what it tastes like. I.E. peanut butter cookies w/hershey kisses, snickers bars...etc. This way I don't need to "taste" everything but if there is something that I would like to try or is my favorite I will have it.

I think it's more about enjoying the "special" treats that you don't have the rest of the year. Donuts for example you can get any time. Peppermint bark...egg nog...those types of once a year treats.

Jeanette, I used that technique at my office party. They had every cheesecake there known to man and cheesecake is my weakness. I told myself that cheesecake is not going to disappear from the earth after the season. I could go to my local grocery store any time, buy a whole one and eat the entire thing if I wanted. This helped interestingly enough.

I am making a valiant effort at restraint this holiday season. So far I am perservering. I did have a treat today, just one M&M pillow. I am saving for Sat and Sun which are two eating feast days for me. That will be the best test.

I'm drinking lots of water too, which I always do, but it keeps me full. I am eating well balanced meals, three a day with two snacks so I don't get hungry.

It is hard to keep way from the onslaught of goodies this season but just remember portion control as someone said above.
