fruit

You ladies really seem to know what the heck your talking about and your pics are wonderful, so - I have another question. (do you get sick of all the questions??) :p

I eat a lot of fruit- sometimes three/four servings a day. If I feel hungry I try and grab fruit... Is that too much? I usually have fruit with breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and sometimes after dinner... Okay, yes I am an eater! I am trying to really define/tone. (I need to lose 10lbs also)

second question:

I have been trying to stay at 1200-1400 calories a day...but since starting cathe video's, I am ALWAYS hungry. How do you all stay so focused/motivated? I can almost see some muscle under that layer of fruit!! :9

1200 - 1400 is probably too low, especially if you're working out hard.

Why don't you try trading up one or two of your fruit servings for some veggies? Do you eat the fruit on its own as a snack? You might want to try adding some protein. Say, some pb with your apple. Or try some carrots with pb or low fat hummus.

I think the fruit is okay, as long as your meals are well-balanced with plenty of vitamin-rich foods. But like Shelley said, you may not be getting enough calories if you're really working out, so changing up your snacks may help that.

And remember, the recommendation is 4-6 servings of fruits and veggies. i wouldn't worry about it. I think you're doing great! (But as suggested, up your calories)

Fruits are excellent. Many of them, especially berries, have loads of antioxidants. Just be sure not to eat too many high glycemic fruits (like bananas) without balancing them by eating some protein and/or fat at the same time (a few nuts with a banana would be an example). High glycemic foods, when eaten alone, can cause a sharp increase in blood sugar, followed by a quick letdown. Some low glycemic fruits are berries, apples and pears.

I eat fruit right away in the morning, and something with a bit more substance if I'm working out right away (a banana instead of an apple)...POST workout I'll have something a bit heavier...

When you are talking about a sharp increase in blood sugar, followed by a quick letdown- does this make you store more fat or does it just bring on cravings? ( i eat banana's by themselves all the time)

The increase in blook sugar causes a subsequent increase in insulin, which can cause the body to store rather than burn fat.

However, there are times when high glycemic is o.k., like right after a tough workout (the body can use sugar to replenish glycogen stores--so it's also the best time to have a candy bar, if you have a hankering for one!).

Hi, I hope I would be of help,,, but soups are very fullfilling,,, I eat a lot of soups, is consider volume foods, because it contain water, soups with lots of veggies and a grain,,, I bet you can be creative,,, my own creation is veggies like carrots, celery shrered cabbage, string beans, I boiled them then add quinua, and then a can of crushed tomatoes,, spices like oregano, basil, pepper, garlic, and salt of course, I made a lot and keep some in the freezer and some is ready to eat, I like it as lunch, and before soup I grab an apple and an orange and eat them before the soup,, boy if I feel full at the end, I do running and believe me I know what being hungry is, I read this tip in a book about volume foods. also any hot cereal like oat meal cooked with water and add apples in it. it makes you full, good luck with that

Oh Gosh, I have at least 4 to 6 fruit servings a day. I love apples, blueberries, bananas, grapefruits, oranges and pineapples (it must be fresh pineapple;)).....I always have fresh fruit in the house. Sometimes I just love to snack on a cut up apples with walnuts, cinnamon and touch of lemon juice.....yum. Fruit really is so good for you so don't feel bad eating it:)Enjoy it with good health:)

The new government guidelines have upped it to eight or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day, but you have to remember than a banana counts as two servings, and a half a cup of cooked vegetables is a serving.
